Event 44 - Over! Greenwood is Champion! 1 year ago

This match is over! At one point during this final table Max Greenwood was the shortstack and Rene Mouritsen the leader. Oh how the times have changed! Once we reached heads-up the two were evenly matched chip-wise but it didn't take long for Greenwood to assume control.

Going into the final hand Greenwood had right around a two to one chip advantage over Mouritsen. Rene was on the button and made it $120,000. Greenwood called in the big blind and the flop came down Js 5d 4s. Greenwood checked and Mouritsen fired $175,000

Greenwood then check-raised to $500,000 and after a lot of thought Mouritsen moved all-in. Greenwood snap-called and tabled Ah Jd. Mouritsen was in terrible shape with Kh Jh. The board finished out 4d 2s and just like that this match was over!

Canadian Max Greenwood takes $693,392 and his first bracelet. Rene Mouritsen takes $445,524 for his third runner-up finish in two years.

Event 44 - Final Table - Heads-Up! 1 year ago

We're down to the final two in this event with the elimination of Albert Iversen in third place. Blinds are high and Max Greenwood and Rene Mouritsen haven't showed much fear so we may be in for a quickie.

Read on for new counts, that last elimination and the key heads-up hands so far.

Mano a Mano

Here's a look at the new counts for the final two, courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com.

Max Greenwood $3,475,000
Rene Mouritsen
$3,275,000

To the Max!

Max Greenwood isn’t making it easy for Rene Mouritsen and the two are near-even after this hand. Mouritsen limped his button and Greenwood checked in the big blind. The flop came down Jd 9s 4d and Greenwood led out for $50,000.

Mouritsen made the call and the turn was the Jh. Greenwood bet $50,000 again but this time Mouritsen raised, making it $125,000 total. Greenwood made the call and fired $200,000 on the 4h river.

Mouritsen thought it over for a moment before ditching his hand.

Queens are Good

Rene Mouritsen just picked up a sizeable pot after three-betting before the flop and slowing down on a scary board. Greenwood opened to $110,000 from the button and Mouritsen re-popped to $350,000 from the big blind.

The flop came down Ah 7h 5d and Mouritsen continuation bet $350,000. Greenwood made the call and the turn brought the Kd. Both players checked and the river was the Ad. Two more checks and Mouritsen shows pocket queens which is enough to earn him the pot.

We’re not 100% but we think Greenwood showed pocket nines as the pot was pushed.

Albert canned.

Iversen Alan’d (Third)

Albert Iversen is out in third, a victim of the loose cannon also known as Rene Mouritsen. His final hand began with Iversen raising his button and Mouritsen re-raising from the big blind. Iversen flat-called and the flop came down 8s 5s 2s.

Mouritsen thought for a moment before moving all-in. Iversen only took a second before calling and the hands were rolled. 5d 5c for Iversen needed to hold up against Mouritsen’s drawing As 3c. The turn was the Ts, nailing Mouritsen’s flush, and the river was the Qh, failing to fill up Iversen’s full house.

Albert Iversen is out in third place for $267,314.
