Alexandre the Great: Gomes Wins Event 48!
Alexandre Gomes has claimed the bracelet for Event 48 in a quick succession of block-buster hands. In the first one Marco Johnson bet $280,000 from the button and Gomes thought for a couple minutes and then announced he was all-in. Johnson snap-called and it was easy to see why as soon as the players revealed their hands:
Johnson: A
A
Gomes: A

Gomes was in a world of hurt as the dealer prepared to deal the board. Incredibly it came K
T
3
T
J
! The spiked ten on the turn gave Gomes trip tens and eventually the pot. After the hand Gomes was the chip leader with $4.8 million to Johnson's $4.4 million.
Several hands later Gomes bet $300,000 and Johnson moved all-in over the top for $3 million. Gomes called and this time was ahead from the start with A
K
versus Johnson's Q
J
. The board came 4

A

to give Gomes the pot and the bracelet. The Brazilian fans in the audience go wild!
Congratulations to Gomes who will receive $770,540 for coming in first place. Meanwhile Johnson will get a not-to-shabby $491,273 for coming in second.

Event 48 - Final Table - Marco On Top
Marco Johnson has taken the chip lead over from Alex Gomes thanks to a nicely timed double-up. So far he's been playing pretty solidly and has gradually been winning pots to put at an advantage.
Jacked Up!
Johnson raised to $125,000 on the button and Gomes re-raised from the blind, but before he declared a figure, Johnson moved all-in with Gomes making the call. Johnson showed J
J
and Gomes had A
Q
so we were off to the races. The flop came out K
2
9
reducing Gomes to four outs, and the turn was the J
making Johnson a set and now Gomes had three outs, the river was the 7
and Johnson became the chip leader, doubling up to over $5,000,000 and leaving Gomes with a little over $4,000,0000.
More For Johnson...
Gomes raised from the button and Johnson called. The flop was K
8
J
and Johnson check/called a $400,000 bet. Both players checked the T
and then Gomes fired out $500,000 on the 3
river. Gomes quickly mucked and Johnson was forced to showed T
8
for the winning hand.
And More Still...
Johnson raised to $210,000 and they saw a flop of A
8
4
, Gomes checked and Johnson bet $310,000. Gomes called. Both players checked the K
turn and the T
. Johnson showed K
7
and Gomes mucked. The Brazilian is now much shorter stacked than his opponent and might have to resort to big moves again if he's to have a chance of winning the bracelet.
