2010 Main Event: And Then There Were Two

Jon Duhamel
The man in charge.

Three-handed, Jonathan Duhamel snatched the lead back from Joseph Cheong turning ace-king into two pair and calling down a few rather big bets from Cheong.

But Cheong picked up a number of small pots to push ahead again before the two got into a major pre-flop raising war with Duhamel making a 22 million chip five-bet over Cheong's 14 million chip four-bet.

Cheong tanked for a while before eventually pushing in and Duhamel called with queens.

Cheong had six-bet shoved ace-seven offsuit and needed to suck out to send Duhamel to the rail or face going from hero to zero and looking like a sure bet to exit third.

No ace came on the the flop or the turn and the river bricked, leaving Cheong severly crippled and Duhamel in complete control of the 2010 WSOP Main Event having just won the biggest pot of the tournament and WSOP history.

Cheong's 4 million in chips ended up in the middle with three-seven versus Duhamel's king-nine a few hands later and he found a miracle to double up.

He kept shoving until Duhamel called with ace-deuce and his tournament life was riding on queen-ten.

Ace-high held and Cheong said goodbye third ($4,129,979).

Duhamel will now take a massive lead into heads-up with John Racener on Monday night beginning at 8 p.m. PT.

Check the site Sunday for a few words from the planned Duhamel and Racener press conference and tune into Pokerlistings WSOP Live Updates Monday to catch all the heads up action until a 2010 WSOP Main Event winner is crowned.

For now, here's the chip counts:

1 Jonathan Duhamel 188,950,000

2 John Racener 30,750,000

2010 November Nine: Candio Cut 4th!

Filippo Candio
Italian iced.

In the wake of Michael Mizrachi's exit Filippo Candio shoved king-queen and got looked up by Joseph Cheong holding ace-three.

An ace on the flop put his tournament life in serious jeopardy and the Italian was drawing dead and exiting fourth ($3,092,497) after missing the turn.

Now three-handed, they will play until they get heads-up starting with stacks that look a lot like these:

1 Joseph Cheong 107,350,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 83,950,000

3 John Racener 28,000,000

The Exit Interview

We caught Candio moments after he hit the bricks to see what he had to say about earning over $4 million and becoming Italy's leading tournament money winner.

Let's just say he was pretty pleased with himself.

WSOP Main Event: The Grinder Gets Fifth!

Michael Mizrachi
Ground.

The Grinder is gone.

Michael Mizrachi started the latest level on the climb, shoving into a 3.5 million chip Joseph Cheong raise and getting the chip leader to lay it down.

Play tightened significantly for a while, with a single preflop raise enough to take just about any pot and even the odd walk.

By this time Jonathan Duhamel and Cheong found themselves neck and neck for the lead on about 75 million chips a peice before things took a rather dramatic turn.

The Grinder got it all in after flopping top pair queens, but Duhamel had pocket aces.

Needing to pair his eight kicker or hit a third queen, the jack on the turn and king on the river sent Mizrachi home fifth ($2,332,960).

Duhamel suddenly vaulted back into the lead as the most experienced player at this final table said goodnight.

Michael Mizrachi Bustout Interview

Here's how they stack up four-handed:

1 Jonathan Duhamel 91,950,000

The 2010 Main Event: Five For Fighting

Jon Duhamel and Michael Mizrachi
Clash of the Titans.

The 2010 Main Event is still five-handed now headed into the tournament's 40th level.

Michael Mizrachi shoved the small blind facing a button raise from Jonathan Duhamel as the action continued.

Duhamel laid it down and The Grinder continued grinding.

It seems it was pick on John Racener time after that as both Joseph Cheong and Filippo Candio pushed him off of opening raises.

Duhamel then dragged a 14 million chip pot, including a big piece of The Grinder's stack, betting big on the turn of a T T 8 5 board before a 20-minute break began and the five remaining players returned to stacks that look an awful lot like these:

1 Joseph Cheong 66,750,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 56,550,000

WSOP Main Event: Grinder Loses His Grip

Joe Cheong
Take us to your leader.

