Francois Safieddine Wins Event 19 ($521,785)
5 years agoAfter going back and forth for the better part of an hour Francois Safieddine has beaten John "The Razor" Phan in heads-up play. The final hand went down like this:
Safieddine was the 4-1 chip leader when he moved all-in and Phan immediately called. Safieddine showed 4♥ 4♦ but Phan flipped over A♥ A♠. Phan's section of the crowd went crazy. The flop comes J♠ 8♣ 2♣ and Phan's family starting cheering as well. The turn comes 5♥ and it appeared that Phan had the hand in the bag but that's when the poker god's frowned on Phan. A devastating 4♠ appears on the river giving Safiddine a set of fours. Safiddine's section of the audience goes insane.
Safieddine has won his first bracelet and Phan will have to wait another day for his. Safieddine takes home $330,846 for his efforts.

5 years agoIn yet another elimination, Lars Bonding has came out the loser. The hand went like this:
Bonding raises to $120,000 pre-flop but John Phan re-raises to $300,000. Bonding re-raises all-in and Phan calls. Phan has 7♦ 7♣ while Bonding has K♣ Q♣. The flop comes 9♣ 7♥ 4♣ and Phan hits a set of sevens. The turn comes 4♥ and the river is 6♠. Phan wins and is definitely moving up. Bonding's day, however, is done.
'Shark' Gets Finned - Humberto Brenes Eliminated 7th ($55,918)
5 years agoThe eliminations are suddenly coming fast and furious. Humberto Brenes is the latest casuality. He got involved in a hand with Devin Porter and came out the loser. Here is the actual hand that lead to Brenes' demise:
Porter raises to $110,000 and Brenes re-raises all-in for $350,000. Porter calls and shows 10♣ 8♦ while Brenes has A♣ K♥ and the board comes 7♠ 3♦ 2♥ 8♠ 6♦. Porter has a a pair of eights and $350,000 more chips. Brenes is relegrated to the rail.
Alex Bolotin Eliminated in 8th ($40,773)
5 years agoAlex Bolotin has just been busted out of the tournament by Marcus Obser. Bolotin bet $300,000 pre-flop but Obser came back over the top and re-raised him all-in. Bolotin showed 7♦ 5♦ while Obser flips over 8♦ 8♣. The flop came J♦ 2♦ 2♥ giving Bolotin a chance for a flush but Obser still has the lead. The turn is 5♣ and the river is 8♥. Bolotin is eliminted.
Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier Busts in 9th Place ($29,124)

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier raises pre-flop to $75,000 and Safieddine calls from the big blind. The flop comes 7♦ 4♦ 2♥ and Saffieddine moves all-in. Grospellier makes the call and shows K♥ 3♥. Saffieddine has Q♦ 2♦. The turn comes 10♦ and the river is 2♣. Saffieddine has a flush and Grospellier has a lot less chips.
The Razor Doubles
Shawn Hattem bets $8,500 from middle position and the action folds to John "The Razor" Phan. Phan thinks for awhile and then pushes all-in for his last $302,000 and Shawn calls almost immediately. Phan flips over K♥ K♦ while Hattem shows A♠ J♦ and we're off to the races. The board goes 9♥ 6♣ 9♦ 8♥ 10♥ and Hattem's hand does not improve. Phan doubles up.
Brenes Steals a Pot
Shawn Hattem raises $70,000 in middle position. Actions folds to the big blind, which is Humberto Brenes. Brenes stands up and starts making over the top motions about pushing his entire chip stack into the pot. Eventually Brenes does go all-in and Shawn Hattem folds quickly. Brenes picks up his toy shark and starts hooting and hollering. Typical Humberto.
