MGM Resorts to Offer Online Poker in New Jersey
MGM Resorts International is the latest player to enter the real-money online poker market in New Jersey.
MGM’s online efforts will operate under the PlayMGM brand with the software being supplied by GVC, parent company of bwin.party.
The Borgata online poker site currently operating in New Jersey is also running on the GVC platform. It makes sense since The Borgata is owned by MGM Resorts International.
The PlayMGM poker site is set to launch later this year in NJ. MGM also has a license in NV but for the time being the MGM’s online poker offerings will be NJ-only.
Historic Moment for MGM Resorts
In March the online casino industry in NJ hit $21.7m, which was a new record for the market.
"This is a historic moment for MGM Resorts to be launching real money online casino and poker under the MGM brand for the first time," said Corey Sanders, Chief Operating Officer of MGM Resorts.
"GVC has been a first-rate partner for us, and we are excited about the possibilities of extending that partnership as regulated markets open up in the U.S.”
The PlayMGM software will support both poker and casino with support for desktop and mobile versions. The poker client will include options for both tournaments and cash games.
The client will have the added bonus of integration with MGM’s M life Rewards Loyalty program. Members earn benefits from any of the 15 MGM Resort destinations in the US.
MGM has been a strong supporter of online poker in the past and pushed for legalization in New York and Michigan.
Meanwhile the Pennsylvania legislature is still in the process of deciding whether to allow legal online poker in the state. The issue of how the games will be taxed remains a sticking point.
