Day 6 Live Updates
WPT Festa: Flowers Wins!
2 years agoRandal Flowers just became the youngest two-time WPT champion in tour history.
Michael Benvenuti shoved a flush draw and a gutshot into Flowers' top pair and somehow it held making Flowers the 2010 WPT Festa al Lago champ and $831,500 richer.
Becoming the youngest WPT champion in history when he won the 2009 WPT Spanish Championship, the 22-year-old from North Carolina is now the youngest two-time winner on the tour.
Benvenuti took $564,200 for second and that's all she wrote from Festa.
WPT Festa: Schwartz Shot (3rd)
2 years agoNoah Schwartz got it in with queens against Randal Flowers' eights to double up once.
But the next time he saw a Flowers raise, he shoved king-queen and Flowers looked him up with a dominating ace-queen.
The board bricked out and while Schwartz will take $344,968 for third, Flowers will take a massive lead into heads up with Michael Benvenuti.
Heres how it'll look after the always fantastic money presentation:
1 Randal Flowers 9,760,000
2 Michael Benvenuti 3,670,000
WPT Festa: Koon Hunted (4th)
2 years agoNoah Schwartz took a pot off Jason Koon to inch closer to Randal Flowers, but it wasn't long before Koon got his revenge.
He shoved queen-jack facing a Schwartz raise and Flowers call. Only Schwartz looked him up and threw eights on the felt.
With his tournament life hanging in the balance, Koon flopped a queen, turned a jack and faded one of the two remaining eights on the river to double up over 3 million.
Highlights of the next few hands included Flowers calling a hand on the mic doing his best Mike Sexton impression before Koon finally met his fate.
He got in a rather big hand with Flowers betting every street before he rivered a nine-high straight. He bet again, Flowers shoved and when Koon called, he was shown a jack-high straight.
Koon takes $225,680 for fourth and we're down to three.
Here's how they stand:
1 Randal Flowers 7,865,000
2 Noah Schwartz 2,860,000
3 Michael Benvenuti 2,705,000
WPT Festa: Frankenberger Finished (5th)
2 years agoWe told you things would start happening fast and even though we're usually totally wrong about these things, things are definitely happening fast.
Just a couple hands after Skip Wilson said goodbye, Andy Frankenberger is headed to the cage to collect $161,200 for fifth.
He shipped fives and Randal Flowers made the call with tens.
Frankenberger's run at a second WPT title this year ended with a bit of a whimper, but he still holds the lead in the Season 9 WPT POY race.
Here at Festa we go four-handed now, with Flowers still in control.
Here's a look at the stacks:
1 Randal Flowers 4,955,000
2 Noah Schwartz 3,210,000
3 Jason Koon 2,675,000
4 Michael Benvenuti 2,590,000
WPT Festa: Wilson Skipped (6th)
2 years agoWhat the first 24 hands of the Festa final lacked in action, they made up for with atmosphere.
Play was mostly of the raise and take it variety with flops few and far between. Throw in a tape change delay and things were relatively the same as when they started.
But the crowd around the final table, filled with just about every Vegas local online pro you can think of, has turned the set into a rather fun place to be.
Hoops and hollars have filled the Fontana room with just about every pot.
Then came the 25th hand and it was a bit of a game changer.
Skip Wilson shipped it in on a ten-high flop with queen-ten and Michael Benvenuti looked him up with queens.
The board bricked out, the veteran Wilson took sixth for $112,840 and the Festa al Lago final table went five-handed.
Considering the shallow stacks and rising blinds, things will likely happen fast from here in on so don't go far.
WPT Festa: This is It!
2 years agoWe're minutes away from the start of the WPT Festa al Lago final table and you can touch and feel the excitement in the air here at Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Randal Flowers, who became the youngest WPT title holder in history when he took down the WPT Spanish Championship in 2009, is leading the way.
But WPT and WSOP final tablist Noah Schwartz, a player who last year's Festa champ Tommy Vedes apparently has a peice of, is right behind.
Online pro Jason "NovaSky" Koon shook off some bad beats Tuesday and will rollin third in chips, but it's the man right behind him that could be the real story here at Festa.
Andy Frankenberger has a legitimate shot at his second World Poker Tour title this year after the New York stock trader turned poker player took down the WPT Legends of Poker main event in Los Angeles this August.
The deep run already puts him in the lead for WPT Player of the Year, but a win would do all but lock it up.
Four time WSOP final tablist Skip Wilson and 2009 Caesars Palace Classic runner-up Michael Benvenuti round out the final six.
There's an $831,500 first-place prize on the line here at Festa and every one of these guys wants it bad.
To find out who has the stones to grab it, stay tuned to PL.com as we bring you up-to-the-minute coverage of every big hand and bustout until a champion is crowned.
