EPT London - Live Updates
Day 5 Live Updates
Over! Gustavson Victorious!
2 years agoJust a few hands into this heads-up match we have a champion! Aaron Gustavson has defeated current world champion Peter Eastgate to take down this year's PokerStars EPT London main event!
Eastgate four-bet shoved A-9 and got snapped off by Gustavson's A-Q. The best hand held up and just like that, it's all over.
Aaron Gustavson takes £850,000 for first place while Peter Eastgate takes £530,000 for runner-up.
That's it for us here in London. As always it's been a slice. Check back later for the feature news with words from our winner and runner-up.
Gustavson and the River Check-Raise
2 years agoOn the first hand of this heads-up match Aaron Gustavson has done some serious damage to Peter Eastgate's stack.
Eastgate opened from the button and got a call. The flop came Q♣ 5♠ 2♠ and Aaron check-called 370k. The turn was the K♣ and Gustavson check-called again, this time for 725,000.
The river was the 5♥ and Gustavson checked for the third and final time. Eastgate bet again, 1,135,000, but this time Gustavson check-raised to 3.3 million.
Eastgate clearly had a decision but after a long dwell he opted to fold. Advantage Gustavson.
Back from Dinner; Heads-Up!
2 years agoWe're back from our one-hour dinner break and the final two players are presently getting down to business. Aaron Gustavson holds a commanding lead at the moment but he's up against the reigning world champion of poker, Peter Eastgate.
We're here to guide you through this heads-up match to an eventual winner so stick with us for the conclusion of the PokerStars EPT6 London main event.
Senninger Out (3rd)
2 years agoNikolai Senninger was doing a good job all day of picking up chips but it all fell apart moments ago in a massive hand against Aaron Gustavson.
Nikolai opened from the button to 275,000 and Gustavson three-bet to 800,000 from the small blind. Nikolai called and the flop came down Q♥ 7♥ 3♦. Gustavson led for 1.14 million and Senninger called.
The turn was the 9♣ and Gustavson moved all-in. Senninger thought it over for a long time but eventually made the call.
Gustavson: Q♦ T♠
Senninger: 8♣ 8♥
Senninger was in terrible shape, drawing to the two remaining eights in the deck. The river was the T♣, however, meaning Nikolai's tournament was over.
He's out in third and takes £285,000.
Eastgate Fighting Back
2 years agoPeter Eastgate hasn't given up yet and he just took a few chips from chip leader Aaron Gustavson. Aaron opened to 240,000 from the button and Eastgate made it 795,000 from the small blind. Gustavson called and the flop came Q♣ J♠ 5♣ and both players checked.
Eastgate led for 825,000 and after a short dwell Gustavson folded.
Senninger Up; Eastgate Down
2 years agoNikolai Senninger opened to 275,000 from the button and Peter Eastgate announced raise from the big blind. He made it 795,000 and after a few moments Senninger made the call.
The flop hit the felt 8♥ 8♠ 2♣ and Eastgate fired 835,000. Senninger tanked for a long time before counting out the chips and making the call. The turn was the T♦ and Eastgate checked somewhat reluctantly.
Senninger bet out 775,000 and the action was back on the reigning world champion. After some thought Eastgate decided to fold. Senninger picks up a very healthy pot.
Gudvangen Not Gud Enough (4th)
2 years agoAfter doubling up Nikolai Senninger, Martin Gudvangen decided ace-three was good enough to commit his stack with.
Senninger proved to be his nemesis again making the obvious call with a dominating ace-queen.
After a board of blanks that included giving Senninger a flush draw to take away some of Gudvangen's outs, he busted fourth cashing £227,000.
Peter Eastgate still has the chip lead as we move into three-handed play.
Last Englishman Out (5th)
2 years agoWe've heard a lot of talk from the UK contingent here about a native taking down the main event here in London but it's not going to happen this year. Dominic Cullen was the last remaining Brit and he's just been eliminated.
He shoved 1.7 million with A♠ T♠ and got called by Peter Eastgate who showed down pocket eights.
An eight on the flop spelled disaster for Cullen and once the turn and river had made it official he was forced to get up and go. He's out in 5th and will take £173,000.
Senninger Flops Boat; Gets Paid
2 years agoNikolai Senninger has had a profitable few hands and now finds himself with close to 5 million. After the double we reported moments ago this hand with Martin Gudvangen developed.
Senninger opened to 250k from under the gun and Gudvangen called in the big blind. The flop came down K♣ K♥ Q♦ and Nikolai fired 280,000 after a check from his opponent. Gudvangen then check-raised to 735,000.
After a lot of thought Nikolai made the call and they both checked the 4♠ on the turn. The 5♣ came on the river and after Gudvangen checked Senninger moved all-in for 1,445,000.
Gudvangen thought it over and decided to call. Senninger showed pocket queens for the boat and Gudvangen is clearly shocked. Full house is good and Senninger takes it down.
German for Double
2 years agoNikolai Senninger has just doubled up at the expense of big-stack Martin Gudvangen. Gudvangen moved in from the small blind and Senninger called with A-8. Gudvangen had K-6 and couldn't catch a piece of the board.
Senninger was all-in for 1,235,000 and he's now on over 2.5 million.
Milhomen Mucked (6th)
2 years agoIn what has to be deemed a shocking turn of events, Rui Milhomen has just gone out sixth.
Milhomen raised Peter Eastgate's blind up to 230k pre-flop with eights and after a time in the tank, Eastgate came out shoving.
