Event 48 - Final Table - Disaster!
We're down to heads-up play at the final table of the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em tournament after an insane series of eliminations punctuated by a disastrous freefall from PokerListings.com fave Alan Cutler, who was victimized by a pair of back-to-back beats of a sickening nature.
Here's now the last hour panned out in the Amazon Room (note: if you have any doubt that these low-level donkaments are crapshoots that reward luckboxes over skill, read on):
Dances With Dunzo: Costner Crashes (8th)
A short-stacked Gabe Costner gets all-in preflop against Robert Brewer, who turns up A
T
to Costner's A
9
. The board comes K
8
6
8
5
and the ten plays, sending Costner to the rail in eight place. He'll take $103,315 for his time.
Sundbo Dunbo (7th)
Ryan D'Angelo raises to $120,000 and Sverre Sundbo moves all-in over the top for $940,000. D'Angelo makes a quick call and turns up A
Q
, while Sundbo is exposed as a liar with Q
6
. The board comes A
5
4
T
5
and D'Angelo takes the pot with a pair of aces. Sundbo is eliminated in seventh place and earns $134,942 for his time.
Gerasimov Greened (6th)
Kirill Gerasimov gets all-in preflop against Ryan D'Angelo with J
J
to D'Angelo's A
Q
. The board comes 6
5
5
7
A
and D'Angelo rivers a pair of aces to send Gerasimov packing in sixth place. He'll earn $177,111 for his efforts.
The Fall of Alan Cutler (5th)
This is the sickest thing we've seen all week.
Alan Cutler is second in chips and makes a raise from the cut-off to $180,000. Alexandre Gome moves all-in over the top for his last $800,000 and Cutler makes the call, turning up A
Q
to Gomes' 7
6
. The flop comes A
Q
J
and that's where the sickness starts.
Gomes needs runner-runner to stay alive and is drawing extremely slim. The turn, however, is the 6
and Gomes is halfway there. The river is an incredible 6
and the Brazilian crowd roars as Gomes hits runner-runner to make trip sixes and double up.
On the very next hand, Cutler gets all-in preflop against Marco Johnson, who turns up a pocket pair of fives to Cutler's Q
Q
. The flop comes J
5
2
and Johnson flops a set of fives. Cutler has a flush draw, but the turn and river go 6
K
and Cutler is eliminated in a disgusting turn of events. He's out in fifth place and will take $223,497 for his efforts, and hopefully has some friends to hide the sharp objects back home in Illinois.
Brewer Distilled (4th)
Ryan D'Angelo and Robert Brewer see a flop come K
8
5
. Brewer bets out $325,000 and D'Angelo flat-calls. The turn is the 4
and D'Angelo checks to Brewer, who moves all-in D'Angelo snap calls, turning up a pocket pair of kings for top set while Brewer is behind with T
7
and needs a heart to survive.
The river is the 7
and Brewer can't get there. He's out in fourth place and earns $274,101 for his time.
D'Angelo Hall'd (3rd)
Ryan D'Angelo raises to $150,000 and Alexandre Gomes moves all-in for his last $3.5 million D'Angelo calls off his last $2.8 million with A
Q
and is racing against Gomes' pocket nines. The board comes 9
8
7
5
3
and Gomes takes the pot with a set of nines.
Ryan D'Angelo is eliminated in third place and earns $326,812.
Heads-Up!
We're now heads-up between Alexandre Gomes and Marco Johnson, with Gomes holding a $6.7 million to $2.55 million lead over his rival. Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion!

Event 48 - Final Table - Slooow Play
After Dan Rome's elimination in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em final table the action has slowed considerably, with flops in the minority and most of the pots falling to a single raiser.
About the only thing that has gone on in the last hour is a hand between Ryan D'Angelo and Gabe Costner in which both players saw a flop come 7
6
2
. Costner checked from the big blind and D'Angelo bet out $80,000. Costner made the call and the the turn was the Q
. Both players checked and the river was the K
.
Again Costner checked and D'Angelo bet out $200,000. Costner mulled his options before making the call and turning up K-6 for two pair. D'Angelo had T
9
for the flopped flush and it was good to take the pot.
