Day 3 Live Updates

Alabama Cowboy Takes It - Hoyt Corkins Wins Event 30

Hoyt Corkins

It's all over. No surprise here but Hoyt Corkins has won Event 30. He was awarded the bracelet by Doyle Brunson himself. Terrence Chan has finished second, after a final hand that saw the Pride of Vancouver (that's Chan) raise and The Alabama Slamma (that's Corkins) move all-in. Chan (who, as we've all been reminded by classy Joy Miller, is not Johnny Chan), tanked for a few minutes but made the call, showing A 4 to Corkins' K T.

The flop came 9 8 8, keeping Chan in the lead, but the turn was the K to give the cowboy the lead. The river card was the 6 and Corkins had the check-mark, winning his second WSOP bracelet and $515,065, as well as a prestigious PokerListings.com interview. Chan earns $287,345, which he will presumably not spend on a lifetime subscription to Playboy Magazine

Congratulations to both finalists, and to the WSOP for yet another great tournament hidden from public view (that last bit was sarcasm, folks).

Confirmed - Heads Up!

We're heads up between Terrance Chan and Hoyt Corkins inside the Harrah's shroud.

William Lin was eliminated third and will take home $196,758 after playing A J as well as can be expected and losing anyway.

When the flop came A Q 3 and Terrance Chan checked, Lin bet out.  Chan came over the top all in and Lin quickly called. Chan had only the A 6, but the turn 6 gave him two pair and the 7 was a dud, ending Lin's tournament life.

Alan Sass went out fourth when he pushed with A K and got the call from Hoyt Corkins holding A 10.

Sass stayed ahead on a flop pf 9 8 7 but Corkin's flopped the up and down straight draw. Sass doged a bullet with the A turn, but was shot down by the 10 river.

He cashed $132,471 for fourth

Break and Chip Count

Players are currently on break for 20 minutes. Seems like a good time for a chip count from www.worldseriesofpoker.com (although you already know Hoyt Corkins is dominating):

Vande-Busted - Kelly Vande-Mheen Eliminated 5th ($96,431)

Kelly Vande-Mheen raises from the small blind but Hoyt Corkins re-raises from the big blind. Vande-Mheen calls and we see a flop K 7 2 and Vande-Mheen moves all-in. Corkins immediately calls and shows A A. Vande Mheen has 7 6 for middle pair. The turn comes 4 and the river comes J.

Corkins has augmented his giant stack and Vande-Mheen is out of the tournament.

Update Summary for Event 30 Day 3

Sass vs. Chan

Alan Sass and Terrence Chan are involved in a pot where they see a flop of 9 5 6. Both players check and the turn card comes 6. Both players check again and the river comes 6. Sass makes a large bet and Chan eventually calls. Chan has pocket deuces for the full house while Sass has J 8 for nothing. Chan Takes the pot.

Sleeping Giant

Chip Leader Hoyt Corkins has been quiet in the first few hands letting some of the smaller stacks knock each other down. Don't expect this to last as Corkins will likely start throwing his weight around soon.

Hoyt Corkins

It's final table day and today it's all about Hoyt "Alabama Cowboy" Corkins. Corkins comes into today with $1,300,000 and a thirst for another bracelet. He should have a good fight on his hand with Alan Sass and Terrence Chan breathing down his neck, however. Here's a look at the complete chip stacks courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com:
