Event 42 - Final Table !
The veterans of the poker scene who have seen off their opposition effectively have gathered once more to play out to the bracelet.
It is sometimes said of players that this could prove their last chance to pick up a bracelet, and with many of these seniors advanced in years, it has never been more applicable than now.
Just prior to the commencement of the final, the players and watching crowd were "treated" to an aging elvis impersonator belting out "Johnny B Good" in full jump suit regalia.
What he lacked in talent, he made up for in enthusiasm, and although many of the crowd appeared relieved as he tunelessly screeched out the last few bars, we can only hope today's line-up can match the effort this geriatric Elvis mustered.
The early stages of the event saw very few contested pots, with preflop raises from Dan Lacourse, Charles Wood and Marty Wilson enough to take down the pots but then, that all changed!
Mad Marty Mauled
Marty Wilson shoved over the top of a Fred Berger raise for his entire $450,000 stack. Berger shuffled and fidgeted uncomfortably, before finally announcing a call!
He was holding A-Q to Marty's 8-8 and we were off to the races!
The flop seemed to vindicate Berger's call, the dealer peeling off K-Q-Q to give him a decisive advantage, which he didn't surrender on the J and 7 turn.
This made the englishman the first elimination of the final table, Marty Wilson OUT, eliminated in 9th place, winning $34,312.
