Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic - Live Updates
Day 6 Live Updates
WPT Five Diamond - Chino Wins
3 years agoDavid "Chino" Rheem is the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic champion.
He got Justin Young all-in on a Q♦ 8♥ 3♣ flop with Young holding Q♣ 5♣ for top pair. Chino had K♠ K♦, and the kings stood up on a 9♥ turn and 2♦ river.
The crowd goes wild; Young takes $936,760 for second, but it's Chino Rheem who grabs the $1,538,730 first-place prize and all the Five Diamond glory.
Of course, PL.com interviewed Chino after the win, and you'll find him and Lacey Jones on PL.com TV right here in just a few shakes of a lamb's tail.
Plus, we'll have a more in-depth interview with Rheem up here in a day or so, and the full recap of the final table over here before the sun comes up over Vegas.
WPT Five Diamond - It's Chino Again
3 years agoThe lead is back in Chino Rheem's hands now after he got it all-in on an A♣ 6♥ 3♣ flop.
Young called with A♥ 3♦, and two pair led against Chino's T♣ 4♣ flush draw.
The pro-Chino crowd went nuts again, however, when the 6♣ turned, giving him the flush. But Young still had outs for the win.
The 5♥ river was not one of them, and it's now $18 million for Chino to Young's $4 million again.
WPT Five Diamond - The Lead Changes Hands
3 years agoJustin Young has struck again, stealing the chip lead from David "Chino" Rheem.
All the money went in on a J♦ T♥ 7♠ flop with Chino holding the A♠ K♠. Young's Q♥ T♦ had connected, and the one pair held on a 3♣ turn and 5♠ river.
Young now has $13 million to Rheem's $9 million.
WPT Five Diamond - Young Hits
3 years agoJustin Young has doubled up to make this a match again.
He raised, Chino Rheem shoved and Young made the call for his tournament life with A♦ 6♥.
Chino was pushing with 3♣ 3♠ and Young took the lead when the Q♥ J♥ 6♦ flop came down. The 9♣ turn and 8♠ river did not contain a three, and Young doubled back to over $7 million in chips.
Rheem now has $15 million.
WPT Five Diamond - Chino Takes Hold
3 years agoDavid "Chino" Rheem has just taken a stranglehold on the title.
In what started out as another innocent small pot, Chino bet into the K♠ 7♦ 3♦ flop. Justin Young wasted little time making it $3 million on top, and Chino shoved.
Young tanked for what seemed like an eternity before eventually letting it go.
Rheem showed the A♦ 4♦ nut-flush draw and now has $18 million to just a little over $4 million for Young.
WPT Five Diamond - Yawn!
3 years agoSadly, there's not much to report in terms of big hands here at Bellagio.
Things remain relatively even with Chino Rheem holding the lead and trading relatively small pots back and forth with Justin Young.
As it stands, Rheem has about $12.5 million to Young's $9.9 million as we await the miracle cooler it will take to end this epic match.
WPT Five Diamond - Go Long
3 years agoChino Rheem has pulled back almost even again after flopping another big hand.
This time Young limped the button and Chino checked.
The 6♠ 5♣ 2♥ flop brought a check from Rheem before Young bet $250k.
Chino called, the turn came the K♠, and both players let it slide. The 2♣ river brought a $500k bet from Chino that Young called, forcing Chino to roll over 4-3o for the flopped straight.
Young showed a six, and it's a dead heat again.
WPT Five Diamond - Down by the River
3 years agoJustin Young has struck back here, taking the lead with $13 million in chips to Chino Rheem's $9 million after getting Chino to pay off his rivered straight.
Chino limped, Young checked and the flop fell A♣ 8♦ 5♣.
This time it was Young check-calling a $300k Rheem bet and after the 6♠ turn fell, Chino fired out another $600,000.
Young check-raised to $1.7 million and Chino called.
The river looked like a brick as the 2♦ fell, but Young bet $3 million and after time in the tank claiming he didn't want to pay him off, Chino did just that, making the call.
Young showed 4-3o, and the straight was good.
WPT Five Diamond - Chino Time
3 years agoChino Rheem just grabbed the chip advantage again, raking in a more than $2 million pot.
