Kelly Does The Double! 2 months ago

It's all over!

Despite having seen his aces cracked, Kelly managed to turn his fortunes soon after this, going heads-up with Dunlop to a Q-J-8 board.

He led out and Dunlop moved all-in! Action!

Dunlop showed he had been on a move at the worst time with just A-3 for ace high, whilst Kelly had Tc 9c for the straight. Whoops!

His hand held, enabling him to double swiftly back into contention. Once again the stacks were about even.

Then came the crucial hand...

The pair went heads up to a Qd Th 7d flop and a series of bets and raises culminated in Dunlop shoving for his stack and Kelly calling.

Dunlop showed down the Jd 2d for the flush draw, but he was in dire shape as Kelly held Kd 8d for a bigger draw!

The diamond did arrive to complete both players' flushes but Kelly's king-high flush was the best hand, meaning a massive one million chip pot was shipped his way and Dunlop was left with a pittance.

Runner-up for the bracelet, Fabien Dunlop.

The Final Curtain

That hand left Dunlop with a paltry 18k in chips. He managed to double up once before moving in blind the next hand - Kelly calling him blind also.

9d 4h for Dunlop

Qd Jh for Kelly

His cards were live, but that was as good as it got for Dunlop as a decisive flop of Q-Q-T was revealed to leave him drawing dead.

The dealer dealt the obligatory turn and river, but the crowd were already wildly cheering for Kelly, who shook hands with his opponent, cracking out a broad grin as he received the warm congratulations of the crowd.

So well done to Fabien Dunlop, who finishes in second place and wins £84,512.

Better news for Kelly though, who wins £136,803, a WSOPE bracelet and goes to show his bracelet in the summer was no fluke.

A truly historic achievement, J.P. becomes the second man after Jesper Hougaard to win a bracelet on both sides of the Atlantic in the same year and at the same time, he becomes the first Englishman to collect a WSOPE bracelet.

Join us back shortly for some photos and quotes from the worthy winner, but for now, thanks for joining us on journey through what has proved an exciting tournament filled with twists and turns, capped off with a firebrand final.

Bullets Busted! 2 months ago

The start of heads-up saw J.P. take the lead despite starting with a chip deficit.

First of all, Dunlop raised it up to 30k, only for J.P. to 3-bet to 90k. Dunlop moved all-in and J.P. made the call with ace-ten.

It proved a great call as Dunlop could only table ace-five.

A ten on the flop seemed to seal the deal and the protagonists were about even.

Kelly Starts to Dominate

Kelly limps on the button and Dunlop checks his option.

The flop comes 4-3-3 and Dunlop leads for 25k. Call from Kelly.

The turn is a 9, Dunlop now bets 75k and again Kelly calls.

Come the rivered ten, Dunlop slowed down and checked, only for Kelly to lead out 120k.

Dunlop called only to be shown a very sneakily played pair of queens which were good!

Bullet Time!

Now the shortstack of the two, Dunlop raised it up from the button and Kelly flat-called from the big blind.

The flop fell 9-3-2 and that's when the fireworks started.

Kelly checked, Fabien bet out, but was check-raised to 150k.

Fabien moved all-in and Kelly snap-called, showing down the bullets! Fabian could only table second pair in 7-3 suited and it looked like the young Englishman was going to take the bracelet.

Then came the turn card, another three!

Fabian and his supporters breathed a huge sigh of relief as he hit one of his outs whilst a slightly disappointed Kelly cut the required chips out of his stack and passed them over to his opponent.

Fabian now holds a 2-1 chip lead once again!

Heads-Up For The Bracelet! 2 months ago

J.P. Kelly and Fabien Dunlop are the two men to make it to heads-up play, playing for the bracelet.

History beckons for Kelly, who will become only the second man to win a World Series bracelet on both sides of the Atlantic in the same year, following on from Jesper Hougaard, who did just that last year.

The pair got to heads up, courtesy of Fabien Dunlop, who saw Adnan Alshamah raise from the button for half his stack, before announcing all-in himself.

Alshamah was never folding and tabled Kh Qs, which was marginally behind the Ah 8h of Dunlop.

Although a king flopped to put Alshamah in the lead, his celebrations were quelled moments later as the Ac fell out to put Dunlop back in the lead, where he stayed on the blank 4h river.

Adnan Alshamah has busted out in 3rd place, picking up a healthy £55,468 for his finish.

The heads-up should prove an exciting contest. Stay with us as we detail all the thrills and spills of the contest - Fabien starting with a 2-1 chip advantage over Kelly.

Kelly Scalps Allen (4th) 2 months ago

Adnan Alshamah very nearly succumbed in 4th spot, getting in a war pre-flop with Fabien Dunlop, which resulted in him moving his chips into the middle with K-J - Dunlop making the call with pocket sixes.

Dunlop has won more than his fair share of flips and as the board blanked out A-2-7-Q, it looked like he was about to deliver yet another elimination and add to his huge stack.

Then the river came a ten to make Alshamah a straight and the crowd let out a series of "ooohs" at that dramatic card.

