Event 52 - Eight Is Enough 1 year ago

We might have played only ten hands since the start of play, but it didn’t take long for us to lose our first player of the day. That takes us down to just eight players with a shot at the bracelet.

Rintala Roasted! (9th)

Voitto Rintala apparently came in itching to get his stack in the middle, and it cost him most of the chips he’d accumulated over the last two days.

In the first of two hands leading to his demise, Rintala came over the top of Scott Sitron’s $60,000 opening raise for a total of $544,000. Sitron wasted no time calling with pocket queens, and he was far ahead of Rintala’s pocket eights. The board blanked and the Finn was down to his last $50,000 or so.

On the very next hand, Rintala shipped that short stack in from middle position. Jeff Courtney and Farzad Rouhani both called the bet, which was bad news for Rintala; Rouhani’s Qh 5s hit quads and sent Rintala home in ninth place. He earns his $57,712.

Run Rouhani Run!

Farzad Rouhani already has one bracelet to his credit this year. It looked like he was our least likely candidate to win today, given his incoming status as the table short stack, but he’s managed to pick up enough chips to at least have a shot.

After knocking out Voitto Rintala, Rouhani got his chips in the middle holding As Jd on a Qs 3s 2s board. Jeff Courtney had the best hand with Kd Qh, and improved further when the Qd came on the turn, but the 8s on the river gave Rouhani the nut flush and the double-up he’d been seeking.

Rouhani then opened the next hand for $80,000 and got the table to fold to him before the flop, picking him up to over $1,000,000 in chips.
