Event 45 – The Biggest Nguyen Yet!
Las Vegas legend Scotty Nguyen has done it! It all went down in a round of Hold’em with Scotty Nguyen holding A
T
in the pocket and getting Michael DeMichelle to commit his remaining chips with A
3
.
The Nguyen supporters gave a rousing cheer as the players threw their cards down on the table and the dealer prepared to deal the potentially tournament ending board.
The flop came A
9
6
and both players paired their ace. All Nguyen needed to do was dodge the treaded trey. The turn came 7
and Nguyen was within one card of his fifth bracelet and being the first player in history to get their name engraved on the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.
The dealer flipped over… the 4
!
The crowd went crazy and Nguyen has indeed pulled it off. He will receive $1.9 million and the respect and admiration of all his peers. DeMichelle put in a valiant effort and will receive $1.2 million for second place.
With his big victory Nguyen will rocket to 7th place on the all-time money list right above T.J. Cloutier and just below Phil Ivey. Fine company, indeed.
Congratulations to Nguyen and all the players that laid 50 big ones on the line in pursuit of one of poker’s most prestigious titles.

Event 45 - The Moment of Truth
After a deadlock that seemed like it might never break - and which took us past the 300-hand mark of the final table - we’re finally down to heads-up play. This game could end at any point.
Lindgren Left Out! (3rd)
Like so many other HORSE players before him in this event, it was the deadly Stud round that did Erick Lindgren in. Two hands in particular saw E-Dog whittled down from what wasn’t a very substantial stack in the first place, both against chip leader Scotty Nguyen.
On the first hand, Lindgren completed with the K
showing and Nguyen raised with the 9
up. Lindgren check-called fourth street, which gave him the 3
, and check-folded fifth street when the 7
came.

Lindgren can't believe he went out in third place.
On the second hand, with under a million chips left in his stack, Lindgren again came in for a completion, this time with the 8
showing. Nguyen popped it with the 9
up, and Lindgren called. Lindgren called Nguyen’s bet on fourth and got all-in on fifth street for his last $575,000 with the boards reading:
Lindgren: (A
8
)8
7
K
Nguyen: (x-x)9
Q
2
One of Nguyen’s hole cards was a nine, giving him the highest pair. Unfortunately for Lindgren, he bricked out on the last two streets and couldn’t beat Nguyen’s pair of nines. That left him out in third place, earning him a whopping $781,440 for a fine performance.
