Event 51 - Leading Our Horses To Water
We’re officially back in action in the Phil Hellmuth Chases Number Twelve tournament, and in just a short time we’ve seen the field drop. Here’s a look at what’s gone down so far.
They Don’t Call Him “Stud Ed”
“Omaha” Ed Tonnellier was the first of our players to hit the rail today, and it came in a game of Stud. He got all-in on third street with K
J
4
against Steve Diano’s 8
8
4
and couldn’t improve, sending him home in 20th place with $6,686.
Voertmann Down! (19th)
In the same round of Stud that eliminated Tonnellier, HORSE bracelet winner Jens Voertmann found his way to the rail. It was Stephen Wolff who took him out, hitting a club flush against Voertmann’s mucked hand and bouncing the German in 19th place. He earns $6,686.
Verner Von Brauned! (18th)
Hoyt Verner got unlucky to get eliminated from this event, but that’s what happens when you get short-stacked. He got all-in on fourth street with a split pair of queens against Tommy Hang’s split pair of sixes, but Hang hit a third six on the river to sink Verner. He takes home $6,686 for his performance.
Money Like the Wolff! (17th)
Despite taking down Jens Voertmann and picking up chips on a few different occasions, Stephen Wolff was still the shortest stack in the field. He finally met his match in Philip Penn, and as a result we’re now down to two tables.
In Hold’em, Wolff called from the small blind to see a flop of A
8
3
. Wolff led out for the rest of his chips and Penn raised Steve Grapenthein out of the pot; Wolff showed A
5
for top pair, but Penn held 8
3
for bottom two. The rest of the board blanked and Wolff was out in 17th place, earning $6,686.
