Festa Al Lago - Live Updates
The 2006 Festa al Lago is over and Andreas Walnum has taken the bracelet. In a stacked field of tough competitors, Andreas was able to come back from the short-stack to take down first place. For the most part the eliminations today came from players clashing with big hands although it will be interesting to see the hole-cards that were mucked when this episode airs on television in a few months. Congratulations to Andreas Walnum and all the other players who made it to this final table!
Day 5 Live Updates
It's All Over!
Andreas Walnum has taken down this event and earned $1,090,025! In the final hand Walnum opened for an additional $175,000 and Wong made the call. The flop came down K♥ J♥ 2♣ and Walnum bet out $200,000. Wong called and the turn showed the 8♣. Walnum checked it to Steve who tossed in $400,000. Walnum raised it to $800,000 which Wong called. After the 5♦ on the river Walnum pushes all-in and Wong calls. Andreas shows pocket deuces for a set and Wong flips up a k-4 for top pair. Walnum will get the first prize cash, the bracelet and a $25,000 buy-in to the WPT Championship. Wong will take home $542,700 for his second place finish.
Heads-Up!
Heads-up play is about to begin with Andreas Walnum in a commanding position with $6.2 million against Steve Wong's $2.6 million.
Pelton Busts!
It's down to heads-up play now that Joe Pelton has busted out in third place. After Pelton limped in this hand, Walnum bumped it up by another $150,000 and Pelton called. Pelton got all his money in after the flop came down K♦ 8♥ 7♥ and Walnum made the call. Andreas was holding K-Q for a pair of kings and all Pelton was had was a J-9 for an inside straight draw. A 3 on the turn and an Ace on the river made Walnum's pair the best hand and eliminated Joe Pelton. Pelton has earned $292,220 for this third place finish.
Say Goodbye to Chris Loveland
Loveland opened this pot for $150,000 and Andreas Walnum re-raised to $600,000. Loveland quickly pushed all-in and Andreas immediately called. It was a coin flip when Andreas turned up Big Slick which was up against Chris's wired sevens. An Ace on the flop changed all that and Loveland's sevens were unable to improve when the board showed A♣ 9♣ 9♦-#8-8♥ by the end. Loveland is out in fourth and will receive $187,745.
Loveland Doubles Up
After Joe Pelton raised this pot to $150,000, Chris Loveland pushed all-in for about $400,000 more. Pelton made the call and showed 4♦ 5♦ which was behind Loveland's K♣ 8♣. The board gave Pelton no help and Loveland has doubled up to a little over $1 million.
David Baker is Gone!
David Baker pushed his remaining $720,000 in pre-flop in this hand and Pelton made the call. Baker was ahead with A♣ 5♠ against Joe's K♦ Q♠. Joe picked up a pair of queens on the flop to take command of the hand. A king on the turn gave Joe two pairs and eliminated Baker in fifth place. He will take home $125,240 for his efforts.
Wong Gets Some of his Chips Back
Wong and Pelton clashed again in this hand when Steve opened for $180,000 from the big blind and Pelton made the call from the small blind. Wong bet out $260,000 after the flop came down K♣ 6♥ 3♣ and after thinking for a few moments Joe pushed all-in. Wong wasted no time in making the call and turned over A♦ K♦ which had Pelton's A♠ 5♣ completely dominated. Pelton picked up a flush draw when the turn showed a 2♣ but the K♥ on the river gave him no help. Wong takes back the chips he gave to Pelton earlier and is now sitting with over $2 million.
Pelton Doubles Up Again
Pelton was under the gun in this hand and made it $120,000 to go. The action was folded to Steve Wong in the big blind who made the call. The flop fell 6-5-2 rainbow and Pelton bet out $300,000. Wong raised to $1 million which basically put Pelton all-in. Pelton made the call and flipped over a wired pair of queens. Wong was behind with his K-5 and needed some help. His pair of fives was unable to improve though and Pelton increases his stack to more than $2 million.
Pelton Doubles Through
Joe Pelton raised this pot pre-flop to $85,000 and Chris Loveland came ove the top and made it $270,000. Pelton quickly moved in for about $200,000 more and Loveland called. Loveland was holding pocket nines and needed a lot of help to crack Pelton's Aces. Loveland got no help from the board and Pelton doubles up to almost $1 million.
Can Kim Hua is Eliminated
David Baker opened this pot for $90,000 and Can Kim Hua bumped it up to $200,000. Baker came back over the top, moving all-in, and CK made the call. Baker flipped over bullets and had Hua's A♠ K♠ dominated. The flop came down #T-9♥ 9♠, not much help to Hua. The turn was a Q♠, giving CK a spade flush draw and an inside straight draw but the 4♥ on the river sealed the deal and sent Hua packing. CK is out in sixth and will receive $83,490.
Trip tens for Wong
In the small blind, Steve Wong calls and Joe Pelton checks his option from the big blind. The flop comes T♥ T♦ 2♥. Wong checks and then calls Pelton's $20,000 bet. Both players check through the turn, which comes 4♦, and Wong bets $80,000 after the river card is the 8♣. Pelton calls, but Wong has a ten for the set and Pelton mucks, giving Wong the pot.
Wong has taken over the chip lead and now has $2.7 million. Pelton's fortunes are sinking lower and lower; he's in last place with $600,000.

Loveland taking pots
Chris Loveland is stringing together a few nice pots, taking a hand from Joe Pelton with ace-high from the big blind and then re-raising Steve Wong's $75,000 opener from the button to take down a second pot. A few minutes ago he got entangled in a hand with Andreas Walnum after raising to $60,000 and getting a call from the Norwegian in the big blind. Both players checked through the flop and the turn on a board that came Q♣ 9♣ 8♦ K♣ 8♣, and Walnum tried to steal with a $60,000 bet on the river with 7♥ 3♥. Loveland called with a king but no clubs, and took down the pot. He now has over $1.2 million in chips while Joe Pelton has slipped to sixth with $670,000. Andreas Walnum is the chip leader with $2.2 million.
Walnum doubles through Pelton
The Bank of Joe Pelton has funded another double-up, as Andreas Walnum has improved his changes by getting the better of an all-in encounter with the chip leader. Walnum moved all-in after Pelton bet $350,000 on a board of A♦ Q♠ 8♦ 6♦ 8♣, and showed pocket sixes to take down the pot with a full house. Walnum is now the chip leader with $2.6 million, while Joe Pelton's day has taken a disastrous turn and he has dropped to fifth place with $850,000.
Wong doubles through Pelton
On the second hand of the day, Steve Wong raises to $120,000 and Joe Pelton re-raises all-in. Wong calls with A♠ K♦ to Pelton's A♥ 9♥. Neither player improves on a board of T♠ 2♣ 2♦ 8♠ 3♣ and Wong doubles up. He now has over $1.6 million in chips.
Pelton has been playing very aggressive in the early going, raising most of the pots preflop and looking like he's going to try to use his big stack to his advantage. On this case, however, it backfired.