John Racener got it in with a dominating ace-king to Michael Mizrachi's ace-eight to double up soon after play went five-handed and Joseph Cheong took the outright lead.

Racener got pushed off a raise by Cheong a few hands later and Cheong's lead began increasing.

Jonathan Duhamel then tried pushing Racener off another raise, but this time he called all in with A Q.

Duhamel had a dominating A K, but a queen on the flop changed all that.

The turn and river blanked, Racener doubled again and suddenly Duhamel, who had started the day in the lead, was among the shorter stacks.

The Grinder then shoved threes facing a Duhamel raise and he called all in with ace-nine.

A nine on the flop and another on the turn saved Duhamel's life and left Mizrachi with some work to do once again.

Here's how things look now:

1 Joseph Cheong 69,225,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 47,400,000

3 John Racener 42,200,000

4 Michael Mizrachi 32,500,000

2010 Main Event: Dolan Done 6th!

John Dolan
Charisma personified.

The November Nine is now five.

The first big hand six-handed saw Joseph Cheong push in after John Racener opened things up from the button.

Faced with a decision for his tournament life, Racener threw it away and Cheong was left breathing down Michael Mizrachi's neck.

John Dolan shoved once and picked up the blinds after that, but the second time he tried, Jonathan Duhamel called with pocket fours.

Dolan showed Q 5 and the less-than-classic race was on.

With the crowd screaming any number of inaudible things, the board bricked and John Dolan said goodbye sixth ($1,772,939).

Here's how things look now five-handed with Cheong in a dead heat for the lead with Mizrachi:

1 Michael Mizrachi 61,950,000

2 Joseph Cheong 61,575,000

2010 November Nine: Senti Sent Home 7th!

Jason Senti
One timed!

Just six remain in the hunt for the 2010 WSOP Main Event title.

Filippo Candio put his tournament life on the line check raising all-in on a flop with two queens and two spades after Jonathan Duhamel opened and John Racener flatted.

Duhamel folded, but Racener stared Candio down for quite some time before letting it go.

Joseph Cheong then got in on the action re-rasing all in against Duhamel pre-flop to drag a pot and then it was Jason Senti's turn.

He got it all in with A K against Cheong's pocket tens and flopped trip kings.

The jack on the turn made him sweat a little as a nine or a ten on the river would end his Main Event and sure enough, a nine fell sending Senti out seventh ($1,356,708).

Jason Senti Exit Interview

Jason Senti was understandably a little shaken up by the hand that busted him out of this Main Event but after just a few short minutes he was ready to get in front of the camera to give us his side of the story.

So, without further ado, the Jason Senti bustout interview!

Here's how things now look six-handed:

1 Michael Mizrachi 65,400,000

2 Joseph Cheong 46,325,000

3 Jonathan Duhamel 41,425,000

2010 Main Event: The More Things Change

Michael Mizrachi
Like a boss.

The first action back from dinner came in the form of a Jonathan Duhamel raise and Filippo Candio flat call that Joseph Cheong stomped all over with a reraise from the small blind.

Duhamel mucked, but Candio quickly shipped it in forcing Cheong to give up his hand and more than five million chips.

Duhamel then stepped all over both a John Dolan and Jason Senti open to pick up a couple of pots pre flop before they approached the 100th hand of the final table so far.

As Duhamel's momentum gained, so did the spirit of the supporters chanting his name as he picked up pot after pot and inched ever closer to Michael Mizrachi.

John Dolan shipped it in from the small blind after a raise from the cutoff by Jason Senti to begin to climb out of the cellar.

But Michael Mizrachi got into a bit of a pissing contest with Filippo Candio to take a bite out of him before 60 minutes were up and he's now increased his lead on the field.

For the most part, things don't look much different than they did an hour ago when these seven players returned from the dinner break, but Miizrachi may be beginning to pull away.

Here's a look at the stacks:

1 Michael Mizrachi 61,075,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 52,800,000

3 John Racener 27,575,000

2010 November Nine: The Boys Are Back

Michael Mizrachi
Grind on.

