Poker icons Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth and Greg Merson have been chosen by Phil Ivey to represent Team Americas in the Caesars Cup.

Ivey, who is the Team Americas captain, announced his picks on Twitter earlier today.

Each five-player team will compete in the Caesars Cup event, which is scheduled to take place April 14 as part of WSOP APAC at the Crown Casino in Melbourne.

The team-based tournament will see The Americas take on Team Europe and Team Asia Pacific in a three-way battle.

Joe Hachem (Team Asia Pacific) and Sam Trickett (Team Europe) have yet to announce their teams.

Apparently Hachem is still taking suggestions for Team Asia Pacific through his Twitter account. Expect a fair amount of Australian talent to join Hachem in an attempt to win a Caesars Cup on their home turf.

Team America is the defending Caesars Cup champion as they defeated Europe 3-1 at WSOPE in Cannes in 2011.

The year before that it was Annette Obrestad’s European squad that took top honors. This is the first year there has been three teams in the Caesars Cup.
