Review
N.R Virreal has played poker his entire life and successfully makes a living playing both cash games and tournament poker. Proficient in all forms of the game, he now puts his experience to work by giving readers a chance to improve their No-Limit Hold'em play.
This is the first book written by Virreal but hopefully not the last. Even though the book is far from perfect given the occasional grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, the value lies in the information it provides.
There is a lot of good information for the beginner player in The Book of Blunders. The volume - totaling only 54 pages - holds the most important information a novice No-Limit Hold'em player will ever need in a book that can literally be read during a long lunch break.
The book consists of five major chapters that group common poker mistakes together. Each chapter starts with an introduction and features examples of mistakes that occur at different points in the game. The examples are descriptive and show the action in the hand, but also explain the play and the decision-making process behind correct and incorrect moves.
The book is very easy to read and understand which is, presumably, the point of a beginner's book. There are no complicated mathematical formulas and no hard-to-understand poker lingo.
Even though Virreal is not a writer per se, he has written a very useful book for the huge number of beginner No-Limit Hold'em players. It is an easy and fast read and explains 15 of the most common and fundamental mistakes made by newcomers to No-limit Hold'em. The book is highly recommended to anyone who is learning poker and wants to skip the initial weeks or months of beginner mistakes.
However, for the seasoned pro or math buff, it is a complete waste of time; buy another book.
The book consists of five chapters:
- Giving Odds
- Showing Weakness
- Bad Bluffs
- Pay Attention
- Everything but the Cards
The Book of Blunders totals 54 pages including a couple of pages for notes and an introduction.
