Event 17, Level 10: Young Wins a Roller-Coaster! 1 year ago

It was a roller-coaster heads-up match that saw Jason Young take Mike Schwartz to the very brink of elimination before letting him back in the match. But in the end Young managed to right his sinking ship and claim his first WSOP bracelet with a victory in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout!

Here's the story from the final hour of play:

Young Cripples Schwartz!

Schwartz, having ground up a slight chip advantage, limps in and sees Young raise to $400,000. Schwartz makes the call and the flop comes Js Th 4d, prompting a $750,000 wager from Young. Schwartz again calls and the turn is the 4c. Young now moves all-in and Schwartz tanks for a few moments before telling his rival he puts him on A-T and making the call.

Schwartz has Jd 8d for top pair but Young has As Jh for top-top and after the river is the 3h, Young thinks he has won the tournament. In fact, he's doubled through Schwartz to the point that his rival cannot even post the blind without going all-in.

Schwartz Doubles Repeatedly!

Schwartz gets all-in over the next three hands and manages to double up all three times, holding Jc Th to Young's As 3h, 9c 3h to Young's As Qd and Ac Ts against Young's Ad 7h.

Then, a few hands later he gets all-in pre-flop with Kd Kh against Schwartz's 6h 6c and the board comes Ad 8s 5s Jh 3h, giving Schwartz another double-up and bringing his stack up to $3.4 million of the $10 million in play.

Young Closes It Down!

Schwartz raises to $700,000 and Young puts him all-in. Schwartz makes the call and shows 4h 4s to Young's Ac Jd. The flop comes 8d 6d 2h and Schwartz maintains the lead in the race. Then the turn is the Ah and Young hits an ace to take the lead. The river is the Qc and Young's pair of aces takes it, winning the pot and the tournament on the turn of a card!

For the win, Young books $329,872, while Schwartz takes $209,528 for second. Young also earns his first WSOP bracelet and an exclusive PokerListings.com interview, which we'll have on the site by the end of the night.

Congratulations to all who cashed and to all a good night!

Event 17 - Level 9 - Heads-Up One Time! 1 year ago

We've played an hour of largely inconsequential heads-up play at the final table of the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout event. Here's the action from the tournament floor over that span.

Good Fold!

On the third hand of heads-up play, Mike Schwartz raises to $300,000 and Jason Young re-raises to a cool million. Schwartz matches the wager and the flop comes Qh 8c 2h. Young bets out another $1 million and Schwartz again calls. The turn is the 4c and Young instantly moves all-in.

Schwartz goes into the tank for a long time before laying the hand down and Young turns up a pair of red eights for the set. Schwartz claims to have folded the case eight, but whatever the case Young takes first blood.

Schwartz Fires Back!

Young limps-in and Schwartz checks his option. The flop comes Qs 3d 2h. Both players check and the turn is the 4s, prompting Schwartz to bet out $400,000. Young flat-calls and the river is the 2d and Schwartz instantly moves all-in.

Now it's Young's turn to tank and he does, mulling his options as Schwartz dons a pair of Fossilman-esque sunglasses. Eventually he folds and Schwartz takes the pot.

Young Pushes!

Young raises to $250,000 and Schwartz makes the call. The flop comes Kc 8d 3c and Schwartz checks. Young moves all-in and Schwartz ruminates for a few minutes before laying it down as Young tells the rail he had jacks.

Schwartz Gets Some!

Schwartz limps and Jason Young raises to $300,000. Schwartz makes the call and the flop comes 5d 3c 2s. Both players check and the turn is the 7c, prompting more checks from our combatants. The river is the 5c and Schwartz bets out $500,000. Young makes the call, tabling Ad Td but Schwartz has As Kc for the better kicker and takes the pot.

Chip Counts!

Jason Young $5.6 million
Mike Schwartz
$4.4 million