Young limped, Chino checked and the flop came A♠ T♦ 8♠.
Chino check-called a $300k Young bet, and the J♥ turn came down.
Both players tapped the felt, but when the K♦ river fell, Chino took the lead, making it $700,000.
Young mini-tanked and called, allowing Chino to show Q♣ J♦ and take the pot with a rivered gut-shot straight.
He's got more than $14 million now to Young's $7 million.
WPT Five Diamond - Even Again
3 years agoJustin Young has pulled back to even here at Bellagio.
After Chino Rheem limped the button, Young checked and a Q♦ 7♣ 5♥ flop was revealed.
Young fired away, throwing $200,000 at the pot, and Chino flatted.
The turn brought the 6♣ and another bet from Young, this time for $550,000. Rheem called again and the J♠ river came down, bringing yet another Young bet.
He slid $1.2 million across the line; Chino quickly called, and Young felted 9-8o for the straight.
Chino mucked, and they each have around $11 million in chips now.
WPT Five Diamond - Easy Now
3 years agoThe chip trading continues here with very few turns and rivers seen.
Chino Rheem did increase the lead on one hand that went to showdown, winning with just queen-high on an A♠ J♦ 8♦ K♥ 2♦ board, then pushing Justin Young off a K♠ 7♠ 4♠ flop with a $700k bet to snatch a $1 million pot.
He's on $12.4 million to Young's $9.9 million now.
WPT Five Diamond - Chino Leads
3 years agoChino Rheem has pulled into the lead here after flopping a massive hand and getting paid off big time.
The 8♣ 7♣ 6♣ flop saw Chino check-raise, getting the pot up and over $2 million at that point. The A♥ turn slowed things down and both players checked, but Chino got Young to pay off a $2 million bet on the 5♠ river.
Young showed the 6♥, but Chino had the flush with 4♣ 3♣, and takes the slight lead on $11.9 million to Young's $11.1 million.
WPT Five Diamond - McNiff and Jones
3 years agoAfter two cashes at the 2008 WSOP, this WPT final table was Evan McNiff's big splash into the world of high-stakes tournament poker.
Unfortunately, it ended a little sooner than expected when Chino Rheem sucked out on him and he shipped it short a few hands later only to go home third.
The $540,440 third-place prize should help soften the blow a little. Plus, a chance to chat with PL.com correspondent Lacey Jones might be worth it on its own.
Check out the video below to see what McNiff had to say:

WPT Five Diamond - Into the Deep
3 years agoHeads-up has been a back-and-forth affair, and following the first half a dozen hands, not much has changed.
Justin Young has won the only two hands that went to showdown, but Chino picked the chips back up quickly with some aggressive pre- and post-flop plays.
With such big stacks a larger confrontation can be avoided for now, but one is sure to happen eventually.
WPT Five Diamond - Sung Sunk
3 years agoThis was Steve Sung's third final table on the World Poker Tour, but he fell short of the win once again after getting caught up in a huge cooler that saw him and Amnon Filippi both fall to chip leader Justin Young in the same hand.
For his fourth-place finish Steve adds $396,205 to his more than $1.5 million in career earnings, and there's little doubt he's on the verge of something big.
The PL.com TV crew caught up with Sung following his unfortunate exit from the Five Diamond final table.
Check out the video below:
#Video:wpt5diamond/wpt5d-standups-sung-bust.mp4#
WPT Five Diamond - McNiff Snuffed (3rd)
3 years agoEvan McNiff is out third after shipping the short stack in with T♠ 4♣. Chino Rheem made the call with just T♣ 9♣, but it was a good one.
The board ran out 7♣ 3♠ 2♠ A♣ K♥ and Chino took the check-mark.
McNiff takes $540,440 for third and here comes the money presentation, with a heads-up match for the Five Diamond title to follow.
We will start with Justin Young on $14 million in chips and Chino on a little over $8 million in the battle for the $1.5 million first-place prize.
WPT Five Diamond - Epic Suck!
3 years agoThe Chino Rheem contingent here at the final table just exploded once again.
This time it happened when Chino got it all-in bad following a raising war with Evan McNiff, but sucked out the best hand on the turn.
