Event 17, Level 10: Young Wins a Roller-Coaster!
It was a roller-coaster heads-up match that saw Jason Young take Mike Schwartz to the very brink of elimination before letting him back in the match. But in the end Young managed to right his sinking ship and claim his first WSOP bracelet with a victory in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout!
Here's the story from the final hour of play:
Young Cripples Schwartz!
Schwartz, having ground up a slight chip advantage, limps in and sees Young raise to $400,000. Schwartz makes the call and the flop comes J
T
4
, prompting a $750,000 wager from Young. Schwartz again calls and the turn is the 4
. Young now moves all-in and Schwartz tanks for a few moments before telling his rival he puts him on A-T and making the call.
Schwartz has J
8
for top pair but Young has A
J
for top-top and after the river is the 3
, Young thinks he has won the tournament. In fact, he's doubled through Schwartz to the point that his rival cannot even post the blind without going all-in.
Schwartz Doubles Repeatedly!
Schwartz gets all-in over the next three hands and manages to double up all three times, holding J
T
to Young's A
3
, 9
3
to Young's A
Q
and A
T
against Young's A
7
.
Then, a few hands later he gets all-in pre-flop with K
K
against Schwartz's 6
6
and the board comes A
8
5
J
3
, giving Schwartz another double-up and bringing his stack up to $3.4 million of the $10 million in play.
Young Closes It Down!
Schwartz raises to $700,000 and Young puts him all-in. Schwartz makes the call and shows 4
4
to Young's A
J
. The flop comes 8
6
2
and Schwartz maintains the lead in the race. Then the turn is the A
and Young hits an ace to take the lead. The river is the Q
and Young's pair of aces takes it, winning the pot and the tournament on the turn of a card!
For the win, Young books $329,872, while Schwartz takes $209,528 for second. Young also earns his first WSOP bracelet and an exclusive PokerListings.com interview, which we'll have on the site by the end of the night.
Congratulations to all who cashed and to all a good night!

Event 17 - Level 9 - Heads-Up One Time!
We've played an hour of largely inconsequential heads-up play at the final table of the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout event. Here's the action from the tournament floor over that span.
Good Fold!
On the third hand of heads-up play, Mike Schwartz raises to $300,000 and Jason Young re-raises to a cool million. Schwartz matches the wager and the flop comes Q
8
2
. Young bets out another $1 million and Schwartz again calls. The turn is the 4
and Young instantly moves all-in.
Schwartz goes into the tank for a long time before laying the hand down and Young turns up a pair of red eights for the set. Schwartz claims to have folded the case eight, but whatever the case Young takes first blood.
Schwartz Fires Back!
Young limps-in and Schwartz checks his option. The flop comes Q
3
2
. Both players check and the turn is the 4
, prompting Schwartz to bet out $400,000. Young flat-calls and the river is the 2
and Schwartz instantly moves all-in.
Now it's Young's turn to tank and he does, mulling his options as Schwartz dons a pair of Fossilman-esque sunglasses. Eventually he folds and Schwartz takes the pot.
Young Pushes!
Young raises to $250,000 and Schwartz makes the call. The flop comes K
8
3
and Schwartz checks. Young moves all-in and Schwartz ruminates for a few minutes before laying it down as Young tells the rail he had jacks.
Schwartz Gets Some!
Schwartz limps and Jason Young raises to $300,000. Schwartz makes the call and the flop comes 5
3
2
. Both players check and the turn is the 7
, prompting more checks from our combatants. The river is the 5
and Schwartz bets out $500,000. Young makes the call, tabling A
T
but Schwartz has A
K
for the better kicker and takes the pot.
