Day 2 Live Updates
Amazing Dario Alioto wins WSOPE Event 2!
3 years agoAnother WSOPE bracelet awarded to a European!
Dario Alioto was the best player at today's final table and he's earned the glory of winning Europe's biggest Pot-Limit Omaha tournament. He busted most of the players at the final table and even got the best of one of poker's elite - Tony G.
In the last hand of the night a very short-stacked Istvan Novak pushed all-in pre-flop and Alioto made the call. The cards?
Alioto: A♦ K♠ 7♣ 5♣
Novak: A♣ Q♣ 3♣ 9♦
The flop came 10♣ 7♦ 6♠ and Alioto had himself a pair. The turn came 5♠ and Alioto upgraded to two pair. Novak was drawing dead and Alioto had finally sealed the deal.
Novak will still earn £137,280 for his efforts while Alioto will receive the best prize of them all - £234,390 and a shiny new gold bracelet.
Congratulations to the 2007 WSOPE Event 2 winner Dario Alioto!
Tony G Busts Third (£94,380)
3 years agoWe are finally, emphasis on "finally," down to heads-up play. Alioto raised $120,00 from the small blind and Tony G made the call. The flop came Q♥ 7♥ 4♦ and Alionto raised to $230,000 but Tony G re-raised all-in. Alioto made the call and the players showed their cards.
Tony G: Q♣ 9♦ 8♥ 3♠
Alioto: K♥ 7♣ 6♠ 5♥
Tony G was ahead but Alioto had an enormous amount of outs. Could Tony G dodge them all? Nope. The turn came 9♣ and the river was 8♦. Surprisingly Tony G is out in third!
Tony G Crippled; Doubles
3 years agoThis final table has taken a dramatic turn as Istvan Novak's passion for folding may have paid off. Tony G was just crippled after all three players saw a flop come K♣ 3♥ 2♥. The G bet out, Novak folded, and Dario Alioto raised $400,000. Guoga made the call and the turn was the 8♦, prompting an open-shove from the G and a call from Alioto. G shows K♥ Q♦ T♣ 2♦ while the young Italian has A♥ K♦ 4♥ 2♣. The river is the 6♥ and Alioto makes his flush to double through Tony G, knocking the Mouth from Down Under down to his last $250,000.
Guoga has since doubled-up, getting all-in on a flop of T♥ 6♥ 4♦ with Alioto and showing down T♣ 9♥ 8♦ 6♦ to Alioto's A♦ T♠ 5♠ 2♦. The board finishes out 7♠ 8♥ and Guoga hits his "miracle seven" to double through Alioto and stay alive.
Updated chip counts see Alioto with about $2 million, Novak with $700,000, and Guoga with $500,000.
Novak Triples and Then Doubles
3 years agoIstvan Novak is on fire. He just tripled against Tony G and Dario Alioto and then doubled through Tony G.
In the first hand Tony G raised from the button and Novak, along with Alioto, called. Alioto and Tony G checked all the way down and the board looked like this:
9♦ 10♦ 3♠ A♣ 10♠
Novak had aces in the pocket and filled up taking down the pot.
In the second hand Novak got all-in against Tony G pre-flop and flipped over Q♥ 10♦ 9♥ 6♣. Tony G showed A♠ K♥ 6♠ 2♥.
The flop went K♠ J♥ 4♦ which meant Novak had made a straight. The dealer turned 9♣ which didn't help Tony and finally the river was a diamond which didn't complete Tony's flush draw.
Novak is chipping up!
We're now on a quick break. Chip counts have Tony G at $1.5 million, Dario Alioto at $1.3 million and Istvan Novak at $400,000. Obviously chipping up is a relative term.
Callaghan Cancelled
3 years agoWe're on hand 115 of this final table and Tony G is absolutely dominating. The street person is showing down his hands every time he wins a pot, whether he's holding the nuts or the naughts. Meanwhile, with the G holding a commanding $1.3 million in chips, David Callaghan is forced to make a move, shipping the last of his $300,000 into the middle pre-flop in a hand with Dario Alioto.
The young Italian shows A♣ J♠ 6♣ 5♠ while the young Irishman shows K♥ K♠ 8♦ 5♣. The board comes A♦ T♥ T♠ 3♥ Q♣ and David Callaghan has been eliminated in fourth place. He'll take home £65,520 for his time.
The players are now on a 15-minute break, with Tony G holding a slight chip lead over Dario Alioto, $1.42 million to $1.36 million. Istvan Novak is a distant third with $250,000 to his name.
Novak Doubles Through Alioto
3 years agoTony G Lays a Bad Beat on Istvan Novak
3 years agoTony G is running well and he just doubled up through Istvan Novak. Tony G managed to get all his chips in pre-flop versus Novak. Perhaps regretting the push Tony G flipped over A♦ 6♦ K♠ 6♣ to Novak's A♣ A♠ Q♣ 3♥.
The flop came K♦ 9♥ 5♠ and Novak was still in the lead with aces. The turn brought the Q♦ and Novak now had two pair and it looked like Tony G was heading back to the streets. Sure enough the river brought the 4♦ completing Tony G's flush.
Istvan is shaking his head and even the brash Tony G had to apologize for the bad beat.
Arnault Assassinated
3 years agoFreshly Baked Chip Count
3 years agoHey guys and gals. Here's a look at how the players are doing chips-wise courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com:
