It's Over! Phillips is an EPT Champion!

Carter Phillips
Instant millionaire.

After trading small pots back and forth for the last series of hands Carter Phillips has won this event in one massive hand!

Carter opened from the button and Goodwin flatted from the big blind. The flop came down K 5 4 and Phillips cbet 310,000. Goodwin announced raise and made it 1,160,000. Phillips cut out the chips and thought for a moment before pushing them across the line.

The turn was the Q and Goodwin paused for just a beat before announcing all-in. It was a huge overbet and when it was counted down we saw it totaled 4,295,000!

Phillips was stunned and clearly had a decision to make. He shook his head and went way into the tank. He tanked and tanked and tanked some more but eventually he came out with a decision, to call.

Both players were on their feet as we struggled to see the cards.

Goodwin: A T

Phillips: K J

Phillips chose correctly and was just one card away from his first major win. The river cooperated with the young American, coming the 5, and the two players shook hands over the table.

Marc Goodwin pockets €530,000 for second while Carter Phillips takes €850,000, the trophy and a seat to this season's EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

It's always great to see a deserving champion and Carter Phillips is certainly that. He played brilliantly from Day 1 to the last hand and earns himself the rarely awarded PL.com Attaboy!

And with that we're done in Barcelona. We are not, however, done in Europe. We'll be killing the next week on the Spanish coast before rocking it over to London for the WSOPE and EPT London. Join us then if you know what's good for you.

And if you really want some more from Barcelona, check out what the newly crowned champ told PokerListings right here.

Blinds Up; No Action

Our two heads-up players are back and the blinds have been bumped to 60k/120k. Things have slowed down noticeably though as we watch them trading the blinds back and forth.

Goodwin took down the largest pot since returning, opening from the button and winning with a standard cbet on an ace-high flop.

Seems like the favorite.

Goodwin opened from the button and Phillips three-bet from the big blind. Goodwin called and the flop came K 9 8. Phillips followed up with an 800k cbet which Goodwin called.

The turn was the 9 and they both checked. The river was the 6 and Phillips paused before slowly pushing out 1.4 million. Goodwin seemed to freeze, looking like he wanted to call. After some more though, however, he opted to fold and Phillips takes back the chip lead.

It's about 9 million to 5 million now.

He's Back!

Marc Goodwin
Good one.

Marc Goodwin just got right back in this thing.

After a standard pre-flop raise from Carter Phillips and a call from Goodwin, the two were treated to a T 6 4 flop.

Goodwin checked, Phillips bet and the savvy veteran pulled the old check-raise out of his bag making it 975k total.

Phillips made the call and when the A turn fell, Goodwin shoved. Phillips called instantly, but his 6 2 was no match for Goodwin's T 4.

After the 8 river came down, Goodwin rode his two pair to a massive double that has pretty much drawn the two even in chips.

Phillips heading for victory.

Marc Goodwin opened from the button and Phillips three-bet from the big blind. The flop came K J 3 and Phillips led out for 875,000. Goodwin called and the turn was the 3.

They both checked it and the K hit the river. They both checked again and Phillips turned over pocket eights which were good for the over 3 million pot.

Phillips is now on almost 11 million to Goodwin's 3.5 million.

Carter Phillips
Running good and playing good.

The deck certainly seems to be on Carter Phillips side at the moment as he just took down a big pot thanks to the turn and the river.

Phillips opened to 250k from the button and Goodwin called. The flop came A Q 4 and Phillips cbet 275k. Goodwin called and they both checked the 7 on the turn.

When the 7 hit the river Goodwin checked and Phillips bet 500,000. Goodwin didn't take long to call but could only shake his head when Phillips turned over J-7.

Phillips is now on 9,695,000 while Goodwin has 4,680,000.

Unbluffable.

Marc Goodwin's lead didn't last very long.

Carter Phillips just picked him off snatching a 2 million chip pot with naught but king-high to move back into the chip lead.

Phillips has about eight million chips to Goodwin's six million.

