Sabat Wins!

Edward Sabat
The champ!

Edward Sabat has won the PokerStars APPT Season 2 Macau Main Event!

Charles Chua shoved on a Q 6 6 flop holding the Q 3 and Sabat made the call with K J.

Eddie needed a diamond or a king to win and while the A turn was neither, the 2 was, well, a diamond.

Chua grabs $291,761 for second while Sabat takes the glory of the APPT title, the $453,851 and if he’s really lucky, a PL.com winner interview.

Stay tuned for that!

Chua's Turn!

Charles Chua
Duck, duck, goose.

Our two heads up combatants get it in on a 2 5 8 9 board with Edward Sabat in the lead holding J 9 to Charles Chua’s Q 2.

Chua needs a heart, queen or deuce to avoid Eddie taking the title and sure enough, the 2 falls on the river and both players end up with the same amount of chips.

Back to the drawing board folks.

Sabat Strikes First!

Edward Sabat
The ed man, coo-coo-coo-choo.

The first massive hand of heads up has gone to Edward Sabat!

The money went in on a Q 10 5 flop with Sabat holding A Q and Charles Chua the J 8.

Charles needs a nine to become the next APPT Macau champ and grab the $450k+, but the 6 7 turn and river combo means the lead has switches hands.

Eddie now has $3.6 to to Chucky’s $1.8 million as heads up continues.

Shazam!

Diwei Huang is done. He shoved four hands in a row until he finally got looked up by Edward Sabat with A K.

With just A 4 himself, Huang looked dominated and just about defeated.

The flop fell J 7 5 and he was still in big trouble. The turn came the 7 and there were some chop possibilities, but the 10 river wasn’t one of them.

Huang steps out third cashing $153,984 and Sabat will go heads up with Charles Chua for the title.

Right now, Sabat has $2 million to Chua’s $3 million and it’s about to get serious here in Macau!

Very aggressive.

Charles Chua continues to pad his lead here in Macau with a series of aggressive plays. If he’s not betting the flop he’s betting after it, winning pot after pot without showdown.

He’s now on over $3 million leaving Edward Sabat with $1.5 million and a short stacked Diwei Huang needing to make a move on $650k.

Diwei Huang
Real life, real drama.

We had some real drama here moments ago when Diwei Huang shoved on an A K 6 flop and Charles Chua made the call.

Huang held A 9 and looked to double against Chua’s A 8, but the nature of the board left all kinds of possibilities, including Huang busting if an eight spiked.

The turn came the 10 and it looked like the chop was certain. It certainly was when the 10 fell on the river.

Skill game.

Charles Chua, who looks a little more sober than before, just rivered his way back into the mix here.

Diwei Huang limped the small blind and Chua checked, sending them heads up to the A 6 4 flop.

Huang led out for $40,000 and Chua made the call bringing out the J turn. Huang did not slow down, betting $80k, but Chua was not going anywhere, raising it up to $230k.

Huang made the call and the river came the K, which both players checked. It turned out Chucky’s big turn bet was a bluff as he showed the K 5 for the rivered top pair. Huang could only show 10 4 for the flopped bottom pair.

With that pot all three are about even on close to $1.8 million each.

Ship it!

On the first hand of three-handed play, Eddie Sabat has fought his way back into this thing.

After Charles Chua folded the button, Sabat pumped it up to $145,000 from the small blind. Diwei Huang made the call and Sabat continuation bet the Q J J flop, making it $220k.

Huang flatted and after the K turned, Sabat checked. Huang took the lead betting $150,000 and this time Eddie flatted.

The river was another king (the K to be precise) and Sabat bet a whopping $500k. Huang called and Sabat screamed “yes,” felting K Q to rake the massive pot and move within $100,000 of Huang’s lead.

Rosen Bagged (4th)

Mikael Rosen
Rosen Ripped!

A drunken Charles Chua doubled up to stay alive getting it in bad against Mikael Rosen and sucking out on the turn.

