Event 31, World Championship Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em - Live Updates

Match 2 had barely begun but Dan "Rekrul" Schreiber has put Mark Muchnik out of his misery and taken down this year's Heads-Up Championship! It lasted only eleven hands with Schreiber running the show every step of the way.

It seemed like Muchnik had recognized the passiveness that had been his undoing in the last match and came out firing this time around. But it was to no avail since in hands ten and eleven Schreiber crippled then felted his out-classed opponent.

Muchnik Crippled

Schreiber opened the pot to $70k and was raised to $420k by Muchnik. Dan made the call and the flop came J♥ 8♦ 3♦. Muchnik shoved all-in and Schreiber made the call. Q♠ J♣ for Rekrul was in the lead but would need to hold up against the K♦ 9♦ of Muchnik.

Mark was looking for a diamond, a king or some kind of runner-runner straight but after the turn and river came 3♠ A♥ Dan's jacks were good for the pot.

The two were quite even in chips at the beginning of the hand and it was unclear who was the all-in player. After a countdown we saw that Muchnik did indeed have a few chips left over to ship in at the next available opportunity.

The Next Available Opportunity

That chance came on the very next hand when he moved all-in for the rest of his recently-depleted stack. Schreiber made a quick call with K♣ 2♠ and was in the lead against Muchnik's Q♥ 8♠. The flop brought a king and Muchnik would need some serious help going to the turn. The board bricked out though, eliminating Mark Muchnik in second place for $230,300 and making Dan "Rekrul" Schreiber our new Heads-Up Champion!

Rekrul will take $425,594 back home to Seou, Korea. After the match, when asked what his plans for the night were he replied, "I want to go to sleep, that was the most boring match ever!" Check back later tonight for the interview I did with Rekrul. It'll be up once all the other tournaments are put to bed for the night.

Dan Schreiber has taken down the first match in this best-of-three finale. After taking a big hit early on, Schreiber took down a big pot to pull even and then proceeded to dismantle his opponent, taking down pot after pot.

In the final hand of the match Schreiber had accumulated a massive chip lead and opened the pot to $75k. With less than half a million in his stack Mark made the call and saw the flop of 9♥ 4♦ 2♦. Two checks and the dealer turned over the 7♠ on the turn. Schreiber bet out $100k and was raised to $375,000 by Muchnik.

The river was the T♣ and Schreiber put Muchnik all-in for his last $30,000 or so. Schreiber tabled K♣ 7♣ for a pair of sevens which were good for the win in match 1.

Players are on a short break to regroup and will be back for match 2 in a few minutes. 

It also seems that there was some confusion about the decision to make this a best of three match. When the two players originally sat down at the felt it was announced that although this was originally a first to two affair, the decision had been made to make it a single elimination match instead.

Since Schreiber was sitting on an almost five to one chip lead when the announcement came in saying that the it was, after all, a best to two deal, he and his cheering section were not happy. 

These two titans are back and ready for the clash. Starting the match with stacks of $2.56 million and blinds of $10k/$20k they are deep enough to play some serious poker. These players set the tone of the match early though as they demonstrated no reluctance in putting their chips at risk. This bracelet will be decided by a best of three style structure so two more matched will be played out after this one's over.

Early Lead for Muchnik

Schreiber opened this pot to $50,000 and was re-popped to $200,000 from Muchnik. The call was made and they saw a flop of A-9-8 with two diamonds. Muchnik lead out with $450,000 and got a call from Dan. The turn was the 3♦, putting three diamonds on the board, and Muchnik reached deep, pushing three quarters of a million dollars into the middle.

After a bit of thought Schreiber released his hand and conceded the pot to his opponent. With that victory Muchnik is off to a early lead in the match.

Another One for Muchnik

On a board of Q♥ J♥ 2♦ A♥ Schreiber bet out $100,000. Muchnik made the call and the river brought the 2♣. This time Schreiber checked and Muchnik bet the $100,000. Muchnik made the call but mucked his hand when Muchnik tabled A♣ 7♣ for two pair.

Schreiber Back to Even

Dan Schreiber just took down a massive pot to pull near even with Mark Muchnik. Schreiber opened the pot to $50,000 and got a call from his opponent. The flop came J♠ T♥ T♦ and Dan led out. Mark made the call and the turn was the K♣. Dan bet out again, $250,000 this time and was again called down by Muchnik. The river was the 6♦ and Schreiber went big, pushing $750,000 into the middle. Muchnik made the call and was sick to see Schreiber turn over A♦ Q♦ for the Broadway straight.

Schreiber Running Fast

Dan Schreiber has taken control of this match, bullying his opponent and picking up the majority of the pots. He's now up to about a four to one chip lead.

The last match in this event has concluded, giving us our two battle-hardened heads-up finalists. The last skirmish of the semi-finals saw Keith Block, a Supernova status player on PokerStars, square off against Mark Muchnik.

These two were playing at a measured pace with not too many big confrontations. Muchnik built up a solid lead throughout the first stage of the match and put a big dent in Block's stack in a hand that set the stage for his eventual downfall. Here's the action leading up to the the end:

Mucho for Muchnik, Chips off the old Block

Muchnik bet out $100k on a flop of T♥ 9♣ 6♥ and got a call from Block. The turn brought the 7♣ and another $100,000 bet from Muchnik. Another relatively quick call from Block and we saw the 7♠ on the river. 

