2011 Aussie Millions Main Event - Live Updates
Day 5 Live Updates
David Gorr Wins 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event!
1 year agoIt took over 200 hands of heads-up play but we have a champion! Melbourne native David Gorr has defeated Brit James Keys to claim the $2 million first-place prize and the title of Aussie Millions champion!
It was a teeter-totter of a match with the chip lead swinging back and forth before coming to rest permanently with the Australian.
Gorr took back the chip lead with a big double, all-in preflop with A-Q against K-Q. Keys flopped a flush draw but missed on the turn and the river.
Just a few hands later James Keys opened on the button and Gorr called. The flop came down 7♠ 6♣ 3♥ and Gorr check-called 275,000. The K♥ hit the turn and Keys bet 650,000. Gorr check-raised to 1.65 million and Keys moved in.
Gorr snap-called and we saw the hands.
Gorr: K♣ 4♣
Keys: 7♣ 3♣
It was Keys in danger of elimination and Gorr had a ton of outs to win him this tournament. The river was the 4♠, making Gorr a better two-pair and busting Keys in second.
David Gorr takes $2 million and the title while James Keys takes $1,035,000.
Keys Doubles Big - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoJames Keys is back and he's got this match by the throat.
The stacks were near even when David Gorr opened from the button. The flop came down K-5-3 and Keys check-called 250,000. A deuce hit the turn and Keys led for 850,000.
Gorr raised to 4 million straight and after a bit of thought before moving all-in. Gorr snap-called with A-K and saw he needed help against K-5.
The river was a blank and Keys doubles up, taking almost all of the chips in play.
Gorr was down to about 1 million and got it in just a few hands later. Gorr held K-J against K-3 and flopped a jack to seal the double. That took him to just over 2 million, where we now stand.
Heads-Up Continues - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoDavid Gorr and James Keys are still throwing down here in Studio 3 at the Crown Casino and not much has changed since we began.
Keys has managed to chip up to 4.4 million but he's still got a long way to go if he's going to overcome Gorr's 10 million mountain of chips.
As we reported earlier a deal has been made but that doesn't change the fact that both of these players are doing everything they can to walk away from this table with the title of Aussie Millions champion.
For James Keys it's especially important. He recently got a deal with RedKings.com and winning this thing would go a long way for his poker celebrity.
We're breaking for 15 minutes so hit us back to find out who takes this thing down.
Blinds are 40k/80k with a 10k ante.
Rossiter Out in 3rd - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoJust a few hands into the level and we've lost Jeff Rossiter in third place! Perhaps the deal had something to do with it, or perhaps it was just a cooler.
Rossiter opened to 180k from the button and David Gorr three-bet to 550k from the small blind. James Keys folded and Rossiter made the call.
The flop came down Q♣ J♥ 5♥ and both players checked. The 3♥ hit the turn and after a check from Gorr, Rossiter put in 720,000. Gorr check-raised to 1.72 million and Rossiter called.
The river was the 5♦ and Gorr shipped it in. Rossiter called all-in.
Gorr showed A♥ Q♥ for the nut flush and Rossiter's eyebrows shot straight up in surprise. He didn't even show his hand as he got up to go.
The official payout for third is $700,000.
David Gorr now has a commanding lead going into the heads-up match.
David Gorr - 12 million
James Keys - 2.5 million
Final 3 Back from Dinner - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoPokerListings.com and the rest of the media just got back from a great dinner generously offered by the Crown Casino. Yesterday they bought us Nobu and champagne and tonight pizza and calzone. Not too shabby.
Upon arriving back in the tournament room we noticed the final three players huddled together over a table, working on a document. We ambled a little closer and saw they were writing up the terms of a chop with the help of a tournament director.
They even called for a cameraman to film the signing, for "legal reasons".
We're not sure on the final numbers of the deal but we do know that some money is being left on the table. We're pretty sure we heard $235,000 for first and $100,000 for second.
Considering there's a total of $3,735,000 between the top three spots there's more than enough to go around.
Here's where we stand chip count-wise.
Jeff Rossiter: 6 million
David Gorr: 5.1 million
James Keys: 4.7 million
Stay tuned because we're not going to stop until we have a winner.
Lucky Double for Keys - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoWe're ten minutes away from taking a short 30-minute break for dinner and James Keys is counting his lucky stars that he's still alive in this event.
With blinds of 30k/60k Jeff Rossiter opened to 140,000 from the button and Keys three-bet from the big blind. Rossiter shipped and Keys called all-in for around 2 million.
Keys: A-9
Rossiter: A-J
Shouts for nines and jacks were competing to be heard over the general din of the crowd as the flop rolled out nine-high. Keys' pair of nines held up and he doubles to 4 million.
Jeff Rossiter: 6 million
David Gorr: 5.1 million
James Keys: 4.7 million
We'll be back in action in no time so check back then.
Ryan Out, 3 Remain - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoAfter about an hour of four-handed play we have another elimination. Michael Ryan has been knocked out by Jeff Rossiter in 3rd place and will be taking home $450,000!
With blinds of 30k/60k Ryan opened to 155,000 and Rossiter three-bet to 430,000. Ryan took his time deciding to put in a fourth bet to 850,000 and Rossiter moved in for 1.2 million total.
Ryan made the call, putting his tournament life on the line.
Ryan: 9-9
Rossiter: A-K
The flop and turn were blanks but the A♠ hit the river, giving Rossiter the elimination and the chip lead. He's out in front right now with almost 7 million. Check out the three-handed counts below.
| Jeff Rossiter | 6900000 |
| David Gorr | 5950000 |
| James Keys | 2050000 |
Dorfman Demolished - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoThe name Randy Dorfman was at the top of the leaderboard for much of the last few days but it's now inscribed in the results book in the 5th-place slot.
Dorfman was the shortstack and open-shoved from the small blind. Chip leader David Gorr was in the big blind and could easily afford to call, especially when he looked down at A♣ 9♣.
Dorfman was in the lead with pocket tens and was able to make them hold up on the flop and the turn. An ace hit the river and Dorfman let out a groan of frustration.
On the bright side he does get $325,000 for his 5th place finish.
Four players remain and with that elimination David Gorr extends his lead even further. Check out the new counts below:
| David Gorr | 7200000 |
| Jeff Rossiter | 2800000 |
| James Keys | 2500000 |
| Michael Ryan | 2200000 |
Down to 5 - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoWe've lost another one and it's Black Belt Poker player Sam Razavi headed out the door in 6th.
Razavi was short and had open-shoved two hands in a row when James Keys looked him up.
Keys: 7-7
Razavi: A-7
The board ran with no improvent to either hand and Sam Razavi is out in 7th for $225,000.
David Gorr is still the massive chip leader. Check out the new chip counts below.
| David Gorr | 5500000 |
| Jeff Rossiter | 2750000 |
| James Keys | 2500000 |
| Michael Ryan | 1900000 |
| Randy Dorfman | 1500000 |
Moorman Out in 7th - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoNo sooner had we finished writing up that last Moorman double when he went ahead and busted right out of this tournament. No one ever accused Moorman of being passive and when got his hands on those new chips he put them straight to use.
David Gorr opened and Moorman three-bet. Gorr flat-called and the flop came down T-T-7 with two diamonds. Moorman shipped it in and got a quick call.
Moorman: 4♦ 8♦
Gorr: K♠ T♠
Moorman got no help from the turn or the river and he's out in 7th for $175,000.
David Gorr is now firmly back in the chip lead, followed by James Keys. Blinds are now 15k/30k with a 5k ante.
Check out the new counts below:

| Jeff Rossiter | 1300000 |
| Samad Razavi | 875000 |
Moorman Survives - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoChris Moorman just survived an all-in confrontation, doubling up and getting himself back in this event.
Moorman opened and chip leader James Key three-bet. It was folded back to Moorman who moved all in. Keys called and the cards were rolled.
Moorman: T♣ T♦
Keys: A♥ 7♥
The flop gave Keys more outs, coming 9♣ 9♥ 8♥, but the turn and river brought neither a heart nor an ace. Moorman's now on 1.3 million. Keys still leads.
Check out the new counts:
| James Keys | 3300000 |
| David Gorr | 3000000 |
| Randy Dorfman | 2100000 |

| Jeff Rossiter | 1350000 |
| Chris Moorman | 1300000 |
Slow-Play Backfire Busts Antonius - Aussie Millions
1 year agoThis eight-way stalemate has finally been broken and it's Patrik Antonius headed out the door in 8th place. No one, except the other players at the table, wanted to see Antonius busted but it's not all bad news. He gets $130,000 and we're one step closer to crowning a champion.
Antonius took a sneaky line, limping in with kings, but it definitely didn't work out the way he wanted it to.
He was joined in the limped pot by Chris Moorman, David Gorr and Randy Dorfman and the flop came down Q-T-7 with two spades. Antonius bet at it and Gorr raised. The remaining players got out of the way and Antonius moved all-in.
Gorr made a quick call and turned over Q-T which had outflopped Patrik's cowboys.
David Gorr is back up to iover 2 million, traling chip leader Randy Dorfman's 3.5 million.
Check out the new counts:
| James Keys | 3500000 |
| Randy Dorfman | 2200000 |
| David Gorr | 2100000 |
| Michael Ryan | 1850000 |
| Jeff Rossiter | 1750000 |
| Samad Razavi | 1400000 |
| Chris Moorman | 700000 |
Gorr in the Lead - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoWe're closing in on the halfway mark of this level and we've got a new chip leader in David Gorr. Randy Dorfman was the one to ship him the chips, slipping to second place as a result.
Dorfman limped and Gorr pumped it to 130,000. Dorfman flat-called and the flop came down 8♠ 5♦ 2♠. Dorfman check-called 200,000 and the J♠ hit the turn.
Dorfman took the lead and put 500k into the middle. Gorr made the call and they both checked the K♠ river.
Gorr tabled pocket queens with the Q♠ which had rivered Dorfman's 9♠ T♠.
Gorr takes over the chip lead with 3.1 million while Dorman gets knocked down to 3 million.
Check out the latest chip counts.
| David Gorr | 3150000 |
| Randy Dorfman | 3000000 |

8 Return for Final Table - Aussie Millions Main Event
1 year agoThe final table is now and by the end of the day someone will have $2 million and the 2011 Aussie Millions championship title.
All eyes, as usual, are on Patrik Antonius but he's got some tricky players to deal with if he's going to take this thing down.
American Randy Dorfman is leading the pack with a sizable lead over his nearest competition. Dorfman is on his honeymoon and it's his birthday so superstition, and his surplus of chips, makes him the flat-out favorite.
The original plan called for playing down to a final table of six yesterday but after around four hours of eight-handed play the decision was made to call it a day. The stacks are still deep so we've got plenty of play left in this event.
Check out the chip counts below and stay tuned as we play down to a winner!