When all the money went in, Chino's A♥ 9♥ was dominated against McNiff's A♦ J♥, and stayed there on the A♠ 7♣ 7♥ flop.
But the pro-Chino crowd went bananas when the 9♦ turn came, putting him ahead. The river came the 3♣ and Chino doubled up to $5.5 million.
McNiff is the shorty now with around $1 million in chips.
WPT Five Diamond - Two-for-One Cooler
3 years agoWe're suddenly three-handed at the Five Diamond after a massive cooler that sent both Steve Sung (fourth) and Amnon Filippi (fifth) to the rail.
The hand began when a suddenly short Amnon open-shoved for his last $700k. Sung made the call and when Young shipped it in over the top, he also called all-in for his tournament life.
Filippi had 9♣ 9♥; Sung held K♥ K♣, but Young had them both with A♦ A♣. The board ran out 7♦ 4♦ 4♠ 3♣ J♠ and Fillipi and Sung went with it.
They'll take $540,440 and $396,205 respectively, and now just three remain.
Young now holds a massive lead with more than $11 million in chips to Evan McNiff's $5.9 million and Chino Rheem's $4.5 million.
WPT Five Diamond - Light Call
3 years agoAmnon Filippi just doubled up thanks to a fairly light call from Evan McNiff.
The hand started with a McNiff $250k open before Amnon pushed in.
McNiff made the call with A♠ 5♥ and was dominated by Filippi's A♦ J♠.
The board came A♥ 6♦ 7♥ T♦ 6♣ and without much of a sweat, Amnon doubled up to almost $3 million in chips.
WPT Five Diamond - Level 25
3 years agoWe're into the 25th level now with Justin Young moving into the lead as Evan McNiff's slide continues.
The blinds are starting to reach a level that really means something, and with the players now ordering shots to the final table, we expect things to start happening fast.
WPT Five Diamond - Mine, All Mine
3 years agoChino Rheem just fleeced Justin Young out of half a million dollars, calling his $220k cut-off raise from the small blind.
The 8♥ 6♥ 4♣ flop was checked by both, as was the J♠ turn. But when the 6♠ river came down Chino led out for $320k.
Young made the call, but Chino's K♠ J♣ was enough to drag the pot.
WPT Five Diamond - Cowboy Talk
3 years agoHoyt Corkins was the sixth-place finisher here at the Five Diamond, adding $216,175 to his more than $4 million in career tournament earnings.
The man has already won a WPT title and grabbed second twice, so he's no stranger to the ups and downs of high-stakes tournament poker.
Plus, this cowboy was coming off four 2008 WSOP cashes, including a final table and a fairly deep 162nd-place finish at the Main Event.
Check out what he had to say to the PL.com TV crew down below:
#Video:wpt5diamond/wpt5d-standups-corkins.mp4#
WPT Five Diamond - It's Chino Time
3 years agoChino Rheem was looking a little short and shipped it preflop holding Q♥ J♥.
Chip leader Evan McNiff made the call ahead with 9♠ 9♦, but when the A♥ K♦ T♥ flop fell, Chino had the joint, and his rail got rowdy with a huge cheer.
The 5♥ turn gave Chino the flush and he doubled up to back over $3.5 million in chips.
McNiff and Justin Young are now in a dead heat for the lead.
WPT Five Diamond - Level 24!
3 years agoWe're into Level 24 now and Evan McNiff has taken a commanding lead by picking off a Steve Sung bluff.
Holding a pair of jacks with queen kicker, he called a big bet from Steve when a third spade turned and another one on the end when an ace came on the river, but the jack was good.
He's over $8 million now.
WPT Five Diamond - Put a Cork in It (6th)
3 years agoHoyt Corkins put practically all of his chips in preflop against Justin Young a few moments ago.
The rest went in on the K♦ Q♠ 6♦ flop with Hoyt holding A♥ Q♥.
His only issue was, Young had A♣ K♠, and when the K♥ turn came down on the turn, Corkins was drawing dead.
The T♥ river was the final nail in The Cowboy's coffin, and he heads to the cage to collect $216,175.
WPT Five Diamond - Young Hearts Be Free Tonight
3 years agoJustin Young just doubled up through Chino Rheem, leaving the 2008 WSOP Main Event seventh-place finisher hurting badly.
