Bergren Busts! Lloyd Is Champion!
1 year agoThis tournament is over! With Sol Bergren's stack as short as it was, we knew it was just a matter of time before the rest of it went in the middle. On the last hand of the evening Lloyd raised from the button, knowing he would be forced to call should Bergren shove.
Shove Bergren did, and Lloyd made a somewhat crying call. A-4 for Bergren was in the lead against Lloyd's Q♠ 5♦. Bergren held that lead as the board ran T♣ 7♥ 6♠ K♥ but he was unable to dodge the Q♥ that landed on the river.
Sol Bergren is out in second place for $47,000 while David R. Lloyd takes first-place honors and the $91,200 that goes with them!
Stay tuned for the final-table recap and an interview with our champion!
Heads-Up Report
1 year agoThis heads-up match has been an entirely one-sided affair. Though they began near even in chips David Lloyd has absolutely dominated since it got down to two, turning from the tightish player we had seen up till now into a raising machine.
As we take a short break Lloyd has Sol Bergren outchipped by approximately 10-1. With the blinds and antes on the way up, to $8,000/$16,000 with a $2,000 ante, something has got to give.
Lloyd's climb to the top hasn't been particularly dramatic and we've been hard-pressed to find any truly pivotal hands. We've got to get back to the floor as this thing is sure to go one way or the other in the next few hands.
Matlock Disbarred (Third)
1 year agoThis entire final table has been playing at breakneck speed and three-handed play was no different. Just a few hands after the last bustage Darren Matlock raised to $40,000 from the button and got a call from David Lloyd in the small blind. Sol Bergren folded his big blind and the flop came down A♦ K♦ 5♥.
Both players checked and the 5♥ hit the turn. Lloyd cut out a stack and pushed $60,000 into the middle. Matlock thought for some time before pushing in for another $74,000. Lloyd, priced into the call, paid the difference and turned over K♥ J♣. He had Matlock's K♠ 8♣ crushed, and the T♦ on the river didn't change a thing.
Darren Matlock is out in third for $27,600.
Phillips Founders (Fourth)
1 year agoThe epic run of Mark Phillips has come to an end. He got aggressive one too many times and was unable to suck out to stay alive. Phillips limped from under the gun and it folded to David Lloyd, who checked in the big blind.
The flop came down K♦ Q♦ J♣ and Lloyd checked. Phillips shoved and Lloyd insta-called, turning over 9♣ T♣ for the flopped straight. Phillips shook his head and turned over pocket fours. The board finished J♠ 6♣ and that was that.
Mark Phillips is out in fourth and will take $20,400.
Cochrane Tom’d (Fifth)
1 year agoDanny Cochrane had been playing an aggressive game since we first started watching him, but it all caught up with him a moment ago. Sol Bergren raised from the button and Cochrane moved in for $73,000 more from the small blind.
The big blind folded and after a bit of mental arithmetic Bergren made the call. Sol saw his Q♠ T♣ was in great shape against Danny's Q♦ 2♣, and after the board ran 9♦ 6♣ 6♠ 7♦ A♦ it was all over.
Danny Cochrane is out in fifth for $16,600.
Bo Knows Busting (Sixth)
1 year agoBo Erichsson has been eliminated at the hands of the card-catching one-man wrecking crew also known as Mark Phillips. Erichsson was short and had open-shoved two hands previous to this. On his last hand he moved in for $108,000 and it was folded to Phillips in the small blind, who made the easy call with pocket queens.
Sol Bergren folded his big blind and we saw Erichsson was in a tough spot with A♣ 7♣. The board ran 9♦ 8♦ 2♠ 3♠ 8♣ and just like that Erichsson is out.
Bo Erichsson is gone in sixth and will take down $13,800.
Blinds Up; Six-Handed Play Continues
1 year agoBreak It Down!
1 year agoMatlock and the Case of the Missing Chips
1 year agoDarren Matlock has just taken the chip lead from David Lloyd as these final six players engage in a maddening game of musical chips, passing them around the table in bulk each and every hand.
We didn't see the whole thing but the money went in before the flop with pocket aces for Matlock and A-Q for Lloyd. The board improved neither hand and Matlock chips up to around $335,000.
Check out the chip count tab in a few moments for the updated counts.
Lloyd Doubles Through Phillips
1 year agoDavid Lloyd has been playing a disciplined, measured game since he first caught our attention and this last hand was no different. He limped his small blind and after Mark Phillips checked in the big, the flop came down Q♣ 8♠ 7♣.
Both players checked and after the turn brought the A♠ Lloyd fired at the pot. Phillips moved all-in and after a bit of thought Lloyd made the call. 9-T for Phillips needed a ton of help against Lloyd's 8♦ 7♦, but the 5♠ on the river wasn't it.
Lloyd doubles in a big way and Phillips kisses a huge chunk of his stack goodbye.
Phillips Doubles; Back in the Lead
1 year agoMark Phillips is nothing if not reckless which, as we just saw, sometimes works in his favor. A moment ago Bo Erichsson paid the price for acting on Phillips' aggressive table image. It began with Phillips opening from the cut-off and Bo calling in the big blind.
The flop came down J♠ 8♥ 5♣ and after a check from Erichsson, Phillips moved all-in. Erichsson immediately called and turned over Q♠ J♥, which he had every reason to believe would be good.
Phillips tabled A♦ J♣, however, and after the board finished out 9♥ 6♥ he was good for the double. Phillips is now back up over $300,000.
Suddes Suds’d (Seventh)
1 year agoMark Suddes is no more at this final table. His stack had fallen below the 10BB mark, and when it was folded to him in the small blind he shoved for around $60,000. David Lloyd sat in the big blind and made an easy call with A-Q.
Suddes was in trouble with Q-T and after the board was dealt, Lloyd's ace was enough to take the pot and send Suddes on his way.
Mark Suddes is out in seventh and will take $11,100.
Toke Smoked (Eighth)
1 year agoDenmark's Toke Nielsen has just been eliminated, caught making a bit of a move and failing to catch the cards he needed to stay alive. We didn't see the hand but Nielsen was nice to enough to fill us in as he waited to get paid.
Nielsen started his last hand with around $80,000 and shoved it in from the big blind over the top of an opening raise from the player on the button. Toke had K-5 and his opponent made the call with A-8. Since Nielsen was busted we can only assume the board did not help him out.
Toke Nielsen is out in eighth and will take $8,300 for his time here in the Caribbean.
No Rally for Riley (Ninth)
1 year agoWe have the first elimination of the day and it is the severely short-stacked Bob Riley. He came into the day on life support and when he found himself in the big blind facing an opening raise from Mark Phillips, he had no choice but to call.
Riley had 6-2 and saw he wasn't in the worst shape as Phillips tabled J♥ Q♦. The board ran A♦ Q♣ 7♣ 8♥ 3♠ and that was all she wrote for Mr. Riley.
Bob Riley is eliminated in ninth place, taking $5,500.
Bo Knows Doubling
1 year agoWe have our first noteworthy hand of the day - noteworthy both because it was a double-up and because Mark Phillips was unable to suck out. Bo Erichsson opened to $18,000 from middle position and it was folded to Phillips in the small blind.
Phillips moved all-in and he had Bo well covered. Erichsson made a quick call, turning over A♠ K♦. Phillips found himself in a bad spot with K♥ Q♦, and the K♣ 9♠ 6♦ 8♥ 6♥ board changed nothing. Erichsson doubles to around $140,000 while Phillips slips to the $300,000 mark.
