Event 21, No-Limit Hold'em Shootout - Live Updates
Day 2 Live Updates
Don's the Don
5 years agoIt's finally official -- the one-hour delay has caught up to our reporting; and Don Baruch has been declared the winner of the No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, a Corum watch, $264,107 in cash and a WSOP bracelet. We told you so.
The hand? A short-stacked Jared Davis was all-in pre-flop on the button with A♠ 5♣ to Baruch's K♣ Q♠. Things got rough for Davis on the Q♦ 9♦ 9♣ flop, which gave Baruch two pair -- but they got worse with the turned lady, a Q♥.
The queen filled Baruch's house, which was undisturbed by the rivered 8♥. Baruch's family, watching inside the tent, were speechless with excitement, but Baruch Jr. did manage to get his mitts on the dough pretty much immediately.
Only Here: Baruch's the Duke!
5 years agoThat's right! While other news outlets were watching hour-old webcasts, PokerListings.com was interviewing the winner of the No-Limit Hold'em Shootout: Don Baruch. We haven't seen the hand yet (due to the intervening tent), but we walked him to the tournament payout desk.
Baruch earns $264,107 and a handsome bracelet for first place, while Jared Davis takes home $149,263. Look for our exclusive winner's interview with Baruch in the wee hours of the morning. We'll have final hand details for you when official sources catch up.
Scoopseville! No More Negreanu!
5 years agoYes, ladies and gentlemen -- the webcast may be showing tight three-way action (no, not THAT webcast); but this reporter just saw Daniel Negreanu at the cashier's office.
The facts? Daniel is out kids -- in third place for a payout of $295,245. You read it here first, kids.
Tent Moves
5 years agoWinning Dinner
Everyone is rewarded for their play so far with a forty-five minute dinner break. Just enough time to slam three vodka crantinis, the head of a roast pig and a banana split in a hard hat. We timed it.
The Chaps' Chips
Now it is time for "The Official Numbers," courtesy of www.worldseriesofpoker.com. At least, they look official, don't they?

The Don is On
Don Baruch is making some moves. He doubled through Daniel Negreanu when Daniel raised from the small blind and Baruch called on the button to see the Q♥ J♠ 8♠ flop. When Daniel bet, Baruch moved all-in and Negreanu called.
Baruch showed K♥ J♥ for jacks, while Daniel revealed A♠ K♠ for the gutshot and flush draws. Q♣ 2♣ followed, doubling Don and nailing Negreanu.
A little later, after Daniel lost a pot to Jared Davis with two pair versus Davis' trip nines, Baruch made another move, check-raising to Daniel all-in on a board of T♦ 7♠ 5♠. Daniel took a long time to fold his Q♠ T♥ to Baruch's T♠ 2♠.
Payout Structure
Meanwhile, the payout structure for this event has been released. 900 players paid the $1,500 entry fee, creating a $1,228,500 prize pool, of which the top 90 players got paid. Everyone but the final table was guaranteed $6,757, with the first prize coming in at $264,107. Excuse the delay, but we had stuff to do.
Fuller Fourth!
5 years agoThomas Fuller has been eliminated in fourth place after going all in with A♦ 5♦. He ran into Jared Davis' A♣ A♥ and with narry a diamond on the board, he went broke!
Fourth place money is $68,796.
Now three handed, Daniel Negreanu has about $1.1 million in chips, Davis is sitting on $790,000 and Don Baruch, far from out of it, has $400,000.
Whener wasted!
5 years agoMichael Wehner got his stack in the middle from the Big Blind after a Daniel Negreanu cutoff raise. Negreanu called with K♦ Q♥ and was behind Wehner's Ah-4h but took the lead on the K♥ 7♠ 5♦ flop. The 3♥ on the turn gave Michael some hope, but his day ended as Negreanu made trips with the K♣ river.
Fifth place and $36,855 go to Wehner!
Brendan Lee Busts in 6th ($22,113)
5 years ago7th Place Elimination: Doug Baughman
5 years agoInside the poker box of mystery, there is a lot going on. Or so we think. "Currently", the players are on a 15 minute break. When we come back, blinds will be at $6,000/$12,000 with a $2,000 ante.
Before the break, we saw our 7th place elimination - Doug Baughman. Here's what went down in the shroud:
Doug Baughman Is Eliminated
Daniel Negreanu (SB), Baughman (cut-off) and Don Baruch (button) were involved in a hand, but Baughman was the unlucky hit. After seeing a flop of K♠ J♣ 3♣, Negreanu checked the hand, but Doug bet out. Baruch called, and Negreanu raised this time - but Baughman was eager and got all-in. This time Baruch folded, and it was heads-up between Danny and Doug.
Negreanu showed his A♦ K♥ - a pair of kings already; Baughman had Q♣ T♣, with an open-ended straight draw as well as a flush draw.
The turn was...another king! Negreanu now had a set of kings and Baughman's life was in danger. The river was an insignificant 2♠, and Negreanu took down the pot.
For his troubles and efforts, Baughman will take home a paycheck of $15,971.
Surprise! - Lindgren Eliminated 8th ($12,899)
5 years agoIn a sudden turn of a events well-known pro Erick Lindgren has been eliminated. While many thought this table might turn into a heads-up match between Lindgren and Negreanu it was not to be. Here's how Lindgren was eliminated.
Lindgren and Dan Baruck both go to a flop of J♥ 9♥ 5♦. Lindgren bets and Baruck calls. The turn comes A♠ and Lindgren pushes all-in. Baruck calls and shows A♥ 9♦ for two pair. Lindgren, who is obviously frustrated, throws down A♦ 7♥ (The good natured Lindgren, quickly apologizes, however). The river card can't help Lindgren and he has been eliminated in eighth place.
Gold Gone - Fred Goldberg Eliminated 9th (9,828)
5 years agoUpdate Summary 1 for Event 21 Day 2
5 years agoNo Action
It's all about small pots right now with all the players jockeying for position and chips. No all-in calls yet.
Negreanu Steals One From Baughman
Daniel Negreanu has 8♥ 6♥ and makes a minor bet. Doug Baughman makes the call and the flop comes 5♠ 3♥ 10♦. Negreanu makes a bet and chases Baughman from the hand.
Goldberg Wins a Pot From Lindgren
Fred Goldberg, who finished 10th in the Main Event last year, made a small bet and was called by Erick Lindgren. The flop comes 7♦ 10♠ 9♠ and both players check. The turn comes 4♣ and both players check again. Finally the river comes K♠ and both players check. Goldberg has a pair of fours, which is good enough to win the pot.
Action Underway
5 years agoAction is underway at the final table of Event 21 but because of the hour delay and the bluff tent we'll have updates for you shortly. In the meantime here's a look at the chip leaders heading into today:
