Liv Boeree wins Ladbrokes ELC
By Sarah Polson
Last weekend some of the top European ladies in the poker realm came together to play in the Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship.
In its third year, the ELC saw 51 female players head to London to partake in the event. At stake was a $100,000 prize pool guaranteed by Ladbrokes Poker and a top prize of $30,000.
Taking home that top prize this year was Liv Boeree. Originally from Kent, Boeree has a degree in physics with astrophysics from the University of Manchester.
After getting her degree, Boeree moved to London in 2005, and was selected for a reality TV show that took five complete beginners and trained them to play poker.
While the show was filming, Boeree headed to the Gutshot Club in London to try her hand at a real poker tournament. She beat 124 other runners to win the first tournament she'd ever entered. Since then she has had numerous successes both live and online, and Annie Duke has taken her on as a student of the game.
Boeree also uses her poker talents as a television presenter and writes a regular column about the game.
All of her skills came together last weekend to beat some of Europe's toughest poker-playing women. Among the playing field were World Series of Poker Europe winner Annette Obrestad and last year's ECL winner Jackie Meecham.
Some of the other notable players included Bev Pace, Louise Duffy, Katherine Hartree and Shelly Rubenstein.
In the end, the $100,000 prize pool was divvied out to the 10 players who made the final table. The final-table results were:
| Place | Name | Prize |
| 1st | Liv Boeree | $30,000 |
| 2nd | Lenna Martyak | $20,000 |
| 3rd | Shelley Rubenstein | $16,000 |
| 4th | Lise Frandsen | $12,000 |
| 5th | Jacqui Terry | $10,000 |
| 6th | Karen Muir | $6,000 |
| 7th | Bev Pace | $4,000 |
| 8th | Karen Holland | $2,000 |
| 9th | Cheryl Alden | $2,000 |
| 10th | Michelle Orpe | $2,000 |
The event was filmed at the London Studios and will be broadcast in six, one-hour shows during the late summer on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.