We return to seven-handed action at the 2010 WSOP Main Event with Michael Mizrachi in the lead.

Jonathan Duhamel sits threateningly close and Joseph Cheong is within striking distance.

Thanks to a late rally from John Racener, he's now in a pack with Jason Senti, and Filippo Candio within a double up of threatening for the lead.

For now, it's John Dolan who sits at the bottom of the counts, but he's hardly out of it yet.

The blinds are dangerously high with the big going up to one million next level, but plenty of play still remains as these seven poker warriors battle the pressure of millions of dollars, the glare of the TV lights, fatigue and eachother.

The one thing we can say is that Soi Nguyen and Matt Jarvis will not win the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

But as they push on towards the goal of reaching heads-up play tonight, the big picture has become even blurrier.

The difference between the stacks has tightened and the World title and its almost $9 million prize is truly up for grabs.

This is what the stacks look like:

1 Michael Mizrachi 50,525,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 47,500,000

3 Joseph Cheong 30,350,000

4 John Racener 25,675,000

WSOP Main Event: Dinner For Seven

Jon Duhamel
Chow time.

We're off to dinner still seven handed at the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

A slowly sinking John Racener finally put a stop to the bleeding somewhat, making a rather slow call with a set of queens after Filippo Candio had raised him on the river of a board where he could have possibly flopped a straight.

Still short, Racener was at least up and over ten million in chips when Candio shoved facing a Jonathan Duhamel raise and Michael Mizrachi flat call.

Duhamel's cards hit the muck quickly, but it took a while for The Grinder to fold, and when he did, the Italian showed the 7.

Racener then picked up a few more chips from Joseph Cheong and Duhamel as the players headed off on a 90-minute dinner break.

Here's what things will look like when seven-handed play resumes at 8:15 p.m. PT:

1 Michael Mizrachi 53,100,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 49,750,000

3 Joseph Cheong 30,450,000

4 Filippo Candio 23,475,000

2010 Main Event: The Grinder Takes Hold

Michael Mizrachi
Things are looking up.

We're still seven handed here, but Michael Mizrachi has taken the lead.

Jason Senti appeared headed for the exits as the last hour began with him shoving an offsuit king into Joseph Cheong's ace-rag of clubs.

An ace on the turn would have sealed the deal if it didn't bring him some four-flush outs.

Sure enough, he made a diamond flush on the river to double up and seven-handed play continued with a newly stacked Senti having alleveated the pressure somewhat and Jonathan Duhamel back in the chip leader's chair.

Duhamel continued to extend that lead pushing Cheong off a big pot after the players came back from a short break.

But Mizrachi began gaining momentum right after as the pro-Grinder crowd grew louder and louder inside the packed theater.

First John Dolan came with a raise and Duhamel repopped right behind.

The Grinder then four bet four-bet it up to 10 million forcing folds all around to pick up an easy six-million plus.

He grabbed another pot pre flop right after and was suddenly in the lead.

Here's how things stand now in Level 38:

1 Michael Mizrachi 50,600,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 45,500,000

3 Joseph Cheong 36,000,000

4 Filippo Candio 32,125,000

2010 November Nine: Cheong in Charge

Joe Cheong
Ship it to subiime.

It has been about an hour since Matt Jarvis said goodbye eighth and Joseph Cheong has moved into the chip lead, turning six-four into a raggedy two pair to drag rather sizeable pot off Jonathan Duhamel.

Jason Senti shoved following a John Racener open shortly after and got a fold from the Floridian to continue on his shove-or-fold path to glory.

Filippo Candio then bluffed Michael Mizrachi off a big pot and decided to show a missed flush draw as he pushed up the leaderboard.

Here's how things stack up now seven handed:

1 Joseph Cheong 53,525,000

2 Jonathan Duhamel 43,475,000

3 Michael Mizrachi 42,100,000

4 Filippo Candio 34,400,000

WSOP Main Event: Jarvis Busts in 8th!