All the cash went in the middle on an A♠ 5♥ 2♦ flop with Chino holding A♥ J♣ and Young having hit the flop even harder with A♦ 5♦.
The 6♥ turn and 4♣ river changed nothing, and while Chino dips to $2 million in chips and sits among the shorter stacks now, Young's two pair brings him close to $5 million.
WPT Five Diamond - A Little on the Tight Side
3 years agoThere hasn't been a showdown in the first few orbits here and, in fact, we have yet to see a river card.
The biggest hands so far include Amnon Filippi pushing Steve Sung off a $1 million pot betting at a raggedy flop and Chino Rheem betting Evan McNiff off another pot of the same size on the turn with a paired board containing three hearts.
It's some very tense and tight play here as we await the first big confrontation of the final table - stay tuned.
WPT Five Diamond - The Kid

Evan McNiff
$4,805,000 (2nd in chips; 80 big blinds)
Evan McNiff is a 22-year-old poker player who was born and raised in Connecticut, and he plays online as "FrinkX." He only has a few entries in the tournament databases, and he lists a 25th-place finish in a WSOP $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event as his greatest poker accomplishment.
With less than $85,000 in career earnings so far, he is the least experienced live player at the table. But he has been among the top four in chip counts for all five days of this tournament, so he must be doing something right. Even a sixth-place finish would more than double his career earnings, but since he starts the final table second in chips, he isn't looking for a personal best; he wants a title.
Biggest Live Tournament Cash: $28,950 (373rd, 2008 WSOP Main Event)
Career Earnings in Live Tournaments: $84,190
WPT Five Diamond - The Rounder
3 years ago Seat 5
Justin Young
$2,410,000 (5th in chips; 40 big blinds)
Justin Young is a 28-year-old player from North Carolina who has been playing poker seriously for three years. He graduated from North Carolina State with a degree in mechanical engineering, and that was his career before he got into poker.
This is Young's third cash in a WPT event, and his first final table. He cashed twice during the 2008 WSOP, and spent some time at the TV table on Day 2 of the WSOP Main Event, so he has a little experience playing in front of the cameras. The biggest victory of his career came in $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em here at Bellagio in the 2006 Festa al Lago tournament, where he earned $113,000. But even a sixth-place finish here would nearly double that number.
Justin Young is married and has no kids.
Biggest Live Tournament Cash: $113,865 (1st, $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em, Bellagio's 2006 Festa al Lago)
Career Earnings in Live Tournaments: $607,000
WPT Five Diamond - The Man in Charge
3 years agoSeat 4
Steve Sung
$5,885,000 (1st in chips; 98 big blinds)
Steve Sung is a young player known online as Muggilicious. Sung is usually silent at the table, wearing headphones and listening to music, wrapped up in sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt. But if you can catch him away from the table, you find that he's an extremely nice guy. He definitely follows the Chris "Jesus" Ferguson example of "Never give your opponents any extra information," though. Trying to get a read off Steve Sung is like trying to read a statue.
Sung won't be allowed to wear headphones at the televised final table, but he's adapted before - this is his third WPT final table. Sung finished fourth at the 2007 WPT Spanish Championship, and then finished second to Brandon Cantu at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star earlier this year. Sung has also reached three WSOP final tables, and he only started playing live tournaments seriously in 2006.
Steve Sung is close friends with Nam Le, J.C. Tran, Danny Wong and Quinn Do, a group with two WPT titles and countless WPT final tables among them. Expect some (or all) of them to be in the stands rooting for him, giving him invaluable support and advice as he aims for his first major victory.
Biggest Live Tournament Cash: $585,000 (2nd, 2008 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star)
Career Earnings in Live Tournaments: $1.29 million
WPT Five Diamond - The Cowboy

Hoyt Corkins
$2,295,000 (6th in chips; 38 big blinds)
"Cowboy" Hoyt Corkins is no stranger to fans of the World Poker Tour, as this will be his sixth appearance on the show. The highlight of his career was his victory at WPT Foxwoods all the way back in Season 2, where he became the first player to win $1 million in a regular-season WPT tournament. Corkins would love to join the exclusive club of players with multiple WPT titles.
