No poker in Paris for NPL
By Sarah Polson
The National Poker League (NPL) was scheduled to host the Paris Open event this week to kick off its 2007 global tour. The event was to be filmed for a later broadcast as part of the NPL series.
The event, which was scheduled to begin Sunday and run through May 22, will possibly continue as a local tournament, but it will no longer be part of the NPL tour.
"We regret to inform our players, sponsors and television broadcast partners of our decision," said Sam Riddle, NPL president of media.
He said that the uncertainties associated with poker tournament and the French government led to the decision.
"Our focus remains committed to the global poker player community and we want to bring the very best poker experience to Europe as soon as possible," Riddle said. "We will soon announce a confirmed tournament."
The next stop scheduled for the NPL is the U.K. Open, which is supposed to take place at the Loose Cannon Club in London in August.
