$3k H.O.R.S.E. - Zac Fellows Wins the Bracelet!

Zac Fellows
Winnar!

It's all over in the H.O.R.S.E. and Zac Fellows is the man to take the plaudits and glory!

James Van Alstyne collects $192,866 for 2nd place, but he will perhaps be disappointed at his heads-up performance after being mercilessly bullied and out-played by Fellows.

Alstyne didn't seem to adjust to the heads-up format and Fellows unrelenting aggression earned him the title as he just ground down his opponent.

Fellows earned his bracelet after battling back from the brink, reduced to dust in the midpoint of the final table.

It's Canada's first bracelet and all of Canada will be proud of their man wearing the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles t-shirt.

Fellows picks up a chunky $311,899 for first. Congratulations sir!

That's the $3k H.O.R.S.E. wrapped!

Join us shortly for our re-cap of the day but for now thanks for following and we'll see you back at the felt tomorrow for the rest of this exciting World Series.

$3k H.O.R.S.E. - Heads-Up for the Bracelet!

Michele Limongi
We love your eyebrows Michele. See you soon.

Two more H.O.R.S.E.s have neighed their last and we are in the home straight now.

The two remaining players, James Alstyne and Zac Fellows, are battling for the bracelet and are virtually even.

This is the tale of woe that befell the other two players.

Michele-Shocked!(4th)

Michele Limongi was to fall victim during the Razz stages. He went toe-to-toe with Zac Fellows, who had earlier warned the table of his advanced Razz skillz but it seemed like Limongi hadn't paid attention.

Limongi succumbed to Fellow's ten-low when he bricked on seventh and the oldest remaining competitor bites the dust in 4th spot, winning $87,264.

Tim's Not Finne (3rd)

Tim Finne was about to be nick-named the barnacle, due to his short-stack ninja skills. He had been all-in multiple times, surviving every encounter until finally Zac Fellows had had enough and took him decisively in the Hold'em round.

Three-handed king-nine looked good to Finne, but when Fellows woke up with ace-king, he was in big trouble and sweating a nine to survive.

Instead Fellows made the nut flush to send him to the rail with a chunky $126,199 his reward for 3rd place.

So we're heads up and here are the current counts, the two remaining H.O.R.S.E.s neck-and-neck as they gallop up the home stretch.

$3k H.O.R.S.E. - Four H.O.R.S.E.men of the Apocalypse

Chris Amaral
$63.5k - That buys a lot of sugar lumps bud!

The above title suggests there are four left in this bracelet hunt, which is indeed the case!

Logically, that also implies that two players must have fallen. Also spot on.

The tournament is shaping up perfectly for James Van Alstyne, who continues to chip up and chip away despite rarely being involved in any bust-outs himself.

Here's the word from the H.O.R.S.E.'s mouth.

Eiking Put Out To Stud! (6th)

Martin Eiking looked to be treading water with his micro-stack and so when he was dealt split aces in the Stud section, he must have been itching to pounce on the opportunity to double-up.

Pounce he did, capping the action pre-flop with Zac Fellows before the rest of his chips went in on fourth.

Showing down (A 9)A 9 9 2 to Fellows' (J J)4 Q 8 8 he was a big favourite on seventh with his nines full to Fellow's two-pair.

The rail, who had become quite subdued, were roused from their comatose slumber however when Zac flipped up the J to make a bigger house, jacks-full.

The noise was almost deafening at what must be one of the harsher beats at this WSOP so far.

Eiking could still get out of it with an ace or nine on seventh, but he missed and Eiking bows out 6th for $63,536.

Amaral-ity Play (5th)

Chris Amaral was short in the Hold'em section and K 3 looked good enough to roll with and roll he did.

When he got action from Tim Finne, he may have been thinking he needed to spike to win, but no, it turned out he held a narrow advantage, Tim showing down Q J.

The flop and turn bricked meaning Amaral was almost home and dry for a double-through, but horror of horrors, a queen spiked on the river to draw his celebrations to a close.

