London Cabbie Alan Mansbridge staged an incredible comeback to win the GUKPT Walsall title and £50,000 this weekend.

Mansbridge was the short stack heading into the final table but held on to win it all.

“I hadn’t booked a hotel – I wasn’t expecting to make it,” he said.

The £1,000 GUKPT Walsall main event drew 127 players to the industrial town in the West Midlands of England, including stars of the British poker scene like Dave Colclough, Paul Jackson, Praz Bansi and GUKPT sponsored pro Stuart Rutter.

Mansbridge's miraculous comeback began when he called down a Ryan Spittles three-barreled bluff holding just second pair on an ace-high board that also paired.

By the time it got heads-up, Mansbridge held the chip lead over Martin Holmes and cruised to victory.

“I wasn’t nervous," he said. "I hadn’t got enough chips to be nervous.”

The aforementioned Banzi finished 15th for £2,150 and currently leads the GUKPT Player of the Year race.

Next up for the GUKPT is the Brighton and Dundee Summer Series running May 11-15.

Here's how the final table finished up in Walsall:

1 Alan Mansbridge £50,000

5 Nick Hicks £10,320
