Event 9, No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed - Live Updates
Day 3 Live Updates
Porter Wins!
4 years agoRep Porter has won!
The two heads-up combatants got it all in with Porter holding K♣ Q♠ and Nathan Templeton K♠ 9♦. The board rolled out J♥ 8♣ 5♦ 4♦ 3♠ and while Templeton takes $231,982 for second Porter gets the $372,843 first place prize, the bracelet and all the glory.
Stay tuned for an interview with Porter that should be up here in a little while.
Event 9 - Heads Up!
4 years agoA battle of the Porters has left us with just Rep now ready to take on Nathan Templeton heads up. The players are taking a short break to collect their thoughts before the mano-a-mano action heats up.
Porter Valeted (3rd)
Nathan Templeton made it $245,000 to go before the break and Devin Porter took a stand shoving all in. Rep Porter must have liked Devin's move because he followed suit pushing his own stack in the middle.
Templeton stepped out of the way and Rep's pocket tens need to fade the two overs in Devin's A♣ J♣. The 9♠ 5♣ 3♥ flop was followed up by a 5♣ turn giving Devin the flush draw. However, the 3♠ river ended any hope.
He was left with just $40k and shipped it a hand later going out 3rd for a $151,842 cash.
We are moving to heads up with Rep Porter holding a big chip advantage sitting on $2.7 million to Templeton's $925k.
Event 9 - Down To Three
4 years agoThe 90-minute dinner break is over and play has resumed. With the blinds this high and continuing to escalate the tight play that characterized this final table before dinner should be a thing of the past. We've already lost one of four and things are heating up.
Conkright Wronged! (4th)
We're down to three now that John Conkright has been eliminated in 4th Place ($101,228).
His last hand began with an $80k raise from Nathan Templeton on the button. Conkright shoved for his last $417,000 from the big blind and Templeton made a fairly quick call.
It went K♣ 5♠ for Conkright against Templeton's A♣ 10♣.
The A♦ 10♥ 9♦ flop left little to think about and the A♠ turned sealed the deal. For those of you keeping score at home the river was the 2♠ but it didn't matter Conkright was done.
Playing three handed Rep Porter has $1.8 million, Nathan Templeton just under a million and Devin Porter has $900k.
Event 9 - The Doldrums
4 years agoAction has seriously slowed down in this event, reminding us of that part of that old-school movie where nothing ever happens, seriously. Four players remain with Rep Porter leading the charge to the bracelet.
Each and every player at the table seems to be a little hesitant to make moves which is the complete opposite of what we've seen in this six-handed tournament since Day 1. Stacks are relatively short which is limiting their ability to get too fancy.
We've reached 160 hands and with just two eliminations it's safe to say things are going slow.
Brand-Spanking New Counts
Here are the new counts for the final four, courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com.
| Rep Porter | $1,260,000 |
| Devin Porter | $1,200,000 |
| John Conkright | $660,000 |
| Nathan Templeton | $560,000 |
Edge of Your Seat Thrill Ride
While the action is a tad slow there are some trends to be seen. Rep Porter has been playing solid and maintaining the lead he's held for most of the final table. If he's losing any ground it's to Devin Porter who's the only one showing much aggression at all. Devin's been more active than his opponents which has paid dividends over the last few levels.
Event 9 - The Eternal Struggle
4 years agoOur final four players are still going at it, trading small pots back and forth as the blinds creep inexorably upward. Right now the play is still pretty snug with most of the action taking place before the flop. Here's a bit of the action we've seen as well as updated counts.
Four More Counts!
Here's a look at the newest counts for the final four.
| Rep Porter | $1,580,000 |
| Nathan Templeton | $840,000 |
| John Conkright | $700,000 |
| Devin Porter | $585,000 |
Porter versus Porter
We just saw a clash of the Porters as Rep and Devin duked it out in an all-in pre-flop pot. It began with Rep opening to $60,000 from the button and Devin moving all-in from the big blind for $268,000. Rep made the call and turned over 9♥ 9♦ which was racing Devin’s A♥ K♦.
The flop came down J♣ T♥ 8♣ and Devin picked up a few more outs. The Q♣ on the turn nailed his gut-shot and the 5♥ on the river made it official. Porter doubles through Porter while Porter laments Porter’s good luck.
Event 9 - Down to Four
4 years agoWe are down to four at this final table with the elimination of Anthony Shilyuk in fifth place. Up to this point the action had been grinding to a halt with most pots being contested pre-flop. Shilyuk was crippled in a big hand with Nathan Templeton before going busto at the hands of monster-stack Rep Porter.
Read on for details as well as updated counts.