Amaral looked slightly glum but shook hands with the players as he departed in 5th spot, collecting $63,536 for the result.

The players are on a short break to colour up chips but will be back shortly to continue their H.O.R.S.E. play.

$3k H.O.R.S.E. - The Sick Six!

Gabriel Nassif
Nassif had the mane, but not the game.

We're down to six contenders for the bracelet now, with the elimination of one more player in the last level.

James Van Alstyne has galloped back into the lead he conceded to Michele Limongi a short while ago and is looking favorite for the bracelet right now.

Here's how the last hour's developments panned out.

Gabriel's No Angel (7th)

With a biblical name like Gabriel, one might have expected Gabriel Nassif to find a better hand than K Q J 3 to ship his last few chips in.

In truth, he had little choice, so shortstacked in the big blind that he was barely able to call Chris Amaral's raise in the Omaha-8 round. He did call though and his tournament life was on the line.

When Amaral flipped up a juicy-looking A A 4 7, it looked bad for Nassif, but a flop of T 9 6 was very promising, giving him a wrap to pin his hopes on.

He was to be disappointed however as the turn and river bricked, Amaral's aces had held and Nassif found himself consigned to the leafy pastures in the sky.

He collects $38,947 for his performance.

Cheery Fellows

Zac Fellows has staved off elimination, doubling through in the Razz variant.

He was down to the felt but managed to squeeze out a seven-low to bust Eikeng's hand, when he made a full house, and no doubt wished he'd been playing stud.

Taking The Count

Here's the chip counts, showing Van Alstyne's growing domination.

$3k H.O.R.S.E. - Hoss Down!

Matt Hawrilenko
Off to the glue factory for this H.O.R.S.E.

We're back from the break and one H.O.R.S.E. has been felled at the first hurdle.

This event may be playing second fiddle to the $10k 2-7 Championship Event and some of the other Hold'em tournaments playing out right now, but there is still an excited crowd thronged around the rail, eager to watch the riveting action play out.

Here's news of what's been going down along with that bustout.

Gim'Michele'ter

As the Rolling Stones sang in their infamous song, "Love, sister, it's just a kiss away" and for Michele Limongi it turned out the chip lead, sister, was just a pot away.

He won a Stud pot from Zac Fellows, betting out on seventh, his board showing (x,x) K 4 3 2(x)

Fellows threw his hand away, perhaps fearing some monsters in the hole but a chuckling Limongi just showed a single pair of threes as he collected the pot and in doing so grabbed the chip lead from James Van Alstyne.

Hoss Pasture-ised (8th)

Matt "HossTBF" Hawrilenko is the first man to succumb at this final, the Razz round causing his demise. He made a promising 7-6 low versus Chris Amaral but when Amaral showed he had made 7-4 by seventh, it was all over including the singing for the Hoss.

He picks up $32,647 for 8th! Good game sir!

It's interesting to see how the players interact at these mixed game events.

In the Hold'em events often you will see players posturing and criticising - bad blood seems commonplace - but here at the H.O.R.S.E. the players seem to have nothing but mutual admiration.

As Hawrilenko left the table, every single player stood to shake his hand, and he was even hugged heartily as he left the felt.

It's a pleasant experience to see players showing some respect to each other at the felt. Well played guys!

$3k H.O.R.S.E. - Back From Dinner

James Van Alstyne
Running hot in the mixed game format.

The players are back from dinner and it's James Van Alstyne who leads the way at present. This is Van Alstyne's second final table of the series having already finalled the $10k World Championship Mixed Event.

His impressive career record shows almost $3 million in tournament results, though he is still missing a bracelet off that resume.

He's been in the thick of the action following the hiatus in play.

Here's the news.

It's Not Ladies Night

Van Alstyne started the resumption in play brightly, calling a three-bet from Michele Limongi and going heads-up to an ace-high flop.

He called a bet and the two then checked down the later streets.

