Day 3 Live Updates
Tournament Over!
3 years agoDavid "Diggy" Dao limps in and William "Kai" Landry checks his option. The flop comes K♦ T♦ 4♣ and both players check. The turn is the A♦ and Landry leads out for $50,000.
Dao raises to $150,000 and after barely a pause, Landry moves all-in, putting Dao to a decision for his tournament life.
Dao ruminates for a minute or so before making the call, turning up a mystifying J♦ 7♠ for the royal flush draw against Landry's Q♥ J♠ for the broadway straight.
Dao needs any diamond to double up and stay alive, but the river card is the 6♠ and Landry's hand holds up, giving the Mississippi native the pot and the tournament title in one fell swoop!
For the win, Landry earns $183,974, as well as that coveted WSOP Circuit ring and an entry into this summer's World Series of Poker Main Event.
For his second-place finish, Dao earns $117,744 for his time.
Congrats to both players and to PokerListings.com, who can finally leave Tunica.
Landry Doubles
3 years agoWilliam "Kai" Landry and David "Diggy" Dao see a flop come 6♦ 6♠ 2♥ and Dao puts Landry all-in for his last $1,023,000. Landry instantly calls, turning up Q♥ Q♦ to counter Dao's pair of fours.
Dao needs to hit a four to win the tournament, but the turn is the 2♠ and the river the J♥ and the queens hold, doubling Landry up and knocking Dao down to his last $800,000.
Justice Does Not Prevail
3 years agoMatt Stout raises on the button and William "Kai" Landry moves all-in from the small blind for $708,000. David Dao gets out of the way but Stout quickly calls, turning up A♥ Q♦ and finding he's racing against Landry's 7♥ 7♦.
The flop comes 9♠ 6♠ 4♠ and that helps neither player. The turn is the 5♥.
"I deserve the A♣ right now, don't I?" Stout asks Landry, who nods in agreement.
The river card, however, is the 7♣, giving Landry the set and the hand. After a brief pause to count down the chips, it's revealed that Landry barely has Stout covered and the PokerListings blogger and Full Tilt red pro is out of the tournament. Stout earns $73,590 for his time.
We're now heads-up between David "Diggy" Dao and William "Kai" Landry, with both players about even in chips.
Landry Stays Alive
3 years agoKai Landry open-shoves all-in for his last $339,000 on the button and Matt Stout quickly calls from the big blind, turning up K♥ Q♥ and finding himself in good shape to bust Landry, who has K♠ 9♣.
The flop comes A♦ J♣ 8♣, helping nobody, but the 2♣ on the turn gives Stout bocoo ways to lose the hand. The river is one of them, bringing the K♣ to give Landry the club flush and double him back up to about $700,000.
Off the Charts!
3 years agoPlayers have just taken a 15-minute break and return to play with the tournament having exceeded the bounds of the published structure sheet.
At Matt Stout's urging, tournament director Jimmy Somerfeld added a $12k/$24k level at the start of the day so that's where we'll begin. The new level probably benefits Stout more than anyone else, as Dao is a maniac and Landy doesn't have nearly the same experience in tournament play as Stout.
Landry Implodes!!!
3 years agoWilliam "Kai" Landry limps in from the button before David "Diggy" Dao pops it to $110,000 from the small blind. Matt Stout gets out of the way and Landry makes the call.
The flop comes T♦ 9♠ 2♥ and Dao immediately moves all-in, committing his last $719,000 to the middle.
Landry ruminates for a moment before announcing he's making the call, turning up a head-scratcher in 4♥ 4♣ for the underpair. Dao has K♠ T♣ for top pair and is in great shape to double up.
The turn is the A♦ and Landry needs to hit a two-outer to bust Dao, but the river is the Q♥ and Dao survives, doubling through Landry and taking down a massive pot.
Huge Pot for Stout
3 years agoMatt Stout raises to $55,000 on the button and William "Kai" Landry makes the call in the small blind. David Dao folds in the big blind and we're heads-up going to the flop.
