Mizrachi's On Top: WSOP $50k 8-game
The $50k Player's Championship saw the brothers Mizrachi soar to the top of the leaderboard overnight at the World Series Of Poker.
The Sunny Isles, Florida pair showed some strong poker genes taking on all-comers in the incredibly strong field to finish first and fifth respectively in the overnight chip counts.
Two-time WPT title holder Michael and 2008 WSOP Bracelet winner Robert are keen to turn this year's $50k into a family affair and the strong bond between the brothers appears to be spurring them on.
"It's great we're both still in the event," said Michael. "Hopefully we can get to heads-up together."
Michael was the overnight leader and despite a wobbly start on Day 4, he's back on track to potentially take down the $1,559,046 first prize.
"I started out at just over a million and a half, then went down to one mill, then back to 1.8 mill. It's been up-and-down so far," he said.
Michael has more than $6.7 million in tournament earnings, but winning would be a welcome boon, given he was recently handed an unexpected $400k tax bill.
"It would obviously be great to win here," he said. "Especially because it's such a strong field."
For some, facing off against your brother for a WSOP gold bracelet would elicit mixed emotions.
Michael feels it won't prove a problem.
"It's fine, we're both professional," he said. "We know each other's games so well."
Asked who has the edge between he and Robert, Michael was cagey but answered, "I guess our games in all the disciplines are a pretty similar standard. Maybe I have the edge in the No Limit."
An edge that might prove useful given the final table will revert from the 8-Game format to pure No Limit Hold'em.
"He is the older brother though," he added. "So maybe he has the edge after all."
