NBC Heads-Up Championship hits airwaves
Don Cheadle beat Phil Ivey. Shannon Elizabeth, of all people, went deep. And the champ only got to play because Phil Hellmuth didn't make it back from the U.K. The event: The National Heads-Up Poker Championship (NHUPC), and all the salacious details are set to air on NBC starting tomorrow.
It was an unusual one, to say the least.
The expected contenders went out early. Little went according to form.
But the single-elimination, 64-player NHUPC, played out at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas last month, was certainly a maelstrom of great poker and intriguing match-ups from beginning to end.
And now all the exciting action is ready for you to see it.
Episodes begin airing tomorrow on NBC, and will continue every Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (EDT) for the next seven weeks.
The first three weeks will be one-hour episodes with highlights from the Round of 64, which included great match-ups between Phil Ivey and Don Cheadle, Mike Matusow and Daniel Negreanu and Jamie Gold and Jennifer Tilly, among others.
Weeks 3-6 will be two-hour episodes, showing highlights from the Round of 32 up to the semi-finals, and the final show, May 20, will expand to three hours and include all the action down to the crowning of the champion.
The final two, and your 2007 National Heads-Up Champion? You'll have to tune in to see.
