Event 50, World Championship Pot-Limit Omaha - Live Updates

Over the past hour of heads up we've had just one big confrontation. But it was big enough to give Marty Smyth the lead,

He made it $240,000 to go but Peter Jetten had some ideas of his own reraising it up to $720,000.

Smyth made a quick call and when the K♥ 9♦ 6♠ flop was revealed Jetten made it $1,440,000. After a few moments in the tank Smyth shoved with Q♠ J♠ 10♠ 7♥ for the wrap.

Jetten called with A♠ Q♥ 10♥ 4♠ but the 10♦ turn gave Smyth the straight and the 4♦ river ensured he would double up and grab the lead.

After the hand Jetten was down to $2.25 million and Smyth up to $5.3 million. They're right there as the players have gone off on a 20-minute break.

The story of the last hour of the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship can really be told in four hands.

First Billy Argyros got crippled when he called a big river bet from Michael Mizrachi only to muck when the Grinder showed a straight.

Then the Croc got his last $235k in before the flop against Mizrachi with 10♥ 9♠ 7♠ 6♠. The Grinder held A-5-5-3 but despite the Q♥ 5♣ 9♣ flop giving him a set, it didn't hold when the 8♥ turn gave Argyros a straight and the river bricked.

Croc Bit

The very next hand Argyros got it all in again against Mizrachi and despite the fact he flopped a set with A♠ A♣ 6♥ 6♣ on the A♥ K♠ 3♣ board, the Grinder's crowd called for the gutter and he hit it when the 10♥ turn came down.

The crowd roared and as river was the meaningless 8♥ and Argyros stepped out fourth cashing $286,605.

Grinder...Grinded?

Mizarachi's attempt to keep his brother's 2007 title in the family came up short in the final big hand of the hour when he got all in against Peter Jetten holding A♠ K♣ 5♠ 3♠ against the Canadian's A♥ A♣ Q♠ 8♠. A much more reserved sounding Grinder faithfull could only watch and weep when the board ran out 9♣ 6♠ 5♦ 10♦ 4♦ and Mizrachi was done.

He takes home $331,279 for third.

Heads Up!

From 381 we're now down to two and it's Peter Jetten holding $4,250,000 against Marty Smyth's $3,335,000. Next up...the bracelet!

The crowd has shuffled back into the stands surrounding the ESPN stage and the players have followed suit. A well fed looking group, the five remaining players are chatting it up as they sit down to settle the score here.

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi had walked back up in the stands several times to check in with his crew before finally taking his seat and we were just underway when BAM - Richard Harroch got hit.

Harroch Hunted Down and Shot (5th)

We here at PL.com sincerely hope Richard Harroch enjoyed his dinner because he won't be with us for dessert after being eliminated fifth.

He'll cash $214,884 after calling a Marty Smyth $200k pre flop raise. The two went heads up to the A♦ J♣ 4♦ flop and Harroch put his tournament life on the line right away. Smyth almost beat him to the pot with a call and showed 7♦ 6♠ 4♣ 4♠ against Harroch's A♥ Q♥ 10♦ 5♣.
It's a set versus a whole whack of draws that are left hanging when the 5♦ drops on the turn and the 4♥ river gives our chip leader quads.

Apathy Doubles

Action folded to Kido Pham in the small blind and he completed. Peter “Apathy” Jetten checked in the big blind and the flop came down J♥ T♦ 6♦. Both players checked and the turn was the 3♦.

Kido took the lead with a $80,000 bet which Jetten had no problem calling. The river was the 4♣ and after a check from Pham, Jetten fired $125,000. Unfazed, Kido check-raised the pot, a little over $600,000.

Jetten was faced with calling all-in and after a seemingly endless amount of time in the tank he did just that. Jetten tabled Q♥ 5♠ 4♠ 2♦ for the straight and Kido mucked.

Kido Beatrix’d (Sixth)

Kido Pham was relieved of a large portion of his stack in the hand described above was subsequently eliminated. Three players limped and Pham popped it from the big blind. Michael Mizrachi was the only caller and the flop came down Q♦ T♥ 7♠.