Goodwin good for the win?

Marc Goodwin
Gots chips!

Marc Goodwin just moved into the chip lead after what appeared to be a rather strange move by Carter Phillips.

On a board reading K Q J 2, the two got into a bit of a raising war with Phillips leading out for 325k, Goodwin raising it up to 775k and Carter Phillips re-raising 1,050,000 more.

"Do you want me to call?" asked Goodwin, getting nothing but silence from the American.

Eventually he did call and the river brought the J.

Both players checked and Phillips insta-mucked, leaving Goodwin to take the massive pot and the chip lead holding just king-nine.

Back from Dinner; Pot for Goodwin

Marc Goodwin
Plenty of reason to smile.

The dinner break is over and on one of the first hands back Marc Goodwin has taken down a sizeable pot.

Goodwin limped from the button and Phillips made it 375,000 from the big blind. Goodwin called and the flop came K 8 6. Phillips led out for 400,000 and Goodwin called. The 3 turn slowed Phillips down and both players checked it through.

The 3 hit the river and after another check from Phillips Goodwin bet 400,000. Phillips tanked for a moment before dumping his hand.

Staring down destiny.

The heads-up match between Marc Goodwin and Carter Phillips has started slowly, with Phillips picking up the majority of the pots thus far.

He now sits with a 2:1 chip lead holding 9,720,000 in chips compared to Goodwin's 4,665,000.

However, the conclusion of EPT Barcelona will have to wait at least 60 minutes as the players have headed off on a dinner break.

Santiago Terrazas
Adiós muchachos.

A hush has come over the Spanish crowd here in Barcelona now that Santiago Terrazas' flame has finally been put out.

He shoved for 1.4 million in chips facing a 400k flop bet from Marc Goodwin on a K 4 2 board and Goodwin made the call showing K J.

Terrazas was on a flush draw with 8 5 and picked up a few more outs on the 5 turn.

However, when the 4 river fell, so did any chance of the EPT Barcelona title staying here in Spain.

Terrazas takes third and €300,000 while Goodwin goes into heads up trailing American Carter Phillips by about 2 million in chips.

Mihai mucked.

We're down to three handed in Barcelona now after a massive suck-out by Marc Goodwin.

Mihai Manole got it all in pre flop with A T dominating Goodwin's A 9, but by the turn, with the board reading K 5 2 K, Goodwin had picked up a number of outs to chop and a bunch to win.

Sure enough, the 4 river made Goodwin a flush and a disappointed Manole went out fourth cashing €250,000.

Probably going to win.

Carter Phillips is now up over 8 million chips, taking a big one from Marc Goodwin moments ago.

Goodwin opened the pot and got a call from Phillips. Phillips check-calls the K 8 2 flop and does the same on the 7 turn. The pot was over 2 million by this point and the two check it down.

Phillips shows J-8 for two pair and Goodwin looks a little shocked.

Smith sent packing.

Asa Smith is finally done. He shoved his last 620k chips from the small blind with A 3 and got the call from Carter Phillips in the big blind on A 5.

A chop looked likely, but it was not to be as the 6 5 2 flop gave Phillips a pair.

Needing a four for a straight or running threes, the 7 turn and 9 river were a disappointment for Smith as he heads out fifth cashing €200,000.

Down to four players, Carter Phillips' lead is beginning to look insurmountable.

Mihai Manole has been on the edge of elimination numerous times today and we just saw him survive another one.

Asa Smith may have been down, but he's not out.

He shoved K T and got looked up by Carter Phillips holding a pair of fives.

The 3 turn completed the flush and when the Q river failed to pair the board, Smith had doubled up.

Si Señor.

Once again, the Spanish crowd has come to life here in Barcelona with Santiago Terrazas doubling up to over 2.6 million in chips.

He raised, Asa Smith re-raised and Terrazas shoved.

A priced in Smith made the call with 5 5 as Terrazas slammed 8 8 down on the felt. The flop came 8 6 3 and after the J turn, Smith was drawing dead.