Templeton Times Two
Nathan Templeton was just at risk of elimination but instead was able to double up and leave Anthony Shilyuk in dire straights. The hand began with Templeton opening to $40,000 from under the gun and Shilyuk defending from the big blind.
The flop came down Q♦ 5♦ 2♥ and after Shilyuk checked, Templeton fired $50,000. Shilyuk then check-raised to $160,000 and, after some thought, Templeton moved all-in for $250,000 total. Shilyuk made the call and saw his J♦ 9♦ draw would need to hit to crack Templeton’s A♥ Q♣.
The 8♥ turn added a few more outs to Shilyuk’s list but the 9♠ on the river failed to do the job. Templeton rakes the pot and earns a new lease on his tournament life.
Shilyuk Shellacked (5th)
After losing the majority of his chips in the hand detailed above Anthonly Shilyuk has been eliminated. His last hand began with Rep Porter opening from the button to $45,000 and Shilyuk moving in from the small blind for $138k.
Porter made the call and saw his 3♠ 3♣ would need to hold against the all-in Shilyuk's K♣ 8♣. The board ran J♦ 4♠ 2♣ 4♣ 5♦ and, despite picking up a lot of outs on the turn, Shilyuk was forced to hit the old dusty trail. He's out in fifth and will receive $70,859.
Chip Counts Make the World Go Round
Here are the updated counts for the final five, brought to you courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com.
| Rep Porter | $2,000,000 |
| Nathan Templeton | $684,000 |
| John Conkright | $610,000 |
| Devin Porter | $400,000 |
Event 9 - Five Alive!
4 years agoWe've lost one at this final table and it is Dutchie Michiel Brummhelhuis's seat now sitting empty. Read on for a rundown of his crippling and subsequent elimination as well as the current counts for our five remaining contestants.
Michiel Eliminated (Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble)
Although these players don't need anything even resembling a premium hand to get their chips in play, as we've seen for the entirety of this 6-max event, the hand that crippled Brummelhuis was a bit of a set-up.
It began with Rep Porter opening to $34,000 and action folding to Brummelhuis in the small blind who re-popped to $105,000. Porter wasn't finished yet, however, and made it $354,000 to go.
Brummelhuis moved all-in and Porter snap-called. Porter turned over pocket kings which had the Dutchman's A♥ Q♥ in a bad spot. The board ran with no help to either hand and Porter takes a massive chunk of Michiel's stack.
In a hand shortly after action was folded to Rep Porter in the small blind and he brought it in for a raise. Brummelhuis was in the big blind and opted to move all-in, another $150,000 or so on top of Rep's $38,000 opener.
Porter made a quick call and tabled A♠ J♦ which was, once again, crushing Michiel's A♣ 4♥. The flop came Q♥ 6♦ 4♠ and Brummelhuis miraculously spikes a four. The turn is the 2h and it looks like the double is a lock, until the J♠ hit the river.
Michiel Brummelhuis is out in 6th and will receive $53,313.
New Counts
Here are the counts for the remaining five, courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com.
| Rep Porter | $1,754,000 |
| Devin Porter | $768,000 |
| John Conkright | $490,000 |
| Nathan Templeton | $380,000 |
| Anatoly Shilyuk | $300,000 |
Event 9 - Make Final Table Go Now
4 years agoThe battle for bracelet number nine is underway! Our six finalists have taken their seats in the feature table area and have already played the first few hands of the match. Read on for the starting counts as well as a quick rundown of the action thus far.
Choose Your Weapon
Here's a snapshot of the starting chip counts, courtesy of the staff right here at the World Series of Poker.
| John Conkright | $997,000 |
| Michiel Brummelhuis | $883,000 |
| Rep Porter | $732,000 |
| Nathan Templeton | $449,000 |
| Devin Porter | $449,000 |
| Anthony Shilyuk | $310,000 |
Shilyuk with the Power Move
Shortstack Anthony Shilyuk wasted no time putting his remaining chips into play, taking down a nice pot with an all-in move. Shilyuk opened from under the gun and action folds to John Conkright in the small blind. He takes the opportunity to re-pop to $82,000, and after the big blind folds Shilyuk moves all-in for right around $250,000. Porter thinks for a moment before dumping his hand in the muck.
Earn Your Rep
It seems Rep Porter came to play, which is a much better strategy than ours, coming to watch. In the third hand of the match he defended his big blind against an opening raise from chip leader John Conkright.
The flop came down J♠ J♣ 3♦ and Porter checks it. Conkright fires a continuation bet of $42,000 and Porter check-raises to $105,000. Conkright gives it a short dwell before releasing the hand and conceding the pot.
