WPT Spanish Championship - Live Updates
Day 4 Live Updates
It's Over; Lehmann Is Champion!
4 years agoThis tournament is over and Markus Lehmann is champion! Lehmann had built up a more than 2-1 chip lead going into the final hand and was able to get his opponent all-in and make the best hand hold up.
Lehmann opened the pot to $125,000 and Lacay re-raised to $350,000. Lehmann made the call and the flop came 8♠ 5♠ 3♥; Lacay quickly moved all-in and Lehmann beat him into the pot. A♠ 5♣ for Lacay, for second pair, would need to improve against Lehmann's K♥ 8♦, but after the turn and river came 3♣ 4♥ it was all over!
Ludovic Lacay takes €295,200 for his runner-up finish and Austria's Markus Lehmann takes €537,000 and the title. PL.com has to hit the floor to get the winner shots and, fingers crossed, an interview with our champion so stay tuned for those which will be up soon.

| Ludovic Lacay | $1,809,000 |

Christer Crossed Out
4 years agoThe short stack of the remaining three, Christer Johansson, has been eliminated. He was in the big blind and saw an unraised flop of T♣ 8♥ 7♦ along with Markus Lehmann in the small blind. After a check from his opponent, Johansson bet out $50,000. Lehmann flat-calls and the turn is the K♠. Lehmann checks again and Johansson bets $90,000. Lehmann announces raise and makes it $300,000 to go. After a bit of time in the tank Christer moves in and gets snap-called by Lehmann.
Q♣ T♥ for Johansson for second pair.
K♥ 5♥ for Lehmann for top pair.
The board finishes out with the 6♥ and Christer Johansson is sent to the rail in third place for €151,000.

4 years agoSung Smashed; Down to Three
4 years agoSteve Sung has been eliminated in a dramatic roller-coaster hand that saw him get his money in bad and suck-out only to be re-sucked-out on. The hand began with Sung limping from the button and Ludovic Lacay calling from the small blind. Markus Lehmann raised from the big blind and after a bit of thought Sung announced all-in. Ludovic folded but Lehmann insta-called.
A♥ A♦ for Lehmann was leading Sung's K♣ K♠ going to the flop which came J♠ 9♥ 8♥. The turn was the K♥, nailing Sung's set but giving Lehmann the nut-flush draw. The river was the T♥, completing Lehmann's flush and eliminating Steve Sung in fourth place for €117,400.
Blinds Up
4 years agoThe Great Dane Sent to Live on Farm
4 years agoThe biggest name at the table today, Gus Hansen, has been eliminated. It was folded to Hansen in the small blind and he raised to $74,000. Ludovic Lacay, in the big blind, made the call and both players saw the flop come Q♣ 6♥ 4♥.
Hansen paused for a beat before announcing all-in. Lacay beat him into the pot. Pocket aces for Lacay were light-years ahead of Hansen's A♠ T♠. The Great Dane would need running cards to stay alive and got one of them when the K♣ hit the turn. The river was not a jack, however, and Hansen is out in fifth for €100,600.
Two Big Pots for Lacay
4 years agoFrance's Ludovic Lacay just took down two big pots, both without having to show down his hand. The first was raised to $60,000 by Gus Hansen from the cut-off with Lacay making the call from the button. The flop came J♠ 4♣ 2♦ and Hansen led out for $80,000. Lacay announced raise and made it $225,000 to go. After a bit of thought Hansen laid it down and conceded the pot.
The second was against Christer Johansson and began with Johansson opening to $55,000 from under the gun and Lacay making the call. The flop came 9♥ 6♣ 3♠ and Lacay bet out $85,000. Johansson made the call and the 6♠ hit the turn. Lacay checked and Johansson bet out $140,000. After a bit of mulling and chip shuffling Lacay announced he was all-in. Johansson only took a few seconds before folding and shipping the healthy pot to the Frenchman.
Ludovic Lacay is now the chip leader with about $1.1 million on the felt in front of him.

Johansson on the Rise
4 years agoJohansson Doubles
4 years agoLehmann Doubles
4 years agoAfter playing very few hands leading up to this point, Markus Lehmann just got all-in against Gus Hansen and managed to come from behind to double through the Dane. Lehmann opened the pot and it was folded to Hansen in the big blind. Hansen announced raise and made it $175,000 to go. Lehmann quickly announced all-in and Hansen, already priced into the hand, made the call.
A♠ T♠ for Gus was leading the surprisingly weak 7♣ 8♣ of Lehmann. The flop gave Lehmann the lead, coming K♣ 8♥ 2♠, and after the board finished out 9♦ 2♣ Lehmann's pair of eights was good for the double.

4 years agoLa Eliminacion Numero Uno: Vlad Impaled
4 years agoWe have our first elimination of the night and it is Russia's Vladimir Poleshchuk headed to the rail in sixth. Poleschuk has been severely short-stacked since the beginning of the day and moved all-in for the second time in the last few minutes, making it $112,000 to go from the button.
Christer Johansson got out of the way in the small blind but Steve Sung made the call from the big. K♠ 9♥ for Poleshchuk would need to improve against the A♦ 2♠ of Sung. The flop came 5♣ 3♥ 2♦ and Sung retained his lead. The T♦ A♠ on the turn and river changed nothing and Vladimir Poleschuk is eliminated, taking €83,900 for his trouble.