Pham checked and Mizrachi fired $300,000. Pham called and the turn was the 6♣. Pham checked again and Mizrachi moved all-in. Pham would have to call all-in and he took some time to think before making a decision. In the end he opted to call and when the cards were rolled we saw he was in bad shape.

Mizrachi: TcT♠ K♦ 6♦

Pham: A♠ A♥ K♠ 5♣

Mizrachi had hit a set of tens and Pham needed to spike a set of his own or the straight to stay alive. The river was the 6♠, however, and Pham gets up to go. He takes $170,116 for his finish.

Hanlon Handled (Seventh)

Much to the dismay of the people in Tom Hanlon’s cheering section, Tom Hanlon has been eliminated. The hand began with Hanlon himself raising the pot, which represented over half his stack. Michael Mizrachi called from the big blind and the flop came down J♣ 7♣ 6♥.

Mizrachi bet out and Hanlon quickly called all-in. A♦ K♠ T♠ 9♦ for Hanlon needed some help against Grinder’s J♥ 8♦ 6♦ 2♥. The A♣ on the turn gave the all-in Hanlon some hope but the 3♥ on the river took it right back.

Tom Hanlon is out in seventh place for $134,302 and Mizrachi adds some chips to his already mountainous stack.

One for Kido

Kido Pham just took a nice pit with a big bet on the turn. Mizrachi and Billy Argyros limped in and Richard Harroch called from the small blind. Pham called in the big blind and the flop came down T♦ 5♣ 2♦ and Harroch led out for $175,000.

Pham made the call and the turn brought the 3♠. Pham paused for a moment before pushing a $650,000 across the line. Harroch had had enough and dumped his hand in the muck.

Moran Doubles; Goes Broke Nonetheless (8th)

We’re down to seven with the elimination of Brandon Moran. Moran was able to double when he moved in over the top of a Marty Smyth opener with 5♥ 5♦ Q♦ 7♥. Smyth called with A♥ Q♣ 8♥ 7♣ and the board ran 8♦ 5♠ 4♦ 2♥ A♣. Moran hit the set and was good for the double.

Not long after Moran got into a complete debacle of a hand and ended up on the rail as a result. Kido Pham opened the pot and got calls from Moran and Peter Jetten. Michael Mizrachi was in the big blind and raised the pot, what looked like $400,000.

Pham called the raise and Moran called all-in. Jetten ditched his hand and the flop came down A♦ K♠ 4♥. Mizrachi immediately moved all-in and Pham folded.

Mizrachi: A♠ A♣ K♥ 2♥

Moran: 8♣ 6♠ 5♠ 3♦

Things were looking grim for Moran and got even worse when the 4♣ hit the turn and made Mizrachi the full house. The river was the J♦ and Moran is out for $107,442.

Double for the Croc

Billy “The Croc” Argyros has just doubled up, courtesy of big-stack Michael Mizrachi. We weren’t sure which player was the Croc but we took a long shot and assumed it was the guy with the crocodile hat, two stuffed crocodiles and two crocodile card protectors.

Peter Jetten opened the pot in question with a raise to $110,000. Mizrachi flat-called and Argyros moved all-in for a total of $495,000. Jetten got out of the way but, after a bit of tanking, Mizrachi made the call.

Argyros: K♥ K♣ Q♦ 8♦

The board ran J♣ 5♣ 3♥ J♦ J♥ and Argyros makes jacks full to double through.

New Counts

The eight remaining players have just returned from the first break of the day. The blinds are up and we're ready to get back to the business at hand. Read on for some choice cuts and the new counts.

Pot for Grinder

This hand started as a four-way limped pot with Richard Harroch on the button. The flop came down K♣ 8♣ 3♣ and it was checked around. The turn was the Ts and Brandon Moran led out at the pot. Michael “Grinder” Mizrachi was the only caller and the river brought the 2♠. Moran took one last stab at the pot and, after a short dwell, Grinder made the call.

