Negreanu Debuts, Saout Crushes Day 2 of 2013 WSOP APAC
Big-name pros Daniel Negreanu and Greg Merson crumbled on Day 2 of the 2013 WSOP APAC while Antoine Saout charged to the top of the chip counts.
Negreanu, Merson, Saout, Kitty Kuo, Brandon Cantu and Joe Cheong were among the players who made their WSOP Asia-Pacific debut on Friday but all busted.
Saout meanwhile amassed a massive stack of 58,875, good enough for the chip lead.
A total of 337 players hit the felt on Day 1b of the $1,100 NLHE Accumulator, which eclipsed the 329 from Day 1a and brought the overall field up to 666 players.
As expected there were numerous double dippers with Day 1a chip leader Dan Kelly among the many who attempted to add even more to their stack.
Phil Hellmuth, Jonathan Karamalikis, Melanie Weisner, Jonathan Duhamel, Jackie Glazier, Rupert Elder, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Antonio Esfandiari all fired a second bullet with varying results.
A total of 49 of the original 337 entrants bagged chips at the end of play. You can view the complete chip counts here.
Here’s a look at the top 10 chip counts:
- 1. Antoine Saout – 59,875
- 2. Daniel Levy – 56,750
- 3. Martin Kozlov – 48,500
- 4. Thang Troung – 47,750
- 5. Hai Bo Chu – 41,800
- 6. Jackie Glazier – 39,350
- 7. Jonathan Karamalikis – 36,775
- 8. Melanie Weisner – 36,600
- 9. Nick Van Engalberg – 32,350
- 10. Samer Fakhoury – 28,775
Hellmuth, Duhamel Fail to Add to Day 1a Stacks
Hellmuth, who built a stack of 20,600 chips on Day 1a, returned for Day 1b in hopes of adding to his stack but ended up failing to win even a single pot.
The Poker Brat went out with a massive draw against pocket deuces but will try his luck again on Day 1c, the final starting flight of Event 1.
Hellmuth certainly had some company on the rail as Jonathan Duhamel, Jesse Sylvia, Antonio Esfandiari, Barry Greenstein, Brendon Rubie, Celina Lin, Mike Leah, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Chad Brown all busted on Day 1b.
In the end only three players managed to add chips to their Day 1a totals: Andrew Hinrichsen, Craig Blight and Ian Aldridge.
Day 1c of WSOP APAC Event 1 will begin at 9 p.m. ET tonight. It promises to be the biggest starting day and the field will have a decent shot at cracking 1,000 players.