| Dario Alioto | $1,540,000 |
| David Callaghan | $640,000 |
| Tony G | $435,000 |
| Istvan Novak | $380,000 |
| Antoine Arnault | $165,000 |
The Fall of Farnood
3 years agoSherkhan Farnood came into the final table as chip leader but was only able to translate that advantage into a sixth-place finish. Farnood relinquished the chip lead to Dario Alioto during the last level and then relinquished his claim to a seat at the table shortly thereafter.
On his final hand, Farnood called Alioto's $32,000 raise out of the big blind and saw the flop come J♦ 6♣ 2♣. He led out for $50,000 and saw Alioto flat-call to see the turn card, which was the 3♦. Again Farnood fired, betting out $188,000. Alioto tanked for a couple of minutes but eventually made the call, and the river was the 7♠. Now Farnood moved all-in and after a bit of thought Alioto made the call, showing a pair of aces while Farnood could only muster a second jack for a worse pair, sending the Man from Afghanistan home with naught but the £38,220 consolation prize.
Lopponen Lopped Off
3 years agoTony G Doubles Up
3 years agoAfter falling way down in chips Tony G is fighting his way back. He just doubled up in a hand against Sherkhan Farnood.
Tony G raised to $55,000 pre-flop and Farnood re-raised $125,000 more. The G shoved and Farnood called. The players flipped over their cards.
Tony G: A♠ A♣ 7♦ 6♥
Farnood: K♣ K♥ 10♠ 9♣
The board went J♦ 3♣ 2♦ 4♥ 9♦. Tony G's aces survived and he is now up to nearly $500,000.
Bloch Buster'd
3 years agoRazaghi Miyagi'd
3 years agoAfter a delay in the recommencement of play following WSOPE technical difficulties and Jack Effel's earnest and enlightening player introductions, hand-for-hand play gets underway and after six hands we've had our first elimination.
Mohamad Hossein "Joseph" Razaghi joins Andy Bloch and David Callaghan in an unraised pot and sees the flop come K♣ 9♠ 8♣. Callaghan bets out $25,000 and Razaghi makes the call while Bloch folds out. The turn is the 2♣ and Callaghan checks to Razaghi, who shoves all-in for $74,000. Callaghan thinks for a good few minutes before making the call and showing A♣ J♣ 7♣ 5♦ to Razaghi's J♥ J♦ 9♥ 8♣.
Razaghi is left drawing for an eight or a nine for a full house but the river is the Q♦ and he is out in ninth place, earning £16,380 and the consolation that he stayed alive longer than Rafi Amit, who is without a doubt the worst poker player we have ever seen. Hey Rafi - we hear Brandi Hawbaker is giving Razz lessons...
Back from Break - Final Table On!
3 years agoPlayers are back from break and in their seats. The cards are in the air and everyone is wondering who will claim the second WSOPE bracelet in history. Here's a look at the chip counts heading into the finale:
| Sherkhan Farnood | $651,000 |
| Istvan Novak | $480,000 |
| Dario Alioto | $397,000 |
| Antoine Arnault | $391,000 |
| Andy Bloch | $376,000 |
| Tony G | $281,000 |
| David Callaghan | $271,000 |
| Sampo Lopponen | $247,000 |
| Mohamad Hossein Razaghi | $153,000 |
And in other news - Rafi Amit sucks!
At least that's what the recently busted player is going around telling everybody at the Empire Casino.
"I'm a smart person until I sit down at the poker table," he said.
Even Jon Friedberg got in on the Rafi bashing.
"Rafi was one of the better Pot-Limit Omaha players in the world... until today," he quipped.
Update Summary 4 for PLO, Day 2
3 years agoHey, hey poker fans. We've finally gotten down to a final table of nine. Players will now go on their dinner break but join us in an hour and a half as we bring you the thrilling conclusion of WSOPE Event 2 PLO.
Uproar in the Empire
There is general uproar in the poker room and the mood is suddenly tense. Sherkhan Farnood just received a five-hand penalty for collusion. Farnood was involved in a three-way hand with Jon Persson and Istvan Novak. Both Persson and Novak checked on the river so Farnood did as well... but then he flipped over the nut flush. There was a large debate as to whether that should be considered collusion. Tony G seemed to think so but Farnood claimed he didn't know what he had.
The hand hurt Persson more than anybody else and he is now down to a single chip.
Roland Goes to the Wolves
Roland De Wolfe was short-stacked and managed to get all-in against Tony G after a flop of 3♦ 4♠ Q♥. The loud-mouthed Tony G, who was very quiet and respectful during this particular hand, hit two pair and knocked De Wolfe out of the game. De Wolfe had to settle for 11th place and £11,700.
Lawson Lambasted
Ted Lawson has been eliminated after being crippled by Andy Bloch when neither of his straight and flush draws hit. A few hands later the Cheeseburger was entirely consumed, finishing up in 12th place and taking home £11,700 for condiments.