Muchnik checked it back to Block who paused for a few seconds of thought before reaching for chips and pushing $260,000 into the middle. Muchnik was clearly confused by the bet and tanked for some time before making the call. Block pointed at Muchnik although he was technically the one who should have to show first.

Muchnik turned over K♦ T♦ for two pair and Block took one last look at his hand before tossing it in the muck. "Nice bet, that was a tough call," commented Muchnik as he raked the pot. Block was left with about $350,000 after this hand. 

What a Cooler

It seems like Muchnik is the one getting the better of it in turns of starting hands. He has moved in twice in row, pushing Block out of the hand each time and whittling his stack further to the felt.

Block moved in on the next hand and after Muchnik folded he threw his cards disgustedly into the muck, indicating he may have picked up a hand. Not long after, Muchnik folded his small blind and Block turned over A-Q. Right place but wrong time.

Death Blow

Block was down to less than $200k going into the final hand of the match and moved all-in from the button. Muchnik took his time before making the call and turning over K♣ 8♦. He was trailing the A♥ T♥ of Block going to the flop. 

The dealer turned over K♥ 6♠ J♥, putting Muchnik out in front but giving Block the flush draw. The turn was the 3♦ and the river was the 7♦, failing to improve Block and eliminating him in third place for $128,968.

Heads-Up Home-Stretch

With the conclusion of these two matches we have out finalists! Mark Muchnik and Dan Schreiber will be back at 10pm to duke it out, old school-style, for the bracelet and the prestige of becoming this year's WSOP Heads-Up Champion!

Dan "The Man" Schreiber has defeated Vanessa "The Woman" Selbst to advance to the Heads-Up Championship Final Table!

It was only the 15th hand of the match and Schreiber raised $30k pre flop only to see Vanessa call. The flop came down 10♠ 5♠ 4♣ and Dan bet out $50,000. Selbst pushed it up to $200K and Schreiber made the gutsy call. The turn revealed the flush draw completing 8♠.

Schreiber bet $400K, Selbst moved all in and Schreiber made the call flipping over J♠ 3♠ for that very same flush I was just talking about.

Selbst had top pair on the flop with her 10♥ 9♥, but she ws drawing dead on the river.

Vanessa will cash $128,968.

We have a final four and it will include Keith Block as he defeated Steve Sarrafzadeh just minutes ago.

It was one of those heads up hands no mere mortal could avoid as Sarrafzadeh got it all in with J♥ J♦ against Block's K♠ K♣.

Blanks on the board ended Steve's day and he'll head to the cage to pick up $46,060.

The final four will include Block, Mark Muchnik, Vanessa Selbst and Daniel Schreiber.

Jared Davis is done and Mark Muchnik moves on.

Muchnik called Davis' all in bet holding A♣ 2♥. Davis had only Q♣ 7♣ and was beaten when the flop came A♠ 8♣ 3♣. Running threes on the turn and river sealed Davis' fate and he'll cash $46,060.

The final match of the round continues between Steve Sarrafzadeh and Keith Block.

PokerListings.com watched as it almost came to an end in a recent hand. Sarrafzadeh went all in for his last $210K with the board reading K♠ 7♥ 6♦ 9♥ 2♥ forcing Block to fold.

Sarrafzadeh showed the J♣ 3♣ for the stone cold bluff! 

The two matches left in the round have tightened up.

Mark Muchnik has a $200K lead on Jared Davis and Keith Block leads Steve Sarrafzadeh by close to $600K.

She took a strangle hold over her heads up match with Shannon Shorr early and took it home by pushing Shorr all in pre flop holding the dominating A♣ 10♠ over Shorr's A♠ 2♠.

She turned a ten on a final board reading K♥ J♥ 3♦ 10♦ 6♠ and ended Shorr's hopes for the heads up championship.

He limps to the cage, leg cast and all, to pick up $$46,060.

Schreiber checked the J♣ 10♣ 5♠ flop and called a $40,000 bet from Toto. The turn was the Q♣ and Shreiber check-called again as Leonidas made it $150,000 to go.

When the river came the 6♠, Schreiber checked again and Leonidas pushed all in.

Schreiber made the call and took down Leonidas' J♦ 9♦ with his own A♥ A♣.

Toto takes $46,060 back to Dorothy and Aunty Em!

Keith Block has rushed into the chip lead over Steve Sarrafzadeh, but it's only a slight lead.

Davis takes over

Mark Muchnik had a slim lead over Jared Davis until Davis picked up pocket rockets.

Davis pumped $25,000 into the pot pre flop and got the call. The flop came down quite scary with the K♦ Q♦ J♦ and both players let it go.

The turn came the 4♣ and Davis swung a $25,000 bat at it. Muchnik called and when the river came the 5♠ Davis bet $50K. Muchnik called again but mucked when Davis turned over the A♦ A♥.

Davis moved into the lead.

Selbst leads

Vanessa Selbst has control over her match with Shannon Shorr. She has a better than 2-1 chip that began building when she won a $180,000 pot off Shorr early by flopping two pair.

Selbst held the 9♠ 6♣ when the flop came A♦ 9♦ 6♦. Shorr bet out, Selbst came over the top and Shannon just called.

Both players checked the K♣ river, but Selbst bet out $50K on the $4s river. Shorr called but mucked when he saw her hand.

Toto Leonidas also has a slight lead over Daniel Schreiber.