The money went in pre-flop with Chua showing just J 9 against Rosen’s A K, but when Chucky flopped the open ender after the Q 10 7 fell, and turned the 8 to complete it, Rosen was left hoping for a jack to re-suck.

The A was obviously not a jack and while Chua doubled Rosen was crippled.

He got it in real short the next hand with J 10 against Chucky’s K 5 and looked like a shoe in to double right back after the AdQ 3 flop and 8 turn.

But the A river bricked and Rosen stepped out fourth ($108,600).

Diwei Huang keeps beating up on Edward Sabat and building a bigger lead on the field in the process.

First he made trip threes against him, somehow getting the young Sabat to pay him off. Then he pushed Sabat of another big pot on the turn with four clubs showing.

As it stands, Huang now has $2.7 million and Sabat $1.2 million. Charles Chua and Mikael Rosen are on around $725k each.

Sabat had two overs with the K 9 against the Dane’s 4 4, but it took only seconds for Eddie to take the lead. The nine was the window card on the Q Q 9 flop and after the K turn and 6 river, Drivsholm headed to the rail.

We have a new chip leader!

Edward Sabat and Diwei Huang get into it pre-flop and all of Huang’s money ends up in the middle.

Sabat makes the call and the biggest pot of the tournament, more than $2 million in chips, hangs in the balance.

It’s K K for Huang in the lead over Sabat’s AcJ and after the Kh8 4 flop, it looks like he’s got the lead for good.

Huang can only smile when the Q turns giving Sabat the four tens in the deck as outs, but the A river ensures he will double up to over $2 million and send Sabat back down to around $1 million.

Charles Chua chugged half a bottle of whisky at the dinner break then came back absolutely tanked and open shoved from the button with pocket sixes.

After way too long in the tank, considering Chua's condition, Jeppe Drivsholm looked him up with KcJ and the race was on.

The 5 4 3 gave Chua lots of outs he wouldn’t need when the 9 turned and the Q rivered keeping his sixes ahead.

The absolutely hammered Chua now has about the same amount of chips as Drivsholm, with both around $500k.

Sabat Leads!

Edward Sabat
Stacked again.

Edward Sabat has jumped into the lead now sitting on $1.6 million after taking a huge pot off Mikael Rosen.

The action began with a $75k raise from Rosen that Sabat flatted from the small blind. Sabat checked the K 4 3 flop allowing Rosen to make a $110k continuation bet.

The turn brought the 6 and another Sabat check before Rosen slowly pushed out a $250,000 bet. Sabat made the quick call and after the Q river fell and both players checked, Sabat showed a pair of sevens.

Rosen mucked and Sabat had grabbed the lead.

Macanese poker God!

The local boy could not make good as Kuok Wai Will Cheong has been knocked out sixth.

After a bit of the usual raising and re-raising pre-flop, Cheong pushed his short stack all in and Edward Sabat made the call.

It’s K Q for Sabat in good shape to rail Cheong and his K 9.

The flop brought the J J 10 and Cheong picked up a few outs, none of which included the 5 turn or A river.

Leaving sixth, Cheong grabs $56,730 and is now the most profitable Macanese tournament poker player in the history of the game - apparently that's all it takes.

Big slick slaughtered.

Tian Chen has been eliminated in seventh place after an epic suck out by Eddie Sabat.

After Sabat shoved into him from the small blind, Chen called all in ahead with A K against Sabat‘s Q 7.

While the flop came A K 3 giving Chen top two pair, the back door spade draw was alive.

The 2 turn made it seem plausible and, amazingly, the J river made it happen, sending  a shocked Chen’s chips into a happy Sabat’s stack.

Chen grabs $42,143 for seventh and now there are six in Macau.

Sabat got it in on a K 10 6 flop with Q J, but was in huge trouble against Charles Chua’s 10 6 two-pair.

Mikael Rosen is closing in on the chip lead now after taking a huge chunk out of Charles Chua’s stack.

The action in the hand began quietly enough with a $55k Rosen raise under the gun and calls from both and Diwei Huang and Chua, but there were some real fireworks to come on the K J 3 flop.

