Review
What does one get when pairing masterful poker theorist David Sklansky and renowned poker authority Ed Miller to write a No-Limit Hold'em theory and practice book? Well, the answer is nothing short of greatness. This book is for everyone in need of some guidance on their No-Limit Hold'em strategy.
In its opening pages, the book declares that it's not a complete beginner's book, it doesn't cover all possible angles or everyday basics, and it won't tell you how to play pocket aces before the flop. So what does the book teach? Pretty much everything a player needs to contemplate post flop situations. The book mixes and explains a variety of important factors such as pot size importance, hand values, check-call strategies, and induced bluffs.
No-Limit Hold'em - Theory and Practice is organized into well-planned chapters that mix the facts and figures with more philosophical and strategic examinations of the situations described. Every chapter ends with a summary of the most important lessons of the chapter and, on occasion, also includes an additional tidbit of useful and complimentary knowledge.
Sklansky and Miller are both veterans of the game and renowned poker authors, and as teachers of poker theory and philosophy, they're second to none. This book is a sharp blade for everyone wanting to battle on the felt and a must have for the serious poker player. If you don't already own a theory and practice book, this one should be your next purchase, and even if you do, you may be wise to double up.
The book consists of only two main parts - Fundamentals and Concept, and Weapons - but a great index makes it easy to find the particular situation of interest. In addition to the main parts there are these chapters: Introduction, About the Authors, About This Book, Some Notes About the Examples, Conclusion, The Sklansky - Chubukov Index, and Index.
The book totals 317 pages including blanks for notes.