Left with a decision for all his chips Milhomen rolled the dice and made the call.
Eastgate showed A♦ T♠ and the less-than classic race was on.
The K♥ Q♦ 6♥ flop had Milhomen looking good for the double and after the 4♠ turn the odds got even better.
However, the dealer peeled off the T♥ on the river and suddenly Milhomen was done.
As he heads to the cage to collect £124,000 in sixth-place money, Eastgate has jumped into the lead five-handed sitting on 7.3 million in chips.
Wu Tanged (7th)
2 years agoA steady decline throughout the day suddenly left PokerStars Team Asia pro Raymond Wu with just 650k in chips and when he looked down at Q♣ T♥ he decided it was time to ship it in.
Chip leader Aaron Gustavson had no problem making the call with K♣ 6♣ and Wu was in desperate need of a little help from the Poker Gods above to survive.
The K♥ 8♥ 5♦ flop was not exactly what he was looking for and after a 5♣ turn, Wu was left drawing dead.
Out 7th, Wu will grab £87,000 for his efforts and the PokerStars EPT London is now down to just six players.
Gudvangen Cashes in Blind on Blind
2 years agoRui Milhomens opened from the small blind to 230k and Martin Gudvangen defended from the big blind. The flop came T♣ 5♠ 2♣ and both players checked.
The turn was the 7♥ and after Milhomens checked, Gustavson bet 305,000. Rui made the call and the K♣ came on the river. Milhomens check-called again, this time 620,000, and was shown T-8 for second pair.
Second pair's good and Gudvangen takes down a big one.
World Champion Wins Pot
2 years agoThe reigning world champion, Peter Eastgate, took down a big pot just before this past break. It began with Eastgate opening to 190k and Aaron Gustavson calling. The flop came A♣ 7♥ 3♣ and both players checked.
The 6♥ hit the turn and after a check from Gustavson, Eastgate fired 200k. The call was made and the 8♥ came on the river.
Gustavson checked and Peter fired 400,000. Gustavson check-raised to 1 million and Eastgate went into the tank. After a bit of thought he made the call and tabled pocket eights for the rivered set. Gustavson's cards went in the muck and Eastgate takes a big pot.
Shake Down, Break Down, You're Busted
2 years agoDominic Cullen just put his tournament life on the line here in London, but managed to escape unscathed.
Following a Rui Milhomens standard raise, he shipped it in.
Milhomens pondered the 1.5 million chip call, but decided against it.
Cullen and Nikolai Sennikger are still a bit on the short side and while he's dropped from the lofty 7 million chip mark, Aaron Gustavson remains the man in charge.
Bennani Benihana'd (8th)
2 years agoIt didn't take a rocket surgeon to predict that Karim Bennani would be our first one out, since he had let himself get blinded down to next to nothing. He put his last few chips in and got auto-called by Rui Milhomens in the big blind.
K♠ T♠ for Milhomens was in great shape against Bennani's K♦ 3♥. The flop gave Karim a trey but it also had two spades. The turn was a spade and Bennani was drawing dead.
He's out in 8th place and will take £50,100.
Gudvangen Gaining Momentum
2 years agoMartin Gudvangen just took down a big pot, relieving Aaron Gustavson of a significant number of chips in the process.
Gudvangen opened and Gustavson called in the big blind. The flop came down Q♥ J♣ 8♣ and they both checked. Gustavson check-called 165k on the 5♠ turn and 415k on the 7♦ river.
Gudvangen showed Q-5 for two pair which was good for the 1.5 million pot.
Bennani's Got Problems
2 years agoAggression from Eastgate
2 years agoPeter Eastgate has come out of the gate at a gallop and just took down another sizable pot. It was opened by Aaron Gustavson and called by Eastgate.
The flop rolled out A-8-4 with two hearts and Gustavson bet out 170,000. Eastgate put in a big raise to 590,000 and after some thought Gustavson let it go.
Let's Get It Started, Yeah!
2 years agoWe've had one hand, one player all in and some fireworks already here at the PokerStars EPT London final.
The cards had just hit the air when a very nervous looking Dominic Cullen cut out a 140k raise and pushed it across the line.
Peter Eastgate and Rui Milhomens both made the call taking them all three-handed to an A♣ 6♥ 3♣ flop.
Cullen checked leaving Eastgate to take the lead with a 180k bet.
However, Milhomens had bigger plans, shoving all in.
Cullen could not have mucked faster and after a brief pause to thing, Eastgate joined him.
The EPT London Final
2 years agoIt's final table time at PokerStars EPT London and there's palpable buzz in the air here at the Hilton Metropole.
With 730 starters, EPT London smashed the record for the largest poker tournament ever held in the UK, set a little over a week ago at the WSOPE's £1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event.
But now, just eight players remain in the hunt for the massive £850,000 first-place prize.
23-year-old Las Vegas pro Aaron Gustavson comes in with a huge chip lead holding twice as many chips as the marquee name in the final - 2008 WSOP main event champ Peter Eastgate.
Norway's Martin Gudvangen is just a few chips shy of Eastgate with 19-year-old German Nikolai Senninger, Nottingham's Dominic Cullen and PokerStars Team Asia pro Raymond Wu right behind them.
Portugal's Rui Milhomens and Morocco's Karim Bennani are the shortest stacks, but as we all know, anything can happen at the final table.
The cards will hit the air just moments from now and PL.com is on the scene to provide you with comprehensive coverage from start to finish.
Get up, stand up! The PokerStars EPT London final table starts now!
