Day 3 Live Updates

Great Saro for Sanford

Saro Getzoyan
No More Saro

It's over! After folding the blinds to Saro Getzoyan for a number of hands, Geoff Sanford finally made a move, with a pre-flop raise. Saro called to see the J 8 4 flop, which he bet. Sanford raised, Saro re-raised to put him all-in and Geoff called, showing 9 8 for middle pair.

Saro flipped up Q J for top pair and the anxious crowd pressed close. Q came on the turn to give Getzoyan two pair; and the river the 7. The tight crowd erupted in applause and Saro Getzoyan took the bracelet.

Geoff Sanford took $200,511 and second place while Getzoyan -- immediately on the phone to make a flight home in time for work the next day -- took the top prize of $333,379. The players shook hands and posed for photographs before the emotional crowd.

Heads Up Hijinx

What started as a commanding chip lead by Saro Getzoyan has turned into a fairly even match. First, after a three-bet flop, Geoff Sanford bet into the K-Q-8. Saro Getzoyan called to see the turned 2, then bet into Sanford's check-call for the river 7.

Both players checked and Sanford showed A-8 to take down one of the biggest pots of the night.

Earlier, Saro took a sizeable stack when a capped pre-flop brought 7-J-J. Sanford bet and Saro called for the turn and river 4-2; finally, Sanford check-called a bet from Getzoyan, who showed pocket tens to take it over Geoff's A-Q.

The chips are moving back and forth like lunar tides on speed. That's fast.

Gong Show

The dinner bell, she's a-ringin' and the heads-up action, it's a-holdin'. For about a half-hour. Then the only holdin' they'll be doin' will be Limit. Um. Never mind.

Chip Off the Old Block

It's mano-a-mano in a rounder-off of epic proportions. Let's have a look at the official numbers according to www.worldseriesofpoker.com

[[LiveUpdate:ChipholderTable]]

William the Third

William Thorson goes out in third place in a back-to-back card attack. First he called the rest of Geoff Sanford's chips on a board of 7-Q-4-4. Thorson flipped over pocket sixes, only to find Sanford had turned a set with his 4-6. The rivered 5 changed nothing and left Thorson decimated.

The next hand Thorson was all-in to make the big blind with 8 5 to face Geoff Sanford's A 8. The board brought no help, sending Thorson out in third place with $136,493. Next up: heads up.

Geoff's Triple-Geump

Geoff Sanford made a nice move, re-raising a raise and a call, from William Thorson and Saro Getzoyan, respectively. The flop came 3-9-T, Saro checked, Sanford bet, Thorson raised, Saro called and Sanford called for the rest of his chips.

Thorson and Saro checked down the following 5-K, with Getzoyan showing J-T for a pair. Sanford flipped up ladies to beat Saro and triple up to somewhere in the $500,000 neighborhood.

Thor Hansen
Hansen: Killer Carlson'd
Thor Hansen doubles-up Geoff Sanford with 7 6 to Sanford's K J on a A 7 4 J T board and, crippled, moves all-in preflop a few hands later. He is called by Saro Getzoyan who shows J 7 to the Norse God of Thunder's A 3. The flop comes 7 6 4 and the turn is the 2, giving Hansen the wheel draw but maintaining Getzoyan's advantage. The river is the 7 and Thor Hansen has been eliminated in fourth place. He'll take home $93,008 for his troubles.

David Gee
Gee: Golly'd
David Gee moves all-in shortly after seeing his kings deflated by aces and is called by Thor Hansen, who shows pocket tens to Gee's K 7. The flop brings bricks but the 7 on the river provides a glimmer of hope. The river card is the T, however, and David Gee has been eliminated in fifth place. He'll take home $68,850 for his efforts.

Huuuuuuge Pot

So, true story: David Gee raises and Saro Getzoyan re-ups. Gee calls it and the flop comes J 6 4. Getzoyan bets and is called by Gee, and the turn is the 3. Again Getzoyan bets, but this time Gee raises and is called. The river is the 4 and Getzoyan fires again and again is flat-called by Gee, who shows pocket kings, incredibly, to Getzoyan's pocket aces. Gees head explodes, and Getzoyan takes over the chip lead.

Koral Reefed

Tom Koral
Tom: Peeped
David Gee raises and Tom Koral makes the call in the big blind. The flop comes T 8 2 and Koral check-raises, drawing a call from Gee and bringing forth the 9 on the turn. Koral bets all-in and Gee makes the call, showing QJo to Koral's pocket sevens. The river card is a meaningless blank and Gee takes the pot with queen-high straight. Koral hits the rail in sixth place for $54,356.

Most Extreme Eliminations

Raymond Dehkharghani
Face, correct spelling of name shrouded in mystery

Dehkharghani Spellchecked

Sending rapturous cries through tired-poker-writer-land, Ray Dehkharghani has been eliminated in seventh place after seeing his pocket aces cracked by David Gee to lose a large pot and then betting out on flop and turn in a hand with William Thorsson and the board showing J 5 3 6, getting the last of his chips in on Fourth Street with K 9 to Thorsson's K Q. The river bricked out and that was the end of Ray-Ray, who hits the bricks with a $41,069 payday.

Don Whacked

Geoff Sanford raises and Don Todd re-raises out of the big blind. Sanford makes the call and the flop comes 8 6 3, wherein both players bet and raise until Todd is all-in for the last of his chips. Sanford shows pocket treys to Todd's Big Slick, and the board finishes out blanks to send Don Todd packing. He'll take home $30,198 for his eighth place finish.

Gabriel Archangel'd

Shortly after play begins at a final table being held (thanks to more boneheaded decisions by an organization that rhymes with "Farrah's") not on the final table soundstage but on a crowded table to the left of the shroud thanks to ESPN filming a commercial that is undoubtedly more important than a $5,000 World Championship event, Gabriel Nassif (no relation to 2006 Main Event finalist Dan Nassif) gets all-in with K 9 on a flop of K T 2. His dance partner is Geoff Sanford, who shows A K. The turn is the 5 and the river the A and Sanford avoids the flush draw to send Nassif to the rail. Nassif earns $21,742 for his very short stint at the final table.

Here are the chip counts going into the final table:

[[LiveUpdate:ChipholderTable]]

Chip counts courtesy www.worldseriesofpoker.com. Speaking of www.worldseriesofpoker.com, a funny story is, they still have Brandon Wong listen in their final table chip counts, making this tournament a final table of ten, if you believe the official providers of updates and information. $4 million well spent, guys.