Said flop comes 9♣ 8♥ 3♣ and Landry checks to the Full Tilt pro, who bets out $80,000. Landry raises to $300,000 and the action is back on Stout, who takes a moment to mull things over.
"I go all-in," he announces, putting the onus squarely on Landry. It's another $376,000 for Kai to make the call, but despite the favorable odds Landry opts to lay it down, shipping a substantial pot to the kid.
Landry and Stout are now even in chips.
Stout Rebuilds
3 years agoLeft the tournament short stack after Leonard Eidson's elimination, Matt Stout has clawed his way back into second place on the chip leaderboard.
Stout and chip leader William "Kai" Landry saw a flop come A♣ 9♠ 2♣ after Stout raised to $50k preflop and Landry made the call. On the flop, both players checked and the turn was the K♠.
Now Stout led out for $80,000 and Landry made the call. The river was the 6♦ and Stout fired $120,000 into the middle. Landry laid it down and the PokerListings blogger took down the pot.
Stout is now on just under $1 million, while Landry has about $1.5 million and Diggy Dao $750,000.
Eidson Zwei'd (4th)
3 years agoShortly after being crippled by Kai Landry, Leonard Eidson gets all-in for his last $117,000 over the top of a Landry raise and a Matt Stout flat-call. Both Landry and Stout make the call and Stout checks in the dark as the flop comes J♦ 8♠ 6♣.
Landry checks behind and the turn is the T♣. Both players check and they check again on the river, which is the T♠.
Eidson announces "ace-high," and shows A-7. It's no good, as Landry has 6♥ 5♥ for a pair of sixes and, after Stout mucks, takes down the pot.
Eidson is thus eliminated in fourth place, earning $61,816 and reducing the field to the final three.
Eidson Crippled!
3 years agoLeonard Eidson raises to $50,000 on the button and Wiliam "Kai" Landry makes it $170,000 to go from the small blind. Diggy Dao folds his big blind but Eidson makes the call and the flop comes Q♣ 9♦ 5♠.
Landry checks to Eidson, who moves all-in and sees his rival beat him to the pot, turning up K♥ Q♥ to Eidson's Q♦ T♦.
The turn is the A♠ and the river the J♦ and the king plays, giving Landry the pot and doubling him up to about $850,000 while leaving Eidson with only $120,000 with which to play.
Diggy Dao Diddy Mao!
3 years agoMatt Stout and David Dao see a flop come 7♣ 5♥ 2♥ and Dao checks to Stout, who bets out $70,000. Dao moves all-in over the top and Stout snap-calls, turning up A♥ Q♥ for the heart-flush draw against Dao's 6♦ 2♦ for bottom pair.
Stout will need to improve to send his nemesis to the rail, but the turn is the 3♠ and the river the 5♣, giving Dao the pot with fives-up and doubling up to take over the chip lead with $950,000 to his name. Stout's on $850,000 as play moves forward.
"Well played, sir," says Stout, the sarcasm dripping off his tongue. Allinat420 is looking more and more frustrated with his hyperaggressive opponent and is clearly itching to take him out.
Landry Doubles Again
3 years agoAs he is wont to do, David Dao open-shoves all-in from under the gun and William "Kai" Landry snaps him off in the big blind, turning up J♠ J♣ to find himself racing against Diggy Dao's A♣ K♦.
The board comes 9♥ 8♠ 2♠ Q♣ 6♦ and the jacks hold, giving Landry the pot and doubling him through Dao to bring his stack up to the $800k range.
Good Fold by Eidson
3 years agoByrum Bay'd (5th)
3 years agoJeremy Byrum open-shoves for his last $200k and is called by Leonard Eidson, who turns up Q♥ Q♣ to counter Byrum's K♥ J♣.
In a perverse twist of fate, Byrum, who has just had his queens cracked by K-x, will now be looking to perform the same bad-beatery on Eidson in order to stay alive.
