Minh received $1,060,000 in cash and a $25,000 seat in the WPT Finals Championship scheduled to take place in April 2006 at the Bellagio. He was also awarded a special gold and diamond bracelet made exclusively for the "Doyle Brunson" North American Poker Championship. Harrington received $620,730 for his second place finish, and third place winner Gavin Smith collected $327,610.
The WPT championship event was played out over the course of four days last week at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas, and was preceded by two weeks of preliminary events. The buy-in for the main event was $10,000 + $200. A total of 420 players competed for the $4,074,000 prize pool.
The Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship was created in honor of Brunson's achievements in poker along with his contributions to the industry and the game itself. The 1976 and 1977 World Series of Poker Main Event champion is credited with educating the poker masses through his highly acclaimed No-Limit educational book, "Super/System," published in 1978. He is considered one of the top professional gamblers to have ever lived in the United States. He is 72 years old.
