Ivey eases the pain with $439k pot

It's good to be the king.

Going 0-for-55 at this year's WSOP in Vegas, Phil Ivey was down to his last four outs - WSOP Europe - to save him from a six-figure hit from his "win a bracelet" side bet.

 

With a deep run in the £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, it even looked for a second like he might just pull it off.

Busting out in sixth, however, and then busting again early in the Main Event, it just wasn't meant to be for Ivey this year, and it looks like he'll be forking out some big coin to his creditors - including Daniel Negreanu - very shortly.

Luckily for Ivey though, there's always perennial high-stakes online poker whipping boy lady marmelade. And the sweet virtual confines of Full Tilt Poker's $500/$1,000 No-Limit Hold'em RailHeaven table.

Like an act of benevolence from the poker gods, lady marmelade just happened to step up and give it a go at RailHeaven this week and, fortuitously for Ivey, he was quick enough to grab one of the limited seats.

Nothing brings out the pros like a rich whale, and four more of the game's toughest - Patrik Antonius,  Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond, Hac "trex313" Dang and Ariel "DaEvils" Schnellers - quickly swooped in to get a piece of the action, while a long waiting list immediately piled up.

True to form, ladymarmelade dumped off $300k in short order. Unfortunately for the wait list, and the rest of the table, most of it went directly into Ivey's coffers, with a classic aces-over-kings confrontation accounting for the bulk of it - and for the biggest pot this week.