The crowd roared as the massive pot was shipped to Terrazas and Smith is now down to around 400k and is the shortest stack at the table.

Toni toned.

We're down to five here in Barcelona with the elimination of Finland's Toni Ojala. It was a massive hand, and an interesting one, with another monstrous pot shipped to Carter Phillips.

Mihai Manole opened and got flatted by Phillips on the button. Ojala was in the blinds and three-bet, putting the action back on Mihai. The Romanian opted to get out of the way but Phillips threw everyone for a loop by putting in a fourth bet!

Action was back on Ojala and it was clear he wasn't sure about where he stood. After some deliberation he announced all-in and Phillips beat him into the pot by a mile.

A A for Phillips had Ojala's Q Q in a bad spot. The board ran T 5 3 J 7 and Ojala is out. He takes 6th place and €160,000.

Matt no longer welcome.

Matt Lapossie has been eliminated, the victim of the same reckless aggression that got him to the final table to begin with.

Lapossie opened to 140,000 and got three-bet by Toni Ojala to 310,000 from the small blind. Lapossie then four-bet shoved for another 650,000 or so and got snap-called by the Finn.

It was obvious from his expression that Lapossie had been making a move. J 4 for Lapossie was absolutely crushed by Ojala's Q Q.

The board gave Lapossie made matters worse, bringing a queen and ending the Canadian's run here in Barcelona.

Here Comes The Spaniard

Crowd favorite.

The Spanish crowd just got very loud again here in Barcelona.

Spaniard Santiago Terrazas shoved short and when it got through, he boldly showed 9-8 offsuit.

Then suddenly he got active, raising the very next hand and picking up the blinds.

A hand later, he was at it again, putting in half his stack pre-flop before Canadian Matt Lapossie bet enough to put him in.

Terrazas made the call for his tournament life and his A K was miles ahead of Lapossie's A 9 bringing a massive roar from the Spanish crowd when it held.

He's now up over 1.5 million in chips as Lapossie falls below that mark.

Greece's Georgios Kapalas has just become the first casualty here at the final table.

He shoved almost 800k and after counting out the chips and holding them aloft for a few minutes, Marc Goodwin made the call.

Kapalas held K Q and Goodwin looked good with A T until the 7 6 2 flop gave Kapalas a flush draw.

The A turn made Goodwin a pair, stealing a few out for Kapalas, and when the 8 river was not a club, he bowed out eighth cashing €80,000.

We've had just two hands so far and both were massive.

Santiago Terrazas raised, Asa Smith reraised and before anyone knew it, Toni Ojala shoved for his last 750k.

Terrazas folded, but needing less than 300k to make the call, Smith obliged.

It was a dream for Ojala, holding aces against Smith's A Q and they held to put the Finn back in contention for the EPT Barcelona crown.

A hand later, Mihai Manole did the same, getting extremely lucky with A K against Carter Phillips' unsuited big slick.

One diamond fell on the flop and Manole went runner-runner to snatch a double-up from the jaws of a chop.

The Final!

In it to win it.

We're just moments away from the start of the final table at PokerStars EPT Barcelona and there's a palpable excitement in the air.

A crowd of rather boisterous Spaniards has filled the stands around the TV set, no doubt here to cheer on fellow Countryman Santiago Terrazas, but it's a 20-year-old American who leads the final eight coming in.

With his methodical and aggressive style of play, Carter Phillips has amassed 4.4 million in chips so far and has no plans to slow down.

The UK's Marc Goodwin, who turned countless GUKPT cashes into a spot at the top of every European ranking system that matters in 2008, will come in second in chips and appears to have the experience to put up a fight.

The rest of the group, all making their first EPT final table appearance, includes Canadian Matt Lapossie, the UK's Asa Smith, Greece's Georgios Kapalas, Finn Toni Ojala and Romanian Mihai Manole.

Stick with us Poker fans; all the ups and downs, checks and raises, bustouts and double-ups from the final table of PokerStars EPT Barcelona are coming up next!
