Day 3 Live Updates
Winnar! And That's the Guth!
5 years agoIn one of the most raucous final tables we have seen, John Guth has taken the bracelet, $363,216 and the remarkably easy-to-say title of world champion in Omaha Hi-Lo Split Eight-or-Better.
Guth checked a call from Robert Stevanovski to see the Q♥ 9♠ 8♣ flop. John checked, Robert bet $80,000, John raised and Stevanovski called for the rest of his chips.
Guth flipped up 9♥ 9♦ T♦ 3♥ for a flopped set of nines, while Robert needed a jack to make a gutshot. The board finished up 8♥ 5♠ to fill John's house and send Stevanovski home with $218,456 for second place.
Guth went insane, jumping and crying "Is this real? Can I touch it??" while fondling the pile of cash and championship bracelet.
"I'm gonna get a Rolex right now!" he yelled, surrounded by shouting friends and family. It's about time, John.
Omaha -- A Magical Place
5 years agoFanfare
Both players have a loud and loyal showing at the final table. Robert Stevanovski's camp keeps shouting such timeless marvels as: "I've got the nuts!" and "Keep it in your pants, baby!" to encourage their man.
John Guth's companions yell the occasional "Sir Scoop!" and "Yeah, baby! Tens beat nines! Good read!" The poker gods smile on spectator sports.
The 200-Handed Omaha Monster
Omaha is a game of much folding and splitting; but hand 200 had a little more action. Robert Stevanovski raised to $120,000 for a call from John Guth. The 5♣ 6♠ K♠ brought another bet from Robert and a check-call from John.
The turned 4♣ elicited another $120,000 pot-shot from Robert and another check-call from John, to bring the T♥ river. Both players checked, with Robert showing kings and tens for the high and A-6 for the low, to bring his stack to $1,800,000 to Guth's $1,000,000.
John Still On
After some tight play and one chopped pot, John Guth raised pre-flop. Robert Stevanovski called to see the 5♣ K♦ 2♠ flop, then check-raised John's $50,000 bet to $100,000, which Guth called.
The turned 3♥ brought a check-call from Robert and a $100,000 bet from John, as did the A♥ river. Stevanovski showed trip fives; but Guth flipped 6-4 to Sir Scoop-a-lot the pot.
The Winds of Omaha
5 years agoNo Straight!
Those were the relieved words of John Guth on seeing Robert Stevanovski's cards. Most of Guth's chips were in the pot when the last card hit the 6♠ 8♠ K♦ 9♥ J♣ board; and he was crestfallen when Robert declared he held a straight.
Robert showed 6-7, however -- which don't quite make it -- and Guth's pocket nines for a turned set were suddenly good. We know, Robert -- Omaha is hard. That puts the chips about even.
Change of Fortune
Robert Stevanovski pulled ahead by a roughly two-to-one margin after John Guth spent serious time in the tank to finally call a $100,000 bet on the J-7-9-4-9 river. Robert showed J-9 in the hole for a boat ride through Omaha.
Rushing Robert had pulled even a little earlier with a pair of tens to Guth's A-6.
Wilted Flores - David Flores Kicked in 3rd ($148,708)
5 years agoRenyard Outfoxed - Max Reynard Out 4th ($101,332)
5 years agoJunk for Jameson - Greg Jameson Finishes 5th ($75,012)
5 years agoRobert Stevanovski raises pre-flop and Greg Jameson calls. The flop comes 6♣ Q♥ 7♦ and Jameson bets and Stevanovski calls. The turn is 7♠ and Jameson bets and Stevanovski calls. The final card is A♠ and Jameson bets the last of his chips. Stevanovski calls and shows A-Q for the high which was good enough to take the pot.
Jameson has been eliminated.
Jensen Crushed - Randy Jensen Eliminated 6th ($59,220)
5 years agoMichael Pollowitz Busts 7th ($44,744)
5 years agoHansen headed home!
5 years agoBart Hansen is out eighth and will cash $32,900.
He flopped a pair of five, but lost to Randy Jensen's turned pair of sevens. No low and Hansen's day was done!
We're down to seven and John Guth holds a tenious chip lead.
Sir Scoopalot!
5 years agoJohn "Sir Scoopalot" Guth is doing just that.
He picked up a massive pot off Randy Jensen with a board reading 2♦ J♠ 7♦ 6♥ 2♦. Guth Held A-3 for the low and managed to make the best hand as well.
A few hands later he picked up three quarters of a pot from Jensen again.
Both players had A-2 for the low, but on a board with three clubs, Guth's A♣ 2♣ nut flush was good for the high hand!
Players have headed off on a short break and PokerListings.com will have all the action when they come back!
Grove Stands!
5 years agoJim Grove is the first casualty of this final table. He was eliminated ninth by David Flores. Grove check called $15,000 on the 8♥ A♠ 5♦ flop, but shipped the last of his chips on the 4♥ turn.
Flores called with 2-3 for the turned wheel and while Grove had a flush draw, the 10♦ did not complete it.
He'll pick up $23,688 for ninth.
