Event 6 - $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout - Live Updates

It took less than four hours to find a winner on Day 3 of the $5k NLHE Shootout event.

The final table ended up being one of the shortest in WSOP history and heads-up play between Neil Channing and Josh Tieman lasted less than 10 hands.

It helped that Tieman had Channing out-chipped by a 7:1 margin.

In the final hand Tieman opened for 80,000 and Channing opted to shove for his last 716,000.

Tieman thought about his decision for the next few minutes but eventually decided to call.

The players flipped over their hands:

Tieman: A♥ J♣

Channing: A♠ 7♥

Channing was going to need a lot of help from the board as his weak kicker was threatening to cost him his tournament.

It didn't come as the the board ran out K♠ T♣ 4♣ T♦ Q♥. Tieman takes the pot and the tournament with two-pair queens and tens.

With players like Channing, Nicolas Levi and Joe Elpayaa in the field, Josh Tieman was definitely a dark horse but he could hang with the big dogs by busting both Channing and Elpayaa while dominating the later stages of the tournament.

Tieman takes down $441,691 for coming in first while Channing earns a $273,153 consolation prize although he probably would trade all of it for his first WSOP bracelet.

It didn't take long for the surging Josh Tieman to find his next victim.

Just a few hands after busting Joe Elpayaa, Tieman found himself in another huge pot against Stuart Rutter.

Rutter bet 68,000 on the button and Tieman raised to 185,000 from the big blind.

After thinking for a minute, Rutter re-raised to 500,000.

Tieman went straight into the tank and after carefully pondering his decision he opted to chuck all his chips in the middle having Rutter covered.

Rutter called and flipped over A♥ T♠ but Tieman had him crushed with A♣ Q♥.

The board ran out Q♦ 7♦ 3♥ A♠ 3♦ and the flopped queen was more than enough to give Tieman the hand.

Rutter picks up $179,000 and we're on to heads-up.

Heads-up Chip Counts

Tieman - 7.7 million
Channing: 1.2 million

Joseph Elpayaa, one of the most prolific players in this tournament, has been eliminated.

We're officially down to three players and Josh Tieman has come out of nowhere to lead this tournament.

Elpayaa Paid Out!

Stuart Rutter opened to 70,000 from UTG and Joe Elpayaa popped it up to 205,000. Tieman entered the hand from the big blind and raised an extra 580k.

Rutter got out of the way but Elpayaa wasn't prepared to give up on the hand. He moved all-in for 2.5 million.

Tieman took several minutes to contemplate the hand and looked frustrated while doing it. Finally Tieman made a crying call and Elpayaa flipped over A♠ J♥. Tieman showed T♣ T♥ and they were off to the races.

The board came 7♦ 6♥ 3♠ 5♠... T♣!

Tieman made a meaningless set to bust Elpayaa and take the overwhelming chip lead of five million chips.

Elpayaa busts in fourth place to take home $125,387.

And just like that we are down to the final four players at the $5k No-Limit Hold'em Shootout event.

We've seen our first bad beat of the final table and one of our most notable players hit the road.

Levi Leaves

Nicolas Levi has over $673,262 in live-time tournament earnings but thus far a major tournament title has eluded him.

That didn't change today.

Josh Tieman popped up to 60,000 and action folded to Levi who made it 180,000 to go. Tieman re-raised to 465,000 and Levi moved all-in.

The players revealed their cards:

Levi: J♠ J♦

Tieman: 8♣ 8♠

Levi was poised to crush Tieman with his superior pair but the board had other ideas when it came 8♦ 5♠ 4♠ A♣ 2♣ to give Tieman the pot and send Levi packing.

The Winamax pro will receive $92,543 for coming in fifth place.

After the hand Tieman rocketed into the upper echelon of chip counts.

There are several high-profile poker players with a vested interest in the outcome of this event.

Joseph Elpayaa obviously has a crew of online players cheering him on including Isaac Baron and Sorel Mizzi while Neil Channing has Barny Boatman and Chris "Moorman1" Moorman pulling for him.

Not a bad group of players to have behind you.

Six-handed poker is known to be faster and more action-packed than its nine-handed cousin and this final table is no exception.

It took less than 30 minutes for the first player to burn through 900,000 chips and for another player to establish himself as the dominant chip leader.

Hanks is Castaway

Brent Hanks' second experience at a WSOP final table was a short one.

The Las Vegas-native lost several meaningful pots early and finally succumbed to the rail after getting into a raising war with Nicolas Levi.

 Hanks bet 60,000 from the small blind but Levi re-raised to 160,000 from the big blind. Hanks felt that it was shove-time and put his remaining 300k in the middle.

Levi called him down and showed 7♦ 7♠. It was a classic race as Hanks flipped over A♠ Q♣ for two overcards.

The flop was not kind to Hanks as it came 9♠ 5♥ 5♠ but the turn was even worse as it came 7♣ to give Levi a Full House and the pot.

Hanks finishes in sixth place to pick up $71,998.

BigEgypt Gets Bigger

We've played through one level and thus far Joseph "BigEgypt" Elpayaa looks pretty much unstoppable.

It seems like Elpayaa has been involved in almost every pot and he's already chipped up from 900,000 to a little over 2.5 million.

Elpayaa is renowned as a skilled online tournament player and made a big score at the 2008 PCA where he came in sixth for $300,000.

A win here would net Elpayaa his first WSOP bracelet.

Brit on Brit

Neil Channing just went after Stuart Rutter in a significant pot.

Channing opened for 48,000, Rutter popped it up to 140,000 and Channing came over the top to 270,000.

Rutter seemed to contemplate shoving but eventually laid it down.

Channing turned over A♥ A♠ and the tournament director announced that he had pocket aces to the crowd.

"Really?" joked Channing as he raked the pot. "I thought I had deuces."

Welcome to PokerListings coverage of the final day of the $5,000 Shootout event.

It's been an intriguing event that was dominated in the early stages by big name players like Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and later turned into a chance for lesser-known players such as Joe Elpayaa and Heather Sue Mercer to elevate their profile.

The final table, while not the most star-studded in WSOP history, is headlined by former journalist and current poker player Neil Channing, Winamax pro Nicolas Levi, EPT final tablist Joseph Elpayaa, Brent Hanks, Josh Tieman and Stuart Rutter.

Perhaps the most interesting storyline at the final table is the "USA vs. UK" element. Of the six players at the final table, three are from the U.K. and three are from the U.S. Technically Nicolas Levi is French but currently lives in London.

Because this is a Shootout event every player at the final table will start with 900,000 chips. Essentially it's a six-person Sit & Go with over $1 million in prizes.

After a brief delay the tournament director has just announced the shuffle up and deal and we are once again live from the WSOP.