Matt Jarvis
Suck re-sucked.

We're down to seven in the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

Chips worth 500k were introduced as Level 37 began following Soi Nguyen's exit in ninth.

Filippo Candio then opened a pot only to see Joseph Cheong call from the button and Jonathan Duhamel reraise from the big blind.

The Italian pushed in for over 14 million and while Cheong folded, Duhamel made the call with ace-king.

Candio held aces, aces held and Candio doubled up to break into the top half of the final eight with over 31 million in chips.

Duhamel was still on top sitting on just over 50 million as play continued, but suddenly the overwhelming chip leader didn't look so overhwlming anymore.

Cheong reraised a Matt Jarvis open not too long after, which drew a call from John Dolan in the small blind.

Jarvis gave it up and things seemed pretty tame until Cheong made a massive 8.9 million river bet on a very connected queen-high board with three clubs.

Dolan made the call, Cheong had the nut flush and dragged the rather bountiful pot to move up to second in chips above Dolan and closing in on Duhamel.

Then we suddenly lost Matt Jarvis following the kind of drama only a poker hand can provide.

Michael Mizrachi called a Jarvis shove with ace-queen and the Canadian found himself racing to avoid eighth place with pocket nines.

Two queens on the flop really put a damper on things, but a nine on the turn came down from above to save him.

However, the poker gods had one more cruel turn in mind for Jarvis as an ace fell on the river, making Mizrachi a bigger boat and sending Jarvis to the rail eighth ($1,045,738).

The Grinder is suddenly a player again with just seven remaining.

Matt Jarvis Exit Interview

Here's how things stand now:

1 Jonathan Duhamel 51,725,000

2010 Main Event: Nguyen Ninth!

Soi Nguyen
Didn't Nguyen.

The November Nine is down to eight!

John Racener took more than 6.5 million chips from John Dolan with pocket kings to start the day's second hour.

Michael Mizrachi then grabbed a peice of Dolan next, four-betting after he came over the top of a Jason Senti open.

The Grinder suddenly had a few more chips to play with after both players mucked and he is beginning to mount a serious threat.

Matt Jarvis shoved into a Jonathan Duhamel open to get things headed in the right direction again soon after, but that hasn't stopped a suddenly awake Duhamel, who had begun to open more than his fair share of pots and weild that big stack like a weapon until we had our first big showdown.

Soi Nguyen pushed his 7.6 million stack in the middle with ace-king and Jason Senti came along for the ride with queens in a classic race with Nguyen's tournament life hanging in the balance.

Senti flopped a set of queens and Nguyen the gutshot, but no jack on the turn or river put Nguyen out ninth ($811,823).

A 20-minute break ensued right after as just eight remain in the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

Here's how they stack up:

1 Jonathan Duhamel 65,525,000

2 John Dolan 39,525,000

3 Joseph Cheong 29,675,000

2010 Main Event: Conducting Things

Jason Senti
Moving on up!

We're an hour in to the 2010 WSOP Main Event final table and we've seen our fair share of action.

Joseph Cheong drew first blood taking a better than $15-million chip pot off Matt Jarvis when he pushed all in on the river of a 10 5 2 7 8 board facing a 4.275 million third bullet from Jarvis and more than 11 million in the pot.

Jarvis suddenly found himself the short stack at the table after his hand hit the muck.

Easily the most active player from the outset, John Dolan has chipped up without having to show down a hand so far and is inching ever closer to a rather quiet Jonathan Duhamel, who still holds the chip lead despite not playing very many hands at all.

Jason Senti started the day at the bottom of the chip counts, but has since shoved his short stack in a total of five times, picking up the blinds, antes and a John Racener raise in the process.

Thanks to the fact Soi Nguyen lost a pot early, Senti is now seventh in chips and on the rise.

As we head into the second hour of the day, here's how things stand:

1 Jonathan Duhamel 65,625,000

2 John Dolan 49,725,000

3 Joseph Cheong 32,500,000

4 John Racener 17,900,000
