Sorel Mizzi is standing up for Stem Cell Research by hosting a charity tournament on Betfair Poker Friday to help the cause.

"There are so many worthy causes in the world like Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's," Mizzi said.

"Donating money to any of these charities would help find a cure for it, but funding Stem Cell Research could help find a cure for all of these devastating diseases."

Dubbed the Imper1um Charity Challenge, the $10 No-Limit Hold 'em tournament starts at 12 p.m. PT.

The winner will receive a live coaching session by a Betfair pro of their choice, including Mizzi, Annette Obrestad, John Tabatabai or Peter Jepsen.

Second- and third-place finishers will receive a hand-history review by the pro of their choice.

Mizzi said he understands the debate over Stem Cell Research but feels it is an important cause.

"I realize that Stem Cell Research is controversial, but Stem Cells are currently being used to cure some disease," he said.

"I hope that with the actions taken recently by Barack Obama and his reversing the ban on Stem Cell Research, we will all see the unlimited potential for this research and the benefits it will bring to the world."