Corkins has been playing poker professionally for 30 years, picking up $4 million in career earnings along the way. He won his first WSOP bracelet back in 1992, and added another one in 2007. He has made six WSOP final tables, and finished second to Mike Matusow in the 2005 WSOP Tournament of Champions - one of the most exciting final tables of the televised era.
While he can be soft-spoken at the table, Corkins lets his chips do the talking for him. He is not afraid to get it all-in, and even as the short stack, he will put pressure on the other players with big bets.
Biggest Live Tournament Cash: $1,089,200 (1st, 2003 WPT Foxwoods)
Career Earnings in Live Tournaments: $4 million
WPT Five Diamond - Amnon
3 years agoSeat 2
Amnon Filippi
$2,750,000 (4th in chips; 45 big blinds)
Amnon Filippi is a 39-year-old professional poker player from New York who is a regular on the poker circuit. He is a talkative player, engaging his opponents and cracking jokes while he plays. Filippi can definitely liven up the broadcast if he goes deep.
Unfortunately, at his last WPT final table (2007 Mirage Poker Showdown), the cards were not on his side. He flopped the nut ace-high straight and got it all-in against a flush draw. But a flush card hit the river, and Filippi busted in the second hand, finishing in sixth place. Filippi has one more WPT final table on his resume, having finished fourth at the 2006 Borgata Winter Poker Open.
The biggest victory of Filippi's career came in the $10,000 championship event of the inaugural Bellagio Cup ($364,200), but he actually earned more money - and more credibility as an all-around player - with his fourth-place finish at the 2007 WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.
Biggest Live Tournament Cash: $586,080 (4th, 2007 WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E.)
Career Earnings in Live Tournaments: $1.75 million
WPT Five Diamond - Chino
3 years agoThe WPT has provided us with bios for each of the final six.
Here's Chino Rheem's right now, and the rest will follow:
Seat 1
David "Chino" Rheem
$4,240,000 (3rd in chips, 70 big blinds)
Fresh off a seventh-place finish among the WSOP's "November Nine," the 28-year-old Chino Rheem should be well-known to even casual poker fans at this point. It was his second final table of the WSOP, as he finished fifth in the $5,000 Mixed Hold'em that featured one of the tougher lineups you'll ever see (Erick Lindgren, Justin Bonomo, Andrew Robl, Roland De Wolfe, Howard Lederer, David Williams, Isaac Haxton, Pat Pezzin.)
This is actually Chino's first cash on the World Poker Tour, and he'd love to make it a victory. He already has nearly $2.5 million in live tournament cashes, and a third-place or better finish will put him over the $3 million mark.
Chino has been playing poker for 10 years (the last five as a professional), and he credits "Dem Grinder Boys" (the Mizrachi family) for getting him into poker down in south Florida. Even though Robert Mizrachi busted out in 11th place, there's a good chance you'll see some Mizrachis in the audience.
Chino is similar to Mike Matusow in one respect: some people consider him to be his own worst enemy. When he's in the zone, he's nearly unbeatable, as we saw when he called off most of his stack with ace-high against Clonie Gowen on Day 4 - and won. But Chino also has the potential to self-destruct, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him finish anywhere from first through sixth place.
Biggest Live Tournament Cash: $1.77 million (7th, 2008 WSOP Main Event)
Career Earnings in Live Tournaments: $2.48 million
WPT Five Diamond - The Final Table Starts Now
3 years agoThe players have been introduced, the cameras are rolling and the final table of the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic is under way.
It starts with Steve Sung in with the chip lead holding $5.8 million in this, his third WPT final table.
Coming off three cashes at the 2008 WSOP, Evan McNiff will be next with $4.8 million.
Chino Rheem is looking to better his seventh-place finish at the 2008 WSOP Main Event with a win here at Bellagio, coming into the final table with $4.2 million in chips.
Amnon Filippi is next with $2.75 million and it's also his third WPT final-table appearance.
Justin Young placed 11th here at the WPT Bellagio Cup and has $2.4 million to start.
On $2.295 million, the shortest stack right now, is Hoyt Corkins. He already has a WPT title and two runner-up finishes on the books, and should not be counted out in the hunt for the $1.5 million first place prize.
