Review
Mastering No-Limit Hold'em by Russell Fox and Scott T. Harker aims to teach the reader the dynamics of No-Limit Hold'em. From start to finish, the book is well written and has a nice flow. It begins by explaining the basics of No-Limit Hold'em and the different aspects of buy-ins, table selection, and stack size. As it unfolds, the reader is introduced to odds and betting strategies, position, playing draws, the river and turn plays, and money management.
One theory explained in the pages of Mastering No-Limit Hold'em is exclusive to the book and its authors. Called "The Matrix Theory," it is laid out in a grid suggesting minimum starting hands and the moves to make based on position, hand strength, and table action.
The complete beginner will probably find this book a little to "fast" as it does not explain the complete basics of Hold'em poker. However, it is a perfect introduction to No-Limit for the Limit player as well as a good read for the beginner to intermediate No-Limit player wanting to refresh their knowledge and find some novel theories to experiment with at the green felt.
Mastering No-Limit Hold'em consists of eleven main chapters: (1) Introduction; (2) The Many Faces of No-Limit Hold'em; (3) Knowing Your Opponents; (4) Odds and Betting Strategies; (5) Position; (6) The Blinds; (7) Draws and the Play on the Flop; (8) The Turn, River and Bluffing; (9) The House Always Wins; (10) Managing Your Mind; and (11) Managing the Game. In addition to the eleven main sections, the appendixes, glossary, index, and "The Matrix Theory" make up the complete product.
In total, the book reads 212 pages, including glossary and index.