But though the flop comes J♦ 9♣ 4♥, the turn and river brick out (A♥ 6♦) and the queens hold, sending Byrum packing in fifth place for a $51,513 payout.
Landry Doubles
3 years agoWilliam "Kai" Landry open-shoves his last $166,000 in the middle and is called by Jeremy Byrum, who turns up Q♠ Q♦ and has Landry's K♠ 3♥ on the ropes.
The dealer, however, has other inclinations and after the flop comes 9♣ 8♥ 6♦, the turn is the K♦ to give Landry the lead and leave Byrum drawing to two outs to bust his rival. The river card, however, is the 2♣, doubling up Landry and taking a big bite out of Byrum's stack.
Leah Remini'd (6th)
3 years agoMike Leah min-raises in early position and Matt Stout flat-calls from his left. The two are joined in the pot by two other players and the flop comes 7♣ 5♥ 2♥.
Action checks to Leah, who open-shoves all-in, and Stout insta-calls. Everyone else folds out and Leah turns up Q♣ Q♥, only to find he's in bad shape against Allinat420's A♦ A♥.
"Queen ball one time," Stout hollers, but the turn is the 9♠ and Leah remains behind. Stout reiterates his desire for a queen on the river, but it's the K♠ that falls and Leah is eliminated in sixth place, earning $44,154 for his time.
New Level
3 years agoThe cards are back in the air and the blinds are moving on up in Tunica. As you can see, David "Diggy" Dao is now challenging for the chip lead, playing his unusual brand of "moving all-in every hand" poker and taking a big pot from leader Matt Stout just before the break with a flopped set of sevens against Stout's top pair, jacks.
The hand saw Stout and Leonard Eidson call a raise from Dao while in the small and big blind, respectively, with Eidson dropping out after Dao bet a J-8-7 (two hearts) flop. Stout called and both players checked the Q♠ turn.
The river was the 5♠ and Stout led out for $130,000, only to see Dao make the call and show down his set for the win.
Diggy Dao Diggy Doubles Again!
3 years agoDavid Dao open-shoves all-in for $312,000 from the small blind and Jeremy Byrum insta-calls in the big, turning up A♦ T♣ and having Dao's A♠ 7♦ dominated. That doesn't matter, though, as the flop comes 7♥ 3♦ 2♦ and Diggy takes the lead.
The turn is the 6♠ and Dao needs to fade a ten to stay alive. The river is the 7♣ and Dao makes trips, good enough to double once more and build his stack up into the $630,000 range.
"And you got it all by playing good," Matt Stout tells Dao while shaking his head in disgust.
Dao Stays Alive
3 years agoLeonard Eidson raises to $31,000 and David "Diggy" Dao moves all-in for $106,000 over the top. Action folds back to Eidson, who makes the call and turns up A-8, only to find himself dominated by Diggy's A-Q.
The board runs A-6-4-3-9 and the queen plays, doubling up Dao and keeping play six-handed.
Byrum Dao-bles!
3 years agoJeremy Byrum limps in from under the gun and is joined in the pot by Matt Stout and Kai Landry before David "Diggy" Dao checks his option in the big blind. The flop comes K♠ T♥ 6♥ and action checks around.
The turn is the 9♣ and the action checks to Byrum, who leads out for $30,000. Stout makes it $80,000 to go and Landry gets out the way before Dao ships over the top. Byrum calls all-in for $317,000 and Stout sighs and lays down 8-7 for the straight.
It's a good lay-down, as Byrum has Q♦ J♠ for the neezies, but Dao can only muster T♦ 9♥ for two pair and Stout is pretty open about wanting to bust Dao.
Instead, after the river is the 4♥, Byrum takes the pot to double through Dao and knock Diggy's stack down to about $110,000.
Stout Builds Stack
3 years agoStout again fires, this time making it $105,000 to go. Dao quickly calls and the river is the T♦. This time, Stout checks and Dao checks behind. Stout turns up J♠ T♣ for tens-up and Dao angrily mucks, conceding a large pot to the boy.
