Much ado about poker tourney turns to nothing
A weekend poker tournament in Nova Scotia that originally drew the attention of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and was forced to change venues at the last minute has ultimately attracted little heat.
About 40 people, the Chronicle Herald reports, turned out at Calico's Lounge in Truro, Nova Scotia, for the first round of the event put on by the Maritime Poker Tour.
A few more players were expected for the evening games, but few spectators were there to watch and there were no reports of police or gaming inspectors on the site.
Originally, it was to be a $10,000 event at the Super 8 Motel on the Millbrook First Nation, but the motel wanted the organizers to have permission from provincial gaming regulators.
They didn't happen, so the event was moved and the prize money was dropped, with the big prize becoming a seat at an upcoming tournament in Moncton.
Calico's owner Kevin Dawe was quoted in the Herald as saying "I'm not trying to break the law, just trying to bring people into the lounge."