Limongi showed an out-drawn pair of ladies, whilst Alstyne's ace-ten was good for the pot.

Hawrilenko Doubles!

Things looked dire for Matt Hawrilenko with his small chip stack and though he barely has a few shekels to rub together, he has at least doubled-through to give himself a shot at getting back in the game.

Moments later though, he doubled up against the same man, Van Alstyne, going for broke in the Omaha-8 section with the pretty looking A 2 8 4 versus Alstyne's A Q 9 8.

Alstyne was less fortunate this time as he watched Hawrilenko make a full house and an eight-low to scoop the pot and move his chip stack to almost 200k.

The Chip's Lips

They say chips talk and if they could, Van Alstyne's stack would be shouting the loudest.

$3K H.O.R.S.E. – Final Table is a Go!

With one more elimination we’ve finally reached the real final table of Event 21 H.O.R.S.E. The only problem is that it’s approximately 7 p.m. Las Vegas time as this is being written and the final table is just beginning. Keep in mind this is a H.O.R.S.E. final and not six-handed No-Limit Hold’em. It could be a very, very long night.

Here’s a look at how we got to the final table:

Yancik Sacked (Ninth)

Stewart Yancik has been one of the short stacks for the last hour and couldn’t recover from losing a big pot to Chris Amaral.

In his final hand Yancik played a five-way pot in Hold’em against Michele Limongi, Matt Hawrilenko, Time Finne and Zac Fellows. After the flop of 9 4 3 Yancik committed the last of his chips to the pot. Limongi called, Hawrilenko called and then Fellows raised it up to 33,000 chips. Finne and Limongi both folded and Hawrilenko called.

The turn came 4 and Hawrilenko checked. Fellows fired and forced a lay-down from Hawrilenko giving Fellows the side-pot. Fellows and Yancik revealed their hands:

Yancik: A 6

Fellows: K K

That was it for Yancik and he will receive $23,777 for coming in ninth.

Dinner Break and Chip Counts

With Yancik’s elimination the players elected to take a dinner break and will be gone until approximately 8 p.m. PST. Here are the latest chip counts courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com:

$3K H.O.R.S.E. – The Nine

We still have nine players over at the pseudo final table of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. and every player seems to have tightened up considerably.

Perhaps it’s that they’re nine-handed, or that the real final table is just one elimination away or maybe even the fact that all H.O.R.S.E. games are Limit but we haven’t even come close the ninth place bust out.

Here’s a look at what’s been going on in the last hour of play:

James Van Alstyne = Million Dollar Man?

James Van Alstyne, who final tabled the $10,000 mixed event last year, seems to be the man to beat in this event and has been steadily adding more chips to his giant stack over the last hour. Van Alstyne is currently stacked with 920,000 chips and could very well be the first player in this event to breach the one million chip mark.

Keep in mind there are approximately four million chips in play and if Van Alstyne can get up to one million he’ll have a quarter of the chips in play. All made possible by a stack of just 9,000 chips.

Hawrilenko Up, Yancik Down

Full Tilt Poker Pro Matt Hawrilenko, who you might know better as Hoss_TBF, has been on a steady climb in the chip counts since making the final nine and has made his way up to nearly 300,000 chips while Stewart Yancik has been beat down to approximately 200,000 chips and is our new short-stack.

$3K H.O.R.S.E. – Gavin Smith Smited

We’ve finally reached a final table of sorts in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. We’re down to nine players, which isn’t technically a final table because in H.O.R.S.E. the final is always eight-handed. They are, however, playing at one table so it’s all a matter of semantics right now.

A certain Full Tilt pro busted out in 10th, which means he won’t be seeing any of that sweet final table money. Here’s what else happened in the last hour of play.

Asher Roth’ed (12th)

Asher Derei has been eliminated after losing a pivotal race in Hold’em. Derei got all his chips in the middle pre-flop with A Q and Michele Limongi made the call with 4 4.