First Rosen bet out $105,000. Huang made the call, but not Chua, he decided to take a real shot at it, making it $300k more. Rosen took his time about it, but came in shoving for an additional $338k. Huang stepped out of the way and Chua went deep into the tank.

Twice is nice.

Mikael Rosen has doubled yet again, crippling Tian Chen in the process. Rosen opened the pot with a standard raise from middle position only to see Chen make it a whopping $200k more from the big blind.

A call would pretty much commit Rosen, so he decided to shove. Chen made the rather quick call and he may be regretting that now because it turned out his pair of jacks were in big trouble against Rosen’s pocket aces.

The flop came 9 8 6 and the 10 turn gave Chen an open ender. But the 2 river was enough to hand Rosen the $860k+ pot and leave Chen with just a little over $200k.

The Rosen one.

Mikael Rosen just put his tournament life on the line, shoving into an Edward Sabat raise with just J K.

Eddie thought for a long while looking down at K Q and eventually made the $200k+ call.

"Yes," he screamed, when his dominating position was revealed, a cheer only eclipsed by the grown of the crowd when the J 6 5 flop put Rosen ahead.

The big boss again!

Edward Sabat just lost a massive pot to Diwei Huang, vaulting Huang into a comfortable chip lead and sending Sabat back to the middle of the pack.

The hand started with a Tian Chen limp under the gun and four callers. The A 8 4 flop was checked to Chen and he bet $40k. Huang and Sabat called and the 2 turn was shown.

Sabat bet $20k and after Chen flatted, Huang pumped it up to $120,000. This time it was Sabat doing the flatting and Chen doing the folding. The river brought the 5 and Sabat min-bet allowing Huang to come way over the top for $250,000 total.

Sabat stood up and smiled, thinking a long time before cutting out the chips from his stack and making the call. Huang showed A 3 for the rivered straight crushing Eddie's A J.

After yet another Edward Sabat raise, someone finally decided to play back at him and Jeppe Drivsholm is glad he did.

It was a standard raise pre-flop and Drivsholm came over the top for another $40k. Sabat made the call and the 8 8 7 flop was revealed. Both players checked, but after the 4 turn, Drivsholm took a stab at it, betting $65k.

Sabat called, but after the Dane checked the 3 river, he took his own shot at the pot, betting $60k.

Drivsholm thought for a moment before making the call and Sabat’s cards hit the muck before anything was shown, shipping the pot Drivsholm's way.

It's there for the taking.

The players have headed off on a 15-minute break giving us the opportunity to tell you our impression of the final table so far.

Play has been extremely tight compared to the early and late stages of this event and only one player has emerged as any kind of aggressor - Jeppe Drivsholm.

In fact, he’s moved up to second in chips behind Diwei Huang, who is literally sitting with the same amount of chips he started with. Edward Sabat now sits in third and looks a little gun shy to tell the truth.

It would seem that if someone wants this title it’s there for the taking, but they’re going to have to go through Drivsholm to get there.

Sim will grab $22,692 for the ninth place finish and we’re down to eight here in Macau.

King Abrahams

Javed Abrahams
Kings crowned.

A very short stacked Javed Abarahams is back in the game after doubling through chip leader Diwei Huang.

Javed open the pot  with a raise on the button, but after Diwei re-raised he shoved and showed K K.

Diwei made the call anyway looking to pick him off with A 9.

The 6 J J flop kept the kings ahead and the 6 turn didn’t turn that around.

When the Q river fell Abarahams had doubled up and now has it up close to $400k -  gift from the chip leader.

Tight!

Mikael Rosen
No fear!

Play is awfully tight to begin this final table here in Macau.

In fact, we’ve seen just one flop following an Edward Sabat $30,000 pre flop raise. Mikael Rosen and Diwei Huang called and after the A 3 4 fell, Sabat continuation bet, making it $20k.

Rosen then made it $65k and took it down when both the chip leaders folded.
