Nestola Tops Nicolas, Negreanu for LAPT Grand Final Title
German Daniele Nestola has won the PokerStars.net LAPT Grand Final and R$289,300 ($168,491) after a short but action-packed final table today in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Nestola, who more than doubled his career earnings with the win, came into the final table with the chip lead and held on for his first major tour win.
Nestola defeated Venezuelan Gasperino Nicolas heads-up after the two cut a deal for R$250,000 each, agreeing to play for an extra R$39,300 and the title.
Chilean Carlos Ibarra, who was involved in deal talks when they got down to three-handed play, ultimately ended up in third for the as-advertised R$148,840.
Negreanu Falls Short in Sixth
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu, by far the marquee name in the tournament and at the final table, came into the day fifth in chips but couldn’t make a run.
Finding himself short after a couple of hours of play, Negreanu shoved on Ibarra but came up on the wrong side of a call.
As Negreanu described his bustout hand on Twitter:
Out in 6th. Tough spot low on chips QT on T93 flop vs slowplayed AA. Instinct said fold but talked myself into a call since I was short.
Negreanu takes home R$48,730 ($28,380) for his trip to Brazil and became the first player to earn a final-table spot on the LAPT, APPT and EPT tours.
The final eight and their payouts:
1. Daniele Nestola -- R$289,300
2. Gasperino Nicolas -- R$250,000
3. Carlos Ibarra -- R$148,840
4. Felipe Morbiducci -- R$89,570
5. Jonathan Markovits -- R$64,540
6. Daniel Negreanu -- R$48,730
7. Vitor Torres -- R$35,560
8. Juan Gonzalez -- R$26,340
The conclusion of the LAPT Grand Final wraps up a very successful Season 4 for the PokerStars.net Latin America Poker Tour.
Dates and locations for LAPT Season 5 are yet to be announced.