The board ran out 7 5 2 3 T and somehow Limongi’s pair of fours held up. Derei is out in 12th for $17,939.

Frank Cremated (11th)

Frank Cremen got in some trouble during a Razz round and quickly found himself out of the tournament. It was once again Michele Limongi was the culprit.

In the hand Cremen made (T-7)5-T-3-K(6) but that wasn’t enough to beat Limongi’s (8-7)3-2-9-9(6). Cremen gets $19,939 for coming in 11th.

Birdguts Squashed! (10th)

Perhaps the most well-known player remaining in the event has been eliminated. Full Tilt’s Gavin Smith was eyeing yet another final table appearance but it wasn’t in the books.

During a round of Seven-Card Stud Smith got the last of his chips in the middle on fourth street and the boards ran out like this:

Smith: (8 8)8 7 Q 5(J)

Opponent: (A K)K K 8 T(A)

Bad like for Smith as his rolled up eights were no match for his opponent’s trip kings and then full boat. Smith will receive $23,777 for coming in 10th.

$3K H.O.R.S.E. – Thrown from the Saddle

Play has been unusually fast in the first couple of levels in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. We are now down to 12 players and the final table of eight players is starting to beckon.

Zac Fellows is the man to beat right now and has well over 600,000 chips. Here’s a look at what else has been going on in the last hour of play:

David Baker Baked (17th)

David Baker was the charismatic short stack at the start of the day but now he’s just the charismatic railbird.

The well-known online player got the last of his chips in the middle during a round of Razz with 5. Unfortunately for Baker, Stewart Yancik made the call with 6 showing. The boards ran out like this:

Baker: (8 2)5 J 5 6

Yancik: (5 3)6 A T 5

Yancik looked at his seventh card first and revealed the K. Baker flipped over the T which was just barely beat by Yancik’s 10-6 low.

Baker will receive $8,782 for his efforts.

Chau Giang Gonged (16th)

A cowboy hat wearing Chau Giang is always good for the game but the seasoned cash game master has taken his leave of this tournament.

Apparently Giang’s pair wasn’t enough to beat his opponent’s straight in a round of Omaha-8. On the plus side Giang gets to add another $11,477 to his poker resume. That’s good enough for a few big blinds are Bobby’s Room.

More Bustos

Adam Heller (15th), Aaron Steury (14th) and Bill Blanda (13th) have all been eliminated. So close, yet so far.

$3K H.O.R.S.E. – Saddle up for Day 3

It’s the final day of Event 21 $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. and although there are still 21 players remaining in this event the goal is to play down to a winner tonight.

We’ve already had several eliminations, which can only be a good thing to organizers who are already worried about what could turn out to be an incredibly long night.

Here’s a look at what happened in the first hour of play:

Now on the Rail…

Jared Okun (21st), Brian McKain (20th) and Frank Debus (19th) have all been eliminated from the tournament. Maybe they should try their luck at the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E.?

Baker Plays Short-Stack Hero

David Baker was crippled in early against Gavin Smith but he’s been steadily building since then. In a recent hand Baker got it all-in pre-flop during a round of Hold’em and his opponent decided to call despite a weak hand. The players revealed their hands:

Baker: Q 9

Opponent: J 7

The board ran out A A K 5 8 and Baker survived to see another day. After the hand Baker was up to approximately 44,000 chips and has some work to do in this event.

“I’m good for a few more rounds,” laughed Baker after the hand.

A Disturbance in the Schwartz

Team PokerStars Pro Ylon Schwartz has been eliminated after losing an early pot and never really getting anything going on Day 3 of the $3k H.O.R.S.E.

During Omaha-8 Schwartz got the last of his chips into the middle on a flushy T 4 2 7 K board. Schwartz showed A Q 8 5 and was looking to grab the low but his opponent showed A 9 5 3 for the low and the high.

Schwartz receives $8,782 for his 18th place finish, which is significantly less than the $3.7 million he got for finishing fourth in last year’s Main Event.