Alshamah gets the double and momentarily moves ahead of Kelly in second place.

Kelly soon turned that round though, calling short-stacked Richard Allen's shove with ace-four holding pocket nines.

The board of Qd 8c 3s 4s 2c proved no help for Allen, and J.P. moved back into second place.

Richard Allen is out in 4th, collecting £38,491 for his troubles.

During the break, Kelly revealed Dunlop has been making his life difficult in his bid to win his second bracelet of the year.

"He's got lots of chips and is playing well," he said.

"Having him in position on me makes it difficult to play, but I'm working out ways to take him down."

Roux Gunned Down By The Cowboys (5th) 2 months ago

There's been simply no let up to the breakneck pace today!

The meaty blinds obviously contribute to this, but when you get set-up hands such as this one, the players really have no choice but to go to war.

Anthony Roux only had around ten big blinds, so when it was folded to him on the button with pocket tens, he must have been loving it.

He moved all-in, only for the relatively quiet J.P. Kelly to wake up in the big blind with pocket kings.

Needing to spike to survive, Roux saw a board of As 9c 2s Qd 2d reel off, which was absolutely no use to him.

Anthony Roux bows out in 5th place, the Frenchman collecting £28,181 for his performance.

One more smattering of applause from the crowd and we find ourselves four-handed for the bracelet, Fabien Dunlop the overwhelming chip leader with close to a million chips and J.P. Kelly's 350k stack is the closest threat.

Suarez Feels The Fours...But Busts (6th) 2 months ago

The unrelentingly fast-pace of this contest just won't let up.

On the button with pocket fours, and the blinds a hefty 5k/10k, Neil Suarez was never going anywhere and moved all-in, only to see dangerman Fabien Dunlop also move all-in over the top from the small blind.

If he was hoping to find himself in a coin-flip versus ace-king, Suarez was to be disappointed as instead Fabien showed down pocket kings.

Facing elimination, Suarez saw the flop fall 8c 7c 8d. The turn came the 5h giving him a narrow shot at escaping his fate, but when the river blanked out as the Qd, the bulldozer momentum that Dunlop is building up continued.

Suarez shrugged his shoulders as if to say, "C'est la vie" before leaving the table to an appreciative round of applause.

Neil Suarez picks up £21,700 for his 6th place finish and as the players continue five-handed, it seems unlikely we will have to wait too long to crown the bracelet winner given the no-holds-barred action playing out at the felt!

Prince William De-throned (7th) 2 months ago

It's been a whirlwind start here at the Empire, three bustouts in the opening two levels suggesting the players are in no mood to hang about here today.

The latest elimination saw big-stacked Fabien Dunlop raise it up to 22k with pocket sevens, only for William Martin to push his chips in over the top - a re-raise of 100k.

Dunlop has shown a fearless quality throughout the latter stages of this tournament and he was in no mood to fold here, making the call and leaving Martin to turn up As Js.

Coin-flipping for his life, Martin saw a board of Kd 9h 4c 4s 3c peel off - no good to him, he saw his tournament life expire as he crashed out in 7th spot for £17,535.

Six-handed, it will be interesting to see if the fast pace slows or we see the aggressive nature of the play continue.

Thor Hammered! (Drexel - 8th) 2 months ago

Despite a minor increase to his stack, Thor Drexel was still in the firing line and when Adnan Alshamah raised under the gun.

Drexel took another shot, moving his stack into the middle - though it only just qualified as a call.

Anthony Roux also called, but scarpered quickly when the flop fell Ad Js Td and Alshamah moved all-in.

The other two players flipped their cards up and Alshamah's Ah Kc held dominion over the out-flopped pocket ladies of a resigned looking Drexel.

The turn was the Jd, giving Thor several more flush and full house outs to escape his fate, but when the river fell a lowly 3c, there was no escape, Drexel exiting at the hands of Alshamah in 8th place, picking up £14,835 for his finish.

Well played sir.

Tomlin Busts! (9th) 2 months ago

The final is in full swing and it didn't take very long for the fireworks to ignite.

With the announcer's words of "shuffle up and deal" still echoing in the background, three players went all-in in the same hand!

Some drama to open the final.

Two Slick For Tomlin

It all started with shortstack James Tomlin moving all-in, only for William Martin to isolate by re-raising all-in, followed by Thor Drexel also making the call for his tournament life!

Martin had the other two players covered, so if he scooped, he would deliver an early double-knockout.

When the cards were turned over the Ac 7s in Tomlin's hand looked destined to see him be the first man to hit the rail as both Martin and Drexel flipped up dominating big slicks.

Tomlin looked resigned to elimination, but a king-high and crucially all club flop gave him many outs to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

He pumped his fist at the flop, seeing the fact it gave him a chance to make the nut flush and escape his precarious position.

Sadly for him, moments later it was all lost as the turn and river blanked and we had our first elimination, James Tomlin busted in 9th spot, collecting £13,115 for his finish.

Drexel and Martin chopped up his stack and play continued.