Moran showed Q♠ 9♣ 6♦ 5♠ for the straight but Mizrachi turned over J♣ T♣ T♥ 4♦ for the flopped flush. Mizrachi pulls the pot and adds the chips to his lead.

The Croc Misses Opportunity

Marty Smyth limps in and Peter Jetten does the same from the button. Mirachi gets a discount from the small blind and Billy Argyros checks his option. The flop comes down J♦ 9♦ 9♥ and everyone checks it. The turn is the Qs and Mizrachi bets out $50,000.

Argyros is the only caller and the river brings the J♠. Mizrachi fires a second $50,000 bullet and Argyros calls. When we see Argyros’s Q♦ Q♥ T♥ 6♣, top full house, we can only wonder why he wouldn’t value-raise the river at least. Mizrachi’s hand goes in the muck and Argyros pulls a pot that could have been a bit heavier.

Apathy Takes One

Billy “The Croc” Argyros limps from under the gun and it’s folded all the way around to Peter “Apathy” Jetten in the small blind. He makes the call, as does Michael Mizrachi in the big blind. The flop comes down A♣ J♥ 4♦ and both blinds check.

Argyros led out for $125,000 and only Jetten calls. The turn is the 7♠ and both players check. The river is the 8♣ and Jetten fires $60,000. Argyros tanks for a few moments before calling. Jetten turned over A♠ 3♠ 2♦ 2♣ for top pair.

The Croc’s cards go in the muck and Jetten takes the pot.

Down for the Count

We're down to eight at this final table with the elimination of Greg Hurst. Read on for his exit as well as a few key hands we've seen since then.

Hurst Cursed (9th)

We have our first elimination and it is Greg Hurst leading the way to the door. His final hand started with Michael Mizrachi opening to $75,000 and Hurst calling from the button. The blinds got out of the way and the flop came down 7♣ 6♥ 3♥.

Mizrachi led out with a bet, Hurst raised and Mizrachi moved all-in. Hurst made the call and saw he was in bad shape with A♦ A♠ 9♣ 8♥ against Mizrachi's A♣ K♥ 5♥ 4♣. Grinder had flopped the straight.

The board finished out 3♣ 6♦ and Mizrachi's hand holds up for the pot and the elimination. Greg Hurst takes $80,581 for his finish.

Four in a Row for Apathy

Canadian online phenom Peter “Apathy” Jetten came into this final table near the bottom of the counts but he’s wasted no time putting his chips to work. We just saw him pick up four pots in a row. Here’re the details on two.

Michael Mizrachi and Marty Smyth both limp and Jetten checks in the big blind. The flop comes down 9♣ 7♣ 2♦ and after a check from Apathy, Mizrachi fires $50,000. Smyth folds but Jetten makes the call. The turn is the Q♥ and both players check. The river is the K♠ and Jetten leads out for $160,000. Mizrachi thinks for a moment before folding.

Two hands later the pot is opened by Brandon Moran from the cut-off. Jetten made the call from the button and both blinds got out of the way. The flop came down K♠ T♠ 4♥. Both players checked and the turn was the T♥. Moran checked again and Jetten fired $175,000. Moran folded and Jetten takes it down.

Harroch with the All-In

This hand began with Michael Mizrachi limping, Marty Smyth doing the same from the cut-off, Richard Harroch following suit from the button and both blinds joining the party. The flop came down K♣ 9♥ 4♠ and Mizrachi fired $80,000. Harroch then moved all-in for $375,000 and it folded back to Mizrachi. He gave it some thought before releasing his hand and conceding the pot.

Chip Off the Old Block

The ESPN crew is back in the house for the conclusion of this $10,000 PLO world championship! This final table was slated to get underway at 3 p.m. but was delayed, getting started just a few minutes ago.

Peter “Apathy” Jetten arrived fashionably late and quickly let the techies mic him up before taking his seat at the felt.
