Memorial poker tournament to carry on Lidle's legacy

By Christopher Hunt

It's hard to forget the tragic death of New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle last year. His friends and family are now ensuring, with the inaugural Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament, something else isn't forgotten: his commitment to charitable giving.

The circumstances are still difficult to reconcile: Shortly after the Yankees' elimination from the playoffs, a strong wind blew the small plane carrying Yankee pitcher Lidle and flight instructor Tyler Stanger off-course and into the side of a New York City office building.

The plane fell 30 stories to the street below, killing both.

The inaugural Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament hopes to be a part of the healing process - bringing family, friends, colleagues, and admirers together to celebrating Lidle's legacy of love and charitable work.

The Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, Calif. will host the event Jan. 28, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that fulfills the dreams of children with terminal illnesses, will be the beneficiary.

The Ultimate Blackjack Tour has already signed on as a sponsor, and more are being actively recruited.

For more details on how you can become a sponsor, or participate in this event to celebrate Cory Lidle's life, visit www.corylidle.org.