Persson Non Grata
After seeing his stack virtually wiped out in the controversial Farnood collusion hand, Jon Persson managed to quadruple up from his single-chip stack when he made quad aces, bringing his total to a whopping four chips. The Human could not make it stick, though, busting out soon after in 10th place for £11,700.
Update Summary 3 for PLO, Day 2
3 years agoHere is the latest from the post-bubble era of WSOPE Event #2, £5,000 Pot-Limit Omahavaganza:
Forrest Felled!
Ted Forrest commits all but his last $10,000 to the middle in a pot with Antoine Arnault and David Callaghan and then lays his hand down in the face of aces for Callaghan and kings for Arnault. Callaghan winds up doubling-up and Forrest is crippled. He busts out on the next hand and earns £8,580 for his 17th-place finish.
Rafi Taffy'd!
Rafi Amit has been eliminated in 16th place after picking the wrong spot to put a move on a wealthier opponent. Amit is now loitering in the casino area with an attractive masseuse, a beer, and his £8,580 payout, and doesn't look entirely unhappy to be in the situation he's in.

Housden Re-Mortgaged!
Rupert Housden gets all-in pre-flop with Q-Q-x-x and is called by Dario Alioto, who turns up K-Q-10-J single-suited. The flop brings a king and Housden can't get any love on either turn or river, thus consigning himself to the rail. Rupert finishes in 15th place and will receive £10,140 to share with Bill Badger, Algy Pug and Pong Ping. Oh, and perhaps buy a new pair of trousers.
Hagen-Dazsed!
Andreas Hagen flops a set of fours and doubles up Istvan Novak, who has had the good fortune to flop a set of queens. Sucks when that happens. The hand cripples Hagen, who is left with one big blind and is all-in on the first hand back from break. Sherkhan Farnood calls and flops a set of queens to bust Hagen. The Norwegian ends up in 14th place and will take home £10,140.