Runner-Runner Saves Landry
3 years agoMatt Stout raises to $20,000 and the action folds to William "Kai" Landry, who moves all-in over the top for $121,000 in total. Stout insta-calls and turns up A♣ 7♠ and his read is good as Landry has K♣ J♠ and is behind.
The flop comes A♠ 5♦ 3♠ and Stout takes a commanding lead in the hand, leaving Landry looking for runners to stay alive. The turn fulfills its part of the bargain, bringing the J♦, and the river comes through as well with the J♥ to give Landry trips and double up him to $265,000.
Boat for Byrum
3 years agoJeremy Byrum raises to $17,000 and Leonard Eidson makes the call. The flop comes A-K-6, all clubs, and both players check. The turn is the A♦ and Eidson checks to Byrum, who bets $40,000 and is called.
The river is the 6♣ and Eidson check-calls again, this time for $50,000, only to muck in disgust when Byrum shows him A-9 for the full house. Byrum takes the pot.
Hyde Seek'd (7th)
3 years agoMike Leah min-raises to $16,000 and Glynn Hyde moves all-in over the top for another $45,000 from the big blind. Leah thinks for about 30 seconds before deciding he's priced in and makes the call, turning up 6♥ 5♥ to Hyde's K♠ J♦.
The flop comes 8♦ 5♣ 4♦ and Leah flops a pair of fives, meaning Hyde will need to improve if he wants to survive. The turn, however, is the 7♥ and Leah makes a straight.
Hyde is drawing to a six to chop, but the river is the 8♠, giving Leah the pot and busting Hyde in seventh place. He'll take $36,795 back to Jekyll.
McCoy Hatfield'd (8th)
3 years agoMatt Stout raises to $34,000 from the hijack and sees Brian McCoy move all-in for $110,000 from the button. Glynn Hyde and Kai Landry fold out in the blinds but Stout insta-calls, turning up A♠ K♠ and having McCoy's A♥ J♦ straight dominated.
McCoy's ample cheering section stands and hollers for a jack, one time, and Stout joins in, telling the dealer he wouldn't mind seeing a jack out there either.
The flop, however, comes 9♣ 9♥ 8♠ and now Stout is asking for "a ten, but make it a spade," on the turn.
Instead, fourth street is the Q♥, giving McCoy a few more outs to stay alive. But the river is the 4♦ and McCoy is eliminated, out in eighth place and taking a $29,436 haul.
Wyville Byeville (9th)
3 years agoDavid Dao open-shoves all-in from the cut-off and Frank Wyville thinks it over from the big blind before calling off his stack with K♣ Q♦. Dao is well ahead with A♠ K♦ and Wyville will need a miracle to stay alive.
The board fails to help ol' Frank, coming 8♥ 7♦ 2♠ 5♣ A♦ to give Dao the pot and eliminate Wyville in ninth place. He'll earn $22,077 for his time in Tunica which, dare we say it, is too little a sum to convince us to come back.
Cowboys for Leah
3 years agoMike Leah raises to $16,000 and William "Kai" Landry makes the call in late position. The flop comes 6♠ 5♠ 2♠ and Leah checks. Landry bets out $25,000.
Leah gives the matter some thought before making the call, and the turn comes the 5♦. Leah checks again and Landry bets out $40,000. Leah quickly check-raises all-in and Landry lays down his pocket tens faceup.
Leah shows pocket kings as he rakes the pot.
Diggy Dao Diggy Doubles!
3 years agoAfter a few rather inconsequential hands, William "Kai" Landry raises to $16,000 from the hijack and David "Diggy" Dao makes it $66,000 to go from the cut-off. Jeremy Byrum ships it all-in from the button and the action folds back to Landry.
Landry lays it down but Dao calls off his last $156,000, turning up K♠ K♥ to counter Byrum's J♣ J♠. The board comes A♠ 5♣ 3♠ Q♣ 9♣ and the kings hold, giving Dao the pot and doubling him up as the field goes to break just 15 minutes after play began.
