$50k H.O.R.S.E. – David Bach wins 2009 H.O.R.S.E.
It took just over 20 hours and in the process became the longest $50k H.O.R.S.E. tournament in history but we have a winner!
David Bach has finally triumphed over John Hanson.
It all started with a pivotal Hold’em hand where Bach and Hanson saw a board of 7
7
4
2
3
with Bach betting on every street. Hanson called his river bet only to have Bach flip over A
5
for the nut-flush.
That hand gave Bach a huge chip lead but the deciding hand of the tournament would come in Razz.
In the hand Hanson was showing (X)(X)9
J
to Bach’s (X)(X)6
A
. On third street Hanson brought in, Bach completed, Hanson bet, Bach raised and Hanson called. On fourth Bach fired Hanson called for the last of his chips. They showed their cards:
Hanson: (5
)(8
)9
J
Bach: (4
)(7
)6
A
Bach was in the lead and his cards finished with A
Q
9
to give him the 9-7-6-4-A low while Hanson could only make a 9-8-6-5-2.
Congratulations in order for David Bach who put on a spectacular performance at one of the longest final tables in WSOP history.
Bach will receive $1.2 million for coming in first while Hanson will have to settle for the $789,199 that comes along with second.

$50k H.O.R.S.E. – One for the Ages
It’s getting close to 9 a.m. Las Vegas time and what started as another final table is turning into one of the more memorable (or at least long) final tables in recent memory.
The railbirds have long since gone home, even the most stalwart cash-game degenerates have called it quits in the Amazon Room and it seems like only two poker players in the entire building remain.
John Hanson and David Bach have been locked in a heads-up battle for close to six hours and it seems like weeks ago that Erik Seidel was our first elimination.
Even with the bigger blinds the swings seem to be even more minor. Hanson and Bach are almost dead-even right now and it seems like they are literally taking turns winning pots. If anything the players seem to be more conservative now.
Combine that with numerous chopped pots and we are getting ever closer to the 9:30 a.m. mark that was set when Chip Reese won the inaugural $50k H.O.R.S.E. tournament back in 2006.
Stay tuned...