Duthie Parked!
EPT founder John Duthie gets all-in pre-flop with K♠ K♣ J♣ 8♠ and is called by Sherkahn Farnood, who shows A♥ A♦ Q♠ 6♣. The board comes T♥ 3♥ 2♥ 6♣ 7♦ and Farnood's aces hold, giving him the pot and sending Duthie to the rail in 13th place. The former movie director will take home £10,140 for his efforts. Cut!

Update Summary 2 for PLO, Day 2
3 years agoHere is the latest action from the floor of the Empire Casino:
Bubblicious!
The bubble has burst and all of the remaining players are guaranteed at least £8,580 for their efforts. The unlucky bubble boy was Will Hayden, who got all-in on a K-Q-6 rainbow flop and was called by Andy Bloch while Dario Alioto got out of the way. Hayden showed K-J-J-9 for two pair while Bloch turned up A-K-7-4 and would need to improve. He did just that on the turn, which was an ace, and after the river card was a four Hayden was eliminated.
Vallo Vanquished!
Having barely limped into the money with a stack of $14,000, Martin Vallo gets all-in and is called by Sampo Lamponen, who turns up K♠ J♠ T♠ 6♥ to Vallo's K♣ 9♥ 8♠ 7♦. The board comes A-K-8-10-9 and Lamponen makes a better two pair to send Vallo to the rail, ousted in 18th place for £8,580.
Eliminated Before the Money!

Erik Seidel and David "Devilfish" Ulliott are among those to bubble from this event.
The Richest Railbird?!
Alan Smurfit is on the rail of this event (as are Michael Mizrachi and Phillippe Rouas). He calls to Roland de Wolfe. "You still in this thing? How much are they paying for first?"
De Wolfe ambles over, a sly grin on his face. "Less than you'll make in interest this afternoon."
Smurfit glances at the clock, sees first prize is £234,490, and cackles. "I wish it were true."
He reveals that he'll be playing a satellite for the Main Event even though he has already bought-in. Apparently even billionaires like to save a bit of money here and there.

Plans!
The tournament organizers have decided to play down to the final table or 8:30 p.m., whichever happens first, before breaking for dinner. So there.

Update Summary 1 for PLO, Day 2
3 years agoHere is the latest and greatest from the Empire Casino in London:
Jefferson Washington'd!
We're down to three tables after Noah Jefferson was eliminated in the sickest of beats. He got his (admittedly short) stack in the middle in a blind-versus-blind situation with Jon Persson, showing A-A-x-x to Persson's Q-Q-x-x. The flop came 8-6-6 but the turn was a queen. The river was the case queen and *QUADS*, Jefferson is eliminated.
Adams Madison'd!
In an even sicker beat than Noah Jefferson's elimination, fellow Founding Father Brandon Adams has been busticated following a hand with Rafi Amit that saw both players get the money in the middle on an A-Q-8, Adams with A-10-8-7 and Amit with Q-Q-x-x. The turn is an ace, giving Adams the better set, but the river is the case queen and Amit makes quads to send Adams to the rail.
Also Eliminated!
Eli Elezra, Phil Gordon and Nenad Medic have all been eliminated, although none of them at the hands of an opponent's rivered quad queens.
Kwickfish in Da Haus!
Paul Wasicka has been spotted on the rail. We presume he'll be playing in the Main Event either tomorrow or the day after.
