Phil Gordon

By Erik Sylven

Phil Gordon couldn't hold on to his chip lead at the final table of the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) event in New Orleans. Instead, Lou Esposito from New York won the Bayou Poker Challenge, and walked away with $516,801 in prize money.

TV-personality Phil Gordon's dreams of winning a WSOPC title ended when he was knocked out in fourth place holding A-T against Clint Schafer's A-Q.

Schafer eventually went on to play heads-up against Lou Esposito. It turned out to be an extremely tough duel lasting for six hours.

The players traded the lead back and forth, but Esposito finally managed to finish his opponent off.

All the chips went into to the pot when the flop showed 8-6-4. Schafer flipped over 6-7 for a pair of sixes, but was dominated by Esposito who sat with K-6 for the same pair but with a better kicker.

Clint Schafer needed to catch a seven to make two pair or a five to make a straight but no help came. The runner-up got $266,736 for his efforts while winner Esposito received $516,801.
